This is the team Eddie Howe has named for this afternoon’s match at Manchester City. It has three changes from the defeat to Liverpool.

Howe has brought Chris Wood back into the team while seemingly moving Joelinton back into the midfield. Sean Longstaff gets another chance to impress as Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Willock aren’t in the squad.
Callum Wilson and Kieran Trippier make the bench for the first time since their injuries. Fabian Schar is fit enough for a place on the bench with Jamaal Lascelles getting the nod.
Here is who Pep Guardiola has selected for the hosts with Kyle Walker and John Stones out.

XI | Ederson, Cancelo, Dias, Laporte, Zinchenko, Rodrigo, De Bruyne, Gundogan (C), Grealish, Sterling, Jesus

Newcastle get a second chance to impact the title race. The lads came up short against The Reds but could do Liverpool a big favor with a result today. Manchester City can move three points clear with a win.
The Magpies need to be at their best to avoid a second straight defeat. A place in the top ten is within grasp so there is plenty to fight for over the final three weeks. A result at The Etihad would be a welcome bonus.

Comment #4No Shelvey or Willock in the squad, I hope they have not been sidelined due to complaining to much. ASM needs to support Targett today otherwise Cities width will do us, big time.

Comment #12Can only be injury or illness for Jonjo and Joe.
Seems Eddie prefers Almiron to Murphy currently. Difficult to see why both couldn’t start, both performing better than ASM for months now.
Hopefully Allan feels like he has a point to prove. Something has to light a fire in him and hopefully this weeks events have done it. Actions louder than words son.
Longstaff under a press always bothers me, but at least it’s likely to be Bruno deepest so any loss of possession might not be so costly.
Tall order no matter the personnel, just try to enjoy it and see if the lads can give us cause for encouragement.

Comment #14If Leeds go down, we should snatch Kalvin Philips and Raphinha off them, two instant upgrades to what we already have and both would fit our team and manager perfectly, Philips is a direct upgrade on Hayden, Shelvey, and longstaff. and Raphinha is a direct upgrade on both Fraser Almiron and Murphy, sign both of them, sign Paqueta to sit infront of phillips and guimares get onana from aqax as a replacement for dubs and sven botman as a cb signing and we golden. top 8 next season

Comment #22I’d read Willock was an injury doubt but Jonjo is a surprise – not even on the bench so it must be illness or injury (or he’s chinned Eddie)!
I agree with Jail that City team is awesome but hopefully they’ve still got a hangover from their defeat in the CL!

Comment #23We’re nearly mathematically safe now – we’d have to lose our last 3 games and Leeds would have to win all 3 of theirs and score 19 more goals than us to overtake us!

Comment #26We are playing with ten men with Longstaff in the team, as if it wasn`t going to be hard enough, but with that knacker in midfield we will get totally overrun.
Far too slow and is a liability under pressure

Comment #35I think for the first time ever — I am more excited to see Almiron play than Maximin.
If City play a high back line, you would expect Miggy and Max to get chances to run through on goal.
