BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson has given his predictions for this weekend’s Premier League matches. He has Newcastle losing at Brentford by a score of 2-1, which would raise the angst levels on Tyneside, if accurate.
Here is some of Lawro’s take on the match:
Like Leeds, Brentford are another team on the slide – they have taken only one point from their past seven games, and a resurgent Newcastle will go above them with a win on Saturday.
On form, you’d go with the Magpies to do exactly that, but I actually think this scenario might bring a big performance out of the Bees. Their fans will certainly have a part to play too because this is an absolutely huge game for their season. Their collective hunger could make the difference.
Newcastle have picked up 12 points from their past six games, more than they managed in their previous 19. As good as they’ve been – and they’ve been very good – their levels are going to drop at some point and the nature of the Premier League means, when that happens, they will probably be beaten.
The former-Liverpool defender is using his crystal ball to predict a reversal of form from the two clubs. He expects two streaks to come to an end with a Brentford victory.
The Bees have not won in their last seven league matches. In fact, they have only picked up 1 point over that span. Newcastle, on the other hand, are unbeaten in their last six in the league.
It’s a match of contrasting forms which has brought the two clubs to within 2 points of each other. As the Toon Army has done for Newcastle, Lawro sees the Brentford fans playing a big role in the outcome.
Newcastle can jump The Bees with a win. Depending on how Everton and Leeds fare this weekend, The Magpies can climb as high as 14th. That will, hopefully, provide plenty of motivation to keep the levels high.

Comment #8Let’s not reinvent history regarding Chris Hughton. Always seemed like a lovely guy but he’s got a worse PL record than Steve Bruce! 24.55% win ratio versus 27.94%
Hughton has doubtless made a lot of money from football and I wish him well. Always carried himself well and talked with respect.

Comment #9Anyway thought I’d briefly drop in.
We looked excellent against West Ham, so organised.
The signing of Bruno has lifted the CM massively.
We look so much fitter and more driven.
Targett is solid, but not good enough to be made permanent.
Wood has really helped give us a focal point and is working his socks off. Really hope a goal comes for him, he deserves it.
Burn is superb. So pleased we got him over any foreign pretenders.
That’s my two penny’s worth, have a good day, keep arguing 馃檪

Comment #17My view on the despicable behaviour of the tyrannical , megalomaniacal Russian despot is that he will be responsible for his own downfall.
His paranoia and ego flamed crusade to leave his mark will backfire on him when the Boy’s Club ( CIA) eliminate him from the game.

Comment #28The Ledge – A lot of respect for Hughton? 100% He got us out of the Championship and did it with grace. Class act. Saying he’s your 2nd favourite since SBR sadly isn’t saying much though…not many good candidates since then. Hughton and Rafa for charm (though I prefer Hughton) and Pardew for results? Could currently say Howe but early days for him.

Comment #32Frickn Lawro – predictions not based on stats, tactical analysis, personnel/injuries, form, fitness…
Just shaking a magic 8 ball on some perceived potential for Brentford to suddenly step up even though they haven’t at all in the last games. At least if he said NUFC without ASM and Toney back for Brentford he’d have a leg to stand on
What a turd, can believe the BBC keep paying him for this tosh. Seriously no analytical skills whatsoever.
