Report Claims Newcastle’s Summer Exodus Will Include 24-Year-Old

A few weeks ago, The Times claimed that Newcastle plan to offload seven Magpies in the summer window. The players named were Miguel Almiron, Ciaran Clark, Karl Darlow, Dwight Gayle, Issac Hayden, Emil Krafth, and Jamal Lewis.

Most of those named will come as no surprise as they’ve played very little this season. Ciaran Clark, Dwight Gayle, and Karl Darlow have little chance of making an impact next season with a number of top signings expected to come through the door.

Emil Krafth and Isaac Hayden could theoretically do a job as squad players next season, though some may take issue with that. Krafth has been solid at right-back in the absence of Kieran Trippier. Hayden did not make the squad in January due to knee surgery.

A couple of surprises on the list are Miguel Almiron and Jamal Lewis. Almiron has started the last two matches though doesn’t have a natural home in Eddie Howe’s 4-3-3. With just two years left on this contract this summer, that may be the best time to offload the 28-year-old.

Football Insider has a report that Jamal Lewis will be part of Newcastle’s overhaul in the summer. They are backing the claim from The Times that Jamal’s future could be elsewhere.

The 24-year-old was left out of the squad for the second half of this campaign with Howe citing a chronic groin problem as the reason. The latest news on Lewis is that he was seeking specialist treatment in Germany and could go under the knife.

Football Insider claims it would take a bid of just £8m for Lewis to leave in the summer. That would represent a significant loss for a player who cost around £13.5m just two years ago.

Lewis strikes me as a player who can improve immensely under Howe if given the chance. While Matt Targett, should he join permanently in the summer, would be the preferred choice at left-back of the two, Lewis may still have a point to prove at Newcastle.
