Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Lyon on a four-and-a-half year deal. The 24-year-old officially becomes Eddie Howe’s third signing of the winter window.
?? ????? ??
Newcastle United are thrilled to announce the signing of Bruno Guimarães from Olympique Lyonnais on a four-and-a-half year deal.
Bem vindo, @brunoog97!
— Newcastle United FC (@NUFC) January 30, 2022
Bruno will wear the number 39 shirt, which was the number of the taxi cab his father drove in his native Brazil. The midfielder represents a massive coup for Newcastle in the notoriously difficult winter window.
He is currently on international duty with Brazil and will remain so until later next week. Guimaraes will get to meet his new teammate Miguel Almiron as Brazil have a World Cup qualifier against Paraguay on Tuesday.
Here is what head coach Eddie Howe had to say about his new playmaker:
“Bruno is a hugely exciting talent and has been one of our primary targets so I’m delighted to secure him. He strengthens the group immediately ready for the challenge ahead.
“He has been one of the standout performers in France and is a full international for Brazil so I have no doubt our supporters will really enjoy watching him.
“We look forward to welcoming him to the club on his return from international duty.”
He looks fantastic in the black and white shirt of Newcastle United. Welcome aboard Bruno!.
Looking good, @brunoog97! ??

Comment #121Given how difficult January window is and factoring in our unique situation in that window there can’t be a Toon fan not satisfied with the 3 definites and i expected incoming with possibly more tomorrow
We have paid over odds on some deals but if they are a big part of our success in staying up then that will be forgotten come May
Despite a good few worrying even up to last week it is evident that owners have had a plan throughout and have stuck to it but been flexible when it became necessary
Don’t know much about Bruno but if what i have read on here and elsewhere is accurate he will be pivotal in helping a leaky back 4 as much as new CB’s
I’m not going to get greedy although would like more in as per rumours
Unlike most windows I am guessing that tomoorow will be a better final day than we’ve had ever – both incoming and outgoing still to be resolved
For once SKY might need 2 reporters up here
Oh Happy Birthday Martoon

Longstaff or Lascelles? Longstaff is defensive ok when playing, always see him putting in a challenge. Think most criticize his attacking contribution. Stats is quite a good judge if you compare how their team plays.

I wasn’t expecting anyone…I just don’t think he’s an improvement on anything we have.
Brighton have a much better midfield unit than we do, and a much better defence unit than we do who obviously play well as a unit, but on an individual basis he’s no better than anything we have and the defensive qualities of Brightons midfield are obviously better than ours and have protected their back four much better than our midfield have protected ours.

I’ve always had Lobby’s corner and defended him on here, I know there is a player there and hopefully he can fulfil it.

Bringing him in over nobody might be the difference between staying up and going down. If he’s not as good as Clark then Clark will get his place back and you’ll have your preferred back four in place.

A better DM, so less defending needed to do. Do you agree? Then why Dan Burn did more tackles and intercept more? It’s because he never miss them. Hence lesser goals conceded.

Just to clarify that I wasn’t having a dig at you in my post this morning
I’m aware of the background to the slapping ritual and I actually thought it was a good bit of craic. I just mentioned it today to cheekily fit the narrative of the rhyme.
Not sure about the Bard/Betty bit mind?!

That back four is not my preferred…my preferred is Trippier, Fede, Schar, Lewis.
My point is I don’t believe Burns is better than Clark, and Clark doesn’t even get a game in my preferred back four but is adequate cover.
So now we have Lascelles and Clark and Burn as adequate cover for centre half, and we also have Manquillo who can cover at left and right back and Dummett at left sided centre half and left back when he’s fitter.
So what’s the point of Burn???

I think he’s definitely capable as shown when more forward. Huge few months for him and others as now it’s time to show what they can do or they will be moved on for better.

Fed and Lewis are injured, we are one more injury from a CB crisis. The window closes tomorrow. I think it’s a great signing. You obviously don’t, I think we have reached that point where we should agree to disagree.

Comment #142Man Utd are missing a trick if they let Henderson go. De Gea is supposedly on £350,000 a week. Roy Keane has him bang to rights (imo) as extremely overrated. De Gea can make simple saves look acrobatic — but a lot of it is theatre.
I wonder if they are playing De Gea partly because they cannot deal with the idea of having a keeper with those wages on the bench. I would take Henderson over De Gea without blinking.
The Pogba situation looks symbolic of what’s going on at Man Utd. His agent has been pimping him out to other clubs for years now. Not sure why Man Utd have allowed that Pogba circus to carry on for so long. Alex Ferguson wouldn’t have put up with it. Ferguson called Pogba’s agent a s*** bag a few years back… but ultimately, if Pogba had any respect for the club, he would tell his agent to can it.
Obviously, Pogba thinks he is bigger than Man Utd. And Man Utd are so rudderless, they are happy to let him continue undermining the club. It wouldn’t surprise me if Man Utd actually give Pogba a new contract, and the merry-go-round starts again 6 months down the line.
Without getting too far ahead of myself, we really should be aiming to take Man Utd’s position in the top 4 in future. They have long-standing problems that are not going to change any time soon.

Excellent signing. A player that’s a few notches up on the usual (or past) squad recruitment.
Can’t wait for the next few league games. (And maybe a few other signings)
Hope is brilliant!

But the Shelvey master class as well as the team performing much better on all levels got us the result.

Comment #147Burn is better than Clark. The rest of our centre backs are always injured or technically garbage. Burn is neither of these. Plus can fill in at Left Back if need be. An astute signing at this time. Not better than Clark, howey man, really. Lower league champ centre half is Clark. Woeful footballer

How many times you seen Burn play to come to that conclusion.
How many goals has Burn scored in the last 5 years
How many times has he played in the Prem as a centre half.
How many Caps has Burn got?
Where’s the data that helps you come to that conclusion?

Comment #153A lot of stats are pish and only representative of one action taking place.
For example, aerial duels won. That just represents the fact you won a header in a duel with an opposing player. It doesn’t cater for where the ball ends up after the action. Theoretically you could win an aerial duel and score an own goal 😆
Some stats are quite factual because they’re undisputable as, mins played, distance run to name a couple.
Not a fan of stats in general.

Drawing conclusions from stats is not the way to define a player.
Have you seen him play?
Sorry…It’s only my opinion but I just don’t rate the player based on what I’ve seen.
What we’ve paid for him is irrelevant in my book…in our attempt to survive this season, the key measure for me is, is he better than what we have?
IMO I don’t think so

Comment #159Super sad he’s gone. The way he handled lukaku was impressive and Newcastle will be very happy with him.
Really sorry to see him go he’s almost unplayable when he’s on fire. But obviously a nice end to his career at his hometown club and a nice payday for him. You’ve got an absolute gem there.
And not just this season. He was my player of the year in Potter’s first season. Played out of position at left back and never once appeared in a sulk about it, just got on with it and gave 100%. Technically way better than he was given credit for by some as well. #bhafc
