Newcastle Agree On £25M Fee For Reims Wonder-Kid Hugo Ekitike

There’s good news in the Athletic today and from Sky Sports, that Reims have accepted Newcastle’s offer of around £25M plus add-ons (up to £8M) for the Reims talented young forward – Hugo Ekitike.

Newcastle have been linked with French wonderkid Hugo Ekitike for weeks now, and news from Sky Sports trusted journalist Keith Downie that the latest bid has been accepted.

The 19-year-old 6ft 2ins striker is considered one of the best young talents in French football, and he is the kind of gifted young player Newcastle should be signing.

To get him in this month is a huge bonus in terms of our survival in the Premier League..

He joined Reims back in 2009 and has played 22 times for the French club with 9 goals and 3 assists, after making his debut at just 17.

The 19-year-old would be Newcastle’s  6th signing of this window, as the rush to get him his medical at Newcastle is now underway.

Newcastle have signed Trippier, Wood, and Guimaraes with Dan Burn close to being announced, and Matt Targett having his medical on Tyneside on a loan through the end of the season.

Fasten your seat belts, we could even sign more players today!!

Despite the signings looks defensive oriented, most of these players signed played in well organized attacking teams.

Spent more this xfer window than the last 14 Winter xfer windows put together. I think it would hard to find someone who is disappointed.

It’s not about population in the midlands, it’s their lack of diversity in the club.

    theartfuldodger,
I think the owners have played a blinder this window and laid down the law. If we stay up all these club know we aren’t desperate and have a bloody good scouting network in place. Lille, Sevilla and Man U could easily end up with egg on their faces when the players they’ve refused never get offers like that again.

Hugo Ekitike could fly to England in the next few hours to be ready for potential move to Newcastle – as clubs are getting closer to full agreement. White circleBlack circle? #NUFC

Reims want percentage on future sale clause included. €25m plus bonuses bid on the table.

Wow…up early here and seeing all this great news. Not even having to wait until 11pm for last second deals it seems. They seem to want to make sure they at least get our needs over the line in time with no unforeseen last minute hiccups…wow…imagine that.

I also think with a few big names left on the table and clubs saying they might consider in the summer we also will probably have a few good moves up our sleeves then as perhaps a couple of these signings will become our cover in areas to even bigger and better things. This was definitely a statement start and if we finish strong and stay up easily players this summer will have no reason not to see what is going on here.

Looks like Reims want a fixed amount, realizable bonuses as well as a sell on clause?? Tough deal to crack….I think its either him or Lingaard….One is waiting for the other to go through or fall apart…

Norman Hunter…a great man and a proper legend.

His private persona was nowt like his on-field one…a very gentle man, a family man, and never avoided the non-stop stream of fans wanting to talk to him.

    God rest his soul!

One of the dirtiest/ hardest footballers without the ball…but silky smooth and a great runner / passer with the ball.

He’d be worth 80 million today and Van Dyke would be watching him every week seeing what he could do to improve.

Players like Hunter come round every 25 years max.

Maybe one’s due soon and we can buy one!

Rotonda, Ive made it patently clear that Im only viewing the brief clips on Ekitike. He’s probably brilliant but being a fair and balanced guy ( did you like that ?) , I’ll be delighted to give him the benefit of the doubt. you say 5 mins judgement, but thats about all I can see on the Dennis Wise. Im delighted if we get him, like any fan. There is certainly much potential . As for the other matter, I enjoyed being proved 100% correct for raising questions and improving the debate . You’d be better off acknowledging that, given what has happened since! But then, you never did magnanimous did you? 🙂

More importantly, lets hope all these guys do well and settle in fastby the way I agree with someone earlier ( Maybe Jail?) that guys like Targett and Burn might be better bets for us just now, rather than Carlos and Co. That can hold until the summer.

    HTL.
