Newcastle Confirm The Signing Of Matt Targett On Loan From Aston Villa

Newcastle have confirmed the signing of left-back Matt Targett. The 26-year-old joins on loan from Aston Villa for the rest of this campaign. Targett is Eddie Howe’s fourth signing of this winter window.

Targett is delighted to join Newcastle and has said the following about his move:

“I’m delighted to be here. I can’t wait to get going and meet all the fans and hopefully we can have a successful end to the season.

“My family have friends here and they’ve always said it’s a football-mad city, so to experience it and be part of it – I’m really looking forward to it.”

The former-Southampton defender provides another option at left-back of which Howe now has plenty. He arrives in search of first-team football with Aston Villa’s recent signing of Lucas Digne from Everton.

Howe is pleased to see a player of Targett’s caliber and experience through the door. He said the following about his new left-back:

“We have gone into this transfer window with a plan to add strong competition in specific areas of the team and Matt will be a fantastic option for us on the left.

“He has important Premier League experience and know-how at this level, so I’m really pleased we’ve been able to add him to the squad.”

Targett’s first interview can be viewed here on the club’s website. He will wear the number 13 shirt.

Welcome to Newcastle, Matt!

I said the same about Greenwood affecting the Lingard transfer but a few people disagreed. I suspect that Lingard will get a few more minutes this season without Martial or Greenwood in the team.

    Bus moved so reposting…

Is there anyone here who would have been genuinely unhappy with Tripper, Wood, Guimaraes, Targett, and Burn if it was offered to you in December? Probably not many…

How about it that was offered to you in early October (before the takeover?)

All the money in the world and still over dependent on ASM for all our creativity and goals

If he gets injured we’re going down

Doesn’t mean there’s a pact at all. Greenwood news will have changed the landscape entirely. Just also got rid of DVDB on loan so will likely feel sending Lingard out leaves them short. They also refused to loan him to West Ham and said he isn’t leaving at all, which rules out any club. So still no proof of a pact im afraid!

Maybe a late move for Origi? Any players from outside the country would have to be done ASAP. A more local loan or bid could be a possibility still.

Basically spent £100m in a January window (the tougher window) after having new owners for less than half a season. Yet some fans are still finding things to be negative and complain about. Unreal man.

I think some of the neggers are Mackems or WUMs. Certainly makes no sense to me that any genuine Toon fan would be negative about our club right now. And if they are a Toon fan, I think they’re a pretty sad person desperately seeking attention at this point.

Even Kets, I generally find your patter amusing but being overly negative on a day like today is just silly.

Jog on the lot of you. Today is a good day to be a Toon fan.

I’ve been trying to tell everyone that this isn’t Manures fault. And I predicted he wouldn’t move anywhere, everyone thought I was wrong.

Lingard is being greedy, Manure will sell him to any club but Lingard won’t accept a permanent contract with anyone until the summer because he wants a huge pay day by letting his contract run down and collect the full signing on fee himself from whoever buys him himself in the summer.

Manure are clearly pissed off with this because it takes away their chance of making decent money on him through a sale, and rightly so, they nurtured him since he was a kid and now he wants to shaft them by being greedy.

I hate Manure as much as anyone but ive been saying all along this impass is due to Lingards greed and not Manure simply trying to raise the price because its us.

We are on the cusp of increasingly better football and increasingly better results. Place will start going bonkers. Love the term, “not a sleeping giant……a sleeping monster”. It’s going to be fantastic, and its happening. So happy for us, and the City and the region.

We desperately need somone up top, I can’t believe I saying it but I think it’s Taylor made to now go for Aubameyang on loan for 6 months. We are kinda desperate now for the cherry on top to really kick all the other good signings off.

    Aye,

Certainly with Martial away, and Greenwood probably sacked, Lingard should get game time at Manure.

Odd that Rangnick said he could go and looks like the board have now overruled him. Can only mean they have no faith in Rangnick. Club is in turmoil !

Burn got his med before Target and Target has been confirmed.

Burn is a permanent transfer whereas Targett is a loan, so easier to complete the latter.

Have already said this once today(!), but I do think that’s #NUFC done on incomings (once Dan Burn is confirmed). 5 signings make this a very good window IMO. They’ve gone for experience, character & fight, players who can go into the team straight away & know the challenge.

Considering the momentum we have right now, i understand some fans want more.

But if we go back to January the first, we got an almost brand new defense, a top midfielder, and a striker.

Wich was exactly the roadmap at the start of the window.

    So job done for me…

So glad we finally got some players “over the line”!

Any disappointment on the level of the players we have signed is only because our owners also tried their damnedest to get Bruno G level quality in each position (and a lot of this was in the media building our hopes). As others have said, very pleased

I’m pretty happy about the transfer window and ecstatic if I compare it to windows under Ashley.

But whether it’s enough to get us out the shizer is yet to be seen. It does give us a fighting chance in the relegation battle though so it’s a positive even though we missed out on a few(hundred) players 😆
