Newcastle’s Late Push For Another Attacker Appears To Have Come Up Short

Newcastle have not yet given up hope of adding another attacker in this window. After Manchester United decided to pull Jesse Lingard off the market, Newcastle are now trying to hijack Everton’s permanent move for Dele Alli.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein is reporting Newcastle are enquiring about a loan move for the 25-year-old. However, it is being reported by other outlets that Alli is about to undergo a medical with Everton.

Newcastle have moved too late for any hopes of landing Alli at this stage. It would appear the former England international is set for Goodison Park with just four hours left in the window.

This late push signals that Newcastle are making a last-gasp effort to add another attacker. The chances are remote and the options are likely very slim this late in the window.

Though Keith Downie reckons that Atalanta are open to allowing Duvan Zapata to leave on loan. This is contrary to what has been reported all window long. Here is Downie’s tweet on the 30-year-old Colombian.

This seems almost an impossible endeavor at this point with the logistics involved. Newcastle’s incoming business will most likely end at five signings once Dan Burn is officially confirmed.

Outgoings continue this evening with Matt Bondswell heading to Shrewsbury Town on loan for the rest of the season. Best of luck, Matt!

Lewis really doesn’t seem to have impressed Eddie. I’m not that surprised tbh.

Still don’t believe Zapata is available for that loan fee.

Reports suggested nufc made offers for more than that and we’re turned down!

if Atalanta are willing to let zapata leave….cant see why we wouldn’t get him in… especially if there’s no obligation to buy

    Taggert – good lad!

“I’m delighted to be here. I can’t wait to get going and meet all the fans and hopefully we can have a successful end to the season,” said Targett.

“My family have friends here and they’ve always said it’s a football-mad city, so to experience it and be part of it – I’m really looking forward to it.”

Lovem I looked into it, I’d believe it because Zap hadn’t even made the squad for the last month. It seems he’s not needed.

Doubt Zapata will happen. If the fee was that low then I imagine we’d have been all over it earlier, as would other clubs. The paperwork needed to complete this late into the day probably makes it near impossible.

It’s been a great window, incredible actually! So I’m extremely satisfied with our business and more confident than ever that we’ll stay up ?

Zapata is out with a muscle injury according to transfermarkt.

He would be a great choice but I am highly sceptical about the price and whether it could happen in time

    Transfer window summary:

Chris Wood – Worse than Andy Carroll who we released in the summer. £25m down the drain.

Matt Targett – Better than Paul Dummett, but on par with Jamal Lewis. Position not strengthened.

Trippier – On par/worse than Manquillo. Not an upgrade.

Dan Burn – Worse than Schar, Fernandez, Lascelles and Clark. Not an upgrade.

Guimaraes – Great technical player. Hopefully this will be the end of the useless Isaac Hayden.

Overall, a very poor window. We needed 11 quality players brought in and we’ve only signed 1.

Trippier better than what we had
Wood…better than what we haven’t got…i.e. a fit Centre forward.
Bruno…Outstanding buy…he alone can take our transitional play to another level and improve our defensive play.
Targett…better than what we’ve got available in the current squad…I’m quite a fan actually.
Burn…I don’t believe he’s better than anything we have…just taller!

So in summary three players better than what we had.
Two give us a bit more strength and depth but no improvement in quality…but they’ll fight til the bitter end.

I think we need one more good signing to make that a very good window indeed.

We’ll stay up with these guys…I don’t care how much we’ve spent…the most important thing was to stay up…and we will.

Lord Scattercash and It’s All Under Control are now retired until the summer window!

    Onwards and upwards.

Lewis was a waste of £15m. Should have went for Rogerio instead. Big mistake. Lazaar was better than Lewis.

I’d play a back 4 of Trippier, Schar or Fede, Burn or Dummett, and Targett. Think that’s okay, with Guimarães holding in front. Lascelles I guess will play, but I am not that big a fan. Clark I think will go, or miss out. Need Wilson back. Wood and Gayle just isn’t enough security up top, given our position.
