Eddie Howe has provided an update on Allan Saint-Maximin during this morning’s press conference. The winger is due to return to training today and, depending on how he fares, could be in contention for Saturday’s match against Brighton.
Here is Howe’s update per Newcastle’s Twitter account:
“Maxi hasn’t trained yet with us but we’re hoping he does today. We’ll have to make a decision based off how he looks and how his injury status is after the session.
“Other than that, we’re as we were pre-Brentford.”
Saint-Maximin has missed the previous two matches – a draw at West Ham and a win at Brentford – after taking a whack to his calf in the win over Aston Villa. He spent last week in Monaco with a specialist.
Before the Brentford match, Howe said Allan faced a late fitness test, which he didn’t pass. He faces one again though with him back in training today, his odds are a bit better that he can at least make the bench.
Howe may not want to rush the 24-year-old back with three away matches in a week on the horizon. Ryan Fraser was unplayable on the left against The Bees. His performance is deserving of an encore on his preferred flank.
Jacob Murphy also played well down his natural right-hand side after being a straight swap for Allan against West Ham. Allan’s return is not as critical with Ryan and Jacob getting the job done in his absence.

Comment #41Jail…to be fair I’ve kind of assumed that on the basis he’s not trained for two weeks and his first training session is today…so Howe being Howe I doubt he would start and probably won’t take part with a view to being involved against Southampton.
So pretend my comments came from the daily mail and take with a pinch of salt! 😀 😀

Comment #43Mund – it’s a conversation, it’s a discussion. This isn’t making a big deal of it, it’s just people discussing an interesting Toon related topic of the day. You’re twisting things to suit your narrative again while the rest of us are just discussing the topic.

Comment #48Brighton play a possession game that relies on the wing backs pushing forward. Murphy has the energy and legs to help close down the Brighton midfield and wingbacks. A partially fit ASM who hasn’t trained for a while does not. From this perspective alone I would prefer Murphy to start.
Whoever has to look after Lamptey will need to track back with him or they’ll give us the runaround again like they did at the start of the season.
As has been seen recently, if Brighton are denied control in the midfield then they are vulnerable at the back and don’t have an attack that will succeed on limited possession.
If only we had a guy in our team who understands Potter’s style and the Brightion players weaknesses………..

Comment #49Mund – you really are a rude and quite pathetic person when someone disagrees with you. The majority would think like me because the majority are decent people and don’t think it’s appropriate to be “really sad” or not fair that Abramovich is selling his club. The vast majority of people have perspective. Read the room and the comments here.

Comment #51It appears Howe was playing mindgames last week with his ASM is having a late fitness test when it appears he wasn’t even in the country let alone trained with the squad.
He’ll be on the bench tomorrow and no change to the starting line up for the third game running.

I don’t think Lamptey has been as effective as of late, certainly not as much as he was when we last faced him. Still need to be cautious with him though, so Murphy able to track back and help out isn’t a bad shout.
Brighton are off the pace a little bit with results not going their way, so a rocking St James’ Park is probably the last place they’d want to go to try and get a result.
If we start off with high intensity and do the kind of pressing and closing down we have in the last few weeks, I think their midfield will be kept fairly quiet and we can bring the game to them 🙂

Do you think that Amanda Staveley’s public comments regarding being “really sad” that Abramovich is selling Chelsea are unwise considering the current invasion of Ukraine by Russia?

Made me think immediately of those cockneys fatty Dianne and Jezza.
Jezza took her on holiday to east Germany in the early 70’s. What were they doing there – charity work.

Comment #60Sparky – no chance. Amanda dropped a bollock. No way 50% of people here think she didn’t. Should she be sacked, fined, censured, or punished in any way because of it? No. But she dropped a bollock, she may well come out and apologise, and she certainly needs to learn from that mistake.

Comment #64Aye, what Amanda said wasn’t cricket given what’s going off at present.
I’m sure folk with Huntington’s experience degradation in reasoning and judgement skills. Like should I drop my shoulder on that question or not.
Her answer was more personal than political I thought, about a club being taken away form an owner. All the graft they’ve put in to get the Toon and the graft that they’ll be doing going forward only for it to be taken away at a time down the line.
But yeah, wrong words used by wor Amanda, either give a party line answer or duck it all together.

-Huntington’s disease
Contents
Overview
Symptoms
Tests
Treatment and support
Huntington’s disease can cause a wide range of symptoms, including problems with mental health, behaviour, movement and communication.
The symptoms usually start at 30 to 50 years of age, but can begin earlier than this (juvenile Huntington’s disease) or much later.
Once they start, the symptoms usually get gradually worse.
Early symptoms
The first symptoms of Huntington’s disease often include:
difficulty concentrating
memory lapses
depression – including low mood, a lack of interest in things, and feelings of hopelessness
stumbling and clumsiness
mood swings, such as irritability or aggressive behaviour
Later problems
Over time, someone with Huntington’s disease may develop:
involuntary jerking or fidgety movements of the limbs and body
difficulty speaking clearly – eventually they may find all communication very difficult
swallowing problems – they may choke on food and get lung infections (pneumonia) from food going down the wrong way
increasingly slow or rigid movements
personality changes – sometimes they may change so they don’t seem like their former self at all
breathing problems
difficulty moving around – they may eventually lose the ability to walk or sit up by themselves
In the later stages, people with Huntington’s disease find daily activities increasingly difficult and will need full-time nursing care.

Comment #71Wor B – different, and even minority, opinions are great and inspire thought and discussion. I’m well aware when I have a minority opinion (for example, I dislike The Godfather film) but it’s weird when others don’t see that. The world has got twisted when people are being told that minority (or even extreme) opinions carry as much weight as mainstream or majority opinions (especially when these have a weight of facts behind them).
