Newcastle have not yet given up hope of adding another attacker in this window. After Manchester United decided to pull Jesse Lingard off the market, Newcastle are now trying to hijack Everton’s permanent move for Dele Alli.
The Athletic’s David Ornstein is reporting Newcastle are enquiring about a loan move for the 25-year-old. However, it is being reported by other outlets that Alli is about to undergo a medical with Everton.
? EXCL: Newcastle make dramatic late attempt to pip Everton to Dele Alli signing after losing out on Lingard. #NUFC have enquired to take Dele on loan just as permanent Everton move enters final stages. Unclear if it will succeed @TheAthleticUK #EFC #THFC https://t.co/eRihveYZid

Newcastle have moved too late for any hopes of landing Alli at this stage. It would appear the former England international is set for Goodison Park with just four hours left in the window.
This late push signals that Newcastle are making a last-gasp effort to add another attacker. The chances are remote and the options are likely very slim this late in the window.
Though Keith Downie reckons that Atalanta are open to allowing Duvan Zapata to leave on loan. This is contrary to what has been reported all window long. Here is Downie’s tweet on the 30-year-old Colombian.
Duvan Zapata is the only other striker option I can see for Newcastle at this late stage.
He’s available for a £5.5m straight loan fee. No obligation to buy, like there had been previously this month.
He’s been mentioned, and Atalanta would allow the deal to happen #NUFC— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) January 31, 2022
This seems almost an impossible endeavor at this point with the logistics involved. Newcastle’s incoming business will most likely end at five signings once Dan Burn is officially confirmed.
Outgoings continue this evening with Matt Bondswell heading to Shrewsbury Town on loan for the rest of the season. Best of luck, Matt!
? Good luck, @MattBondswell_!

Comment #245Matty Longstaff is joining an in form side but in league two. Was hoping he’d get a league one club, although he couldn’t break into the Aberdeen midfield so it’s not a massive surprise.
Anderson heading to Bristol Rovers, good test for him but again was hoping he’d get a league one move.
White at Hartlepool too.
Let’s see how they do.
Watts has been our only loan success this season so far. Would rather have him back than keep Clark.

Comment #2487/10 window in the end.
Bruno the only true difference maker, but a combination of Burn and Targett should tighten up that left side of defence that has cost us so many goals this season.
Crucial, crucial match against Everton now.
Will be interesting to see how Bruno comes into the midfield, whether he plays deepest allowing Shelvey to get forward and join attacks like he did successfully a couple of seasons ago, adding some goal threat, or whether Shelvey still plays deepest.
Targett will hopefully strike up a rapport with ASM. He has similar crossing capability to Ritchie but is a better footballer, physical presence and defender.
Howe needs to make a big call at CB. Is he going to drop the MOTM from our last outing Schar and sacrifice his ball-playing ability?
I think not. I think Lascelles will indeed be dropped and Trippier will get the armband.
Need the improving Fraser to start having some end product and Wood needs to get off the mark against Everton and be hungrier for goals.

Comment #250I’m not sure who I want to get 4th now.
If West Ham get it, Lingard surely goes there in the summer.
Definitely don’t want scummy Man U to get it.
Spurs and Levy can suck a fat one.
So I guess by process of elimination that leads me to Arsenal, although they will have a big rebuild job on in the summer and if they get 4th will rival us for some targets, I’m sure.

Comment #251Adding target makes us lethal down that left, trips covers up our weakness in rm/rw. Guimareche starts on the bench unless joe is still injured and I think burn comes straight in for schar unlike ya self shola. Think Eddie likes lascelles and burn is decent with the ball at his feet for a big lump. I’d go with you about a 7 or 8 out of 10 …..which is great considering our posistion and after pretty much 14 years of 1 out of 10s. Another striker would’ve probably got me toward the 10 and they tried their hardest so fair play. Summer will be amazing judging by homes comments yesterday.

Comment #255Assuming that’s is done and Burn is finally confirmed (slightly worried about that), and Hendrick joins QPR.
That leaves
GK
Dubravka, Darlow, Gillespie
RB
Trippier, Manquillo, Kraft
CB
Schar, Burn, Lascelles, Fernandez
LB
Targets, Lewis, Dummett
DM
Guimaraes, Hayden
RW
Fraser, Murphy
CM
Willock, Shelvey, Joelinton, S. Longstaff
LW
Saint-Maximin, Ritchie
AM
Almiron
ST
Wilson, Wood, Gayle
That’s 27. Not registering Gillespie would be an option, Langley can be 3rd choice.
Who gets left out, a few are out injured. Kraft is rarely injured so possibly Dummett misses out. Gayle needed a cover or take the risk and leave him out.

Comment #256Decent prem level cb, puts himself about and is ok though ball at his feet. Can cover lb if he has to …..steady signing not spectacular but improves us in defence as he’ll give us balance being a left footed cb. Remembering we are often playing with right footed lbs until targett arrived.

Comment #260Also another benefit of the Bruno Guimaraes signing might be that Willock can play further up the field and hopefully rediscover his form.
Almiron has a part to play but Howe needs to find a way of getting the best out of him.

Comment #280Looks like its all done and dusted, all gone quiet and not much happening. 5 players in which is more than I was expecting to be honest, really needed to get two new centre backs in as Lascelles, as I have said time and time again is a championship defender and is mistake prone and simply not good enough, he was bought from a championship team when we where relegated and is STILL a first team player and hasn’t improved much since we signed him. between clark fernandez and schar they are still all lower level average defenders and cannot be relied on put in a good shift every game in the position we are in. it could prove to be a costly mistake going with the same defenders in a relegation battle, sure we might be able to score goals but conceding them happens all to often. we still have championship defenders playing for us after spending almost 100 million. not happy.
