Local Lad Is Reluctant To Sign New Four-Year Contract

Earlier in the week, Luke Edwards tweeted that Newcastle were hoping to add four to six players this summer. However, that number is dependent on the success of offloading fringe members of the squad.

It does appear that at least four players will be added with a striker, a wide attacker, a center-back, and a left-back (if Matt Targett’s purchase option is not taken up) as the probable additions.

Edwards has identified some of the players that could make way in his latest report in The Telegraph. He believes Matt Ritchie, Ciaran Clark, Karl Darlow, Federico Fernandez, Isaac Hayden, Jeff Hendrick and Dwight Gayle have all been made available.

Interestingly, Edwards is also reporting that Sean Longstaff could be leaving his hometown club. The Geordie has so far refused to sign a new deal despite Eddie Howe’s attempts to retain him. The Times reported last week that Sean has been offered a 4-year contract.

Longstaff wants more playing time and is unlikely to any guarantees from Howe. The 24-year-old has been the fifth-choice midfielder this season behind Jonjo Shelvey, Joe Willock, Bruno Guimaraes, and Joelinton.

While Howe has three midfielders in his system, Sean has seen precious few minutes on the pitch this year. He made just his fourth league start of 2022 at the Etihad this past weekend. Though he will likely get the nod in the final two matches with Shelvey and Willock out through injury.

If Sean does leave, Howe will almost certainly look to add another midfielder this summer. Jeff Hendrick and Isaac Hayden have been made available and Matty Longstaff may need another seasoning out on loan before he is ready for the Premier League.

Shame to hear Eddie come out and say he doesn’t see us playing 2 up front with Wilson and woods. I would have liked to see that experiment with Bruno and Joel in mid seeing as willock and shelvey are injured. Maybe he sees it as an opportunity to get Sean minutes so he signs that contract?

Correct me but Hendricks can’t play right? He wasn’t registered in our squad so not an option, right? Right??

    Agree totally.
TDS it’s not really the money that bothers me(if it is 150 a week) it’s that he hasn’t shown anything to deserve it IMO. We have plenty of money, just think it would be better spent elsewhere.

ottawageordie2 – From my perspective, whether the salary is £150kpw or £80kpw, I can only see the point in signing someone like Lingard if he’s expected to be a regular starter. If he is, then I don’t care one jot if we’re paying him £150kpw. If we’re going to bring in a player who is experienced at the top level of the PL but won’t be a regular starter, then I don’t think Lingard is that man. I’d far rather get someone like Milner if he’s available.

    Vardy v Rooney: Day 2

“Mrs Rooney, the wife of former England footballer Wayne, claimed the only account that could have seen three fake stories she had posted on her personal Instagram account – which later appeared in The Sun – was Mrs Vardy’s.

Mrs Vardy has denied being the source of the leaks and said a number of people had access to her accounts.”

Stats are so misleading especially when it comes to ASM his dribbles for example are usually in areas where he does nothing with them yeah he beats a few and it looks good but 90% of the time the opposition take it off him 5 seconds later

Chances created that chance for Wood is the first real chance I can remember him setting anyone up for ages he took a touch looked up and put a peach of a cross in he should be doing that all the time

Although Wood that was a shocking miss terrible infact

Far too many posts to properly catch up on…

    Lingard NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FFS!

As someone posted earlier,he’s had a good six months in ten footing seasons..
There’s better and younger out there,ok they will have a transfer fee fair enough,I bet the first installment of that fee is equal to what Lingard’s after,as a signing on fee.

As for England International, once your’e through that door, you are in till retirement.Always been like that..

Found some stats from the beginning of the year. Interestingly, ASM has 1 goal and 1 assist. Fraser has 2 goals and 2 assists. I’m not inferring anything with that as it’s only one stand alone stat but thought it was interesting as that’s more or less from the start of our upturn.

I would have liked to have seen Murphy given a run of games on the right to see how he would have done and not as a wing back or right back. He’s been getting himself into good positions and just needs to imagine that the post is 6 inches inside of where it actually is

I’ll never truly understand the football fan’s desire to attack a creative, exciting, and quality player just because they’re not as good as they should be in the fan’s head.

I’ve seen it for so many players playing for Newcastle, England, and other clubs. I just can’t fully get my head around it.

ASM frustrates fans for sure but he also excites fans. Ever seen Fraser or Murphy do something and just think “Wow!”? I haven’t. That unpredictability is what makes him dangerous. Defenders know that he might take on 2 of them so sometimes they make sure there are 3 players on him. Even then, they know they’re not 100% safe as he still might try to go past them rather than pass the ball backwards/sideways.

Sure, ASM can improve his decision making, but he needs to keep some of that unpredictability in his game to be the threat we all know he can be.

If Howe is happy to give Longstaff a four year deal, why would he want to sell St Max?
Longstaff offers sfa, Maxi at least offers a little entertainment, even if it does end up as an anti climax.
Me personally, i would get rid of both, one doesn`t seem to have the ability to be a PL player, the other doesn`t seem to want to be a PL team player.
50M for Max has been mentioned, you are having a laugh right.
I`m sure the big spenders in the PL will be breaking their necks for his signature

    TDSarf,
It’s because they’re opinions and they’re not set in stone. Some people think we should sign older players, some don’t. Some think giving Dummet a new deal was a terrible idea, others thought it was brilliant business. That’s just the way it is.

Longstaff is never going to get the run of games to properly make his mark

He’s always getting dropped in against teams like City and Chelsea games that we don’t expect anything from and he always tries his best but looks rusty

Then in the games against teams that he could maybe do something it’s either not worked out or he’s been injured

Best to go somewhere where he plays all the time like a Blackburn or a West Brom…..

I really like Sean, and also Manquillo, and hope they are retained and do enough to figure. I might be being a little sentimental, but I think they both have the quality to figure as we strengthen, not necessarily as starters, although possibly, but as a part of good depth in a better overall group. You could understand though why a player might not fancy this. Still though, I hope they are both still with us next term, as part of a top eight group, all getting their heads down and competing for a place in the starting 11 and match day squads.
