Newcastle United are officially safe after Wednesday’s fixtures despite dropping to 14th in the league table. Leeds’ 3-0 defeat against Chelsea has secured Newcastle’s place in the division for next season.
Leeds, who occupy the 18th position in the league, are now 9 points behind The Magpies with two matches remaining thus confirming safety for Newcastle. Leeds are in serious trouble of returning to the Championship.
In other results, Everton fail to pick up a third straight win as they only achieved a 0-0 draw at Watford. The Hornets’ fate of relegation was sealed with their 1-0 loss at Crystal Palace this past weekend.
Leicester defeated Norwich 3-0 at The King Power Stadium to leap Newcastle in the table. The Foxes still have one match in hand which could pose problems for Newcastle’s push for a top ten place.
Here is a look at the updated league table.
Club | Matches | Goal Difference | Points | |
---|---|---|---|---|
9 | Brighton | 38 | -2 | 51 |
10 | Wolves | 38 | -5 | 51 |
11 | Newcastle | 38 | -18 | 49 |
12 | Palace | 38 | 4 | 48 |
13 | Brentford | 38 | -8 | 46 |
14 | Villa | 38 | -2 | 45 |
15 | Southampton | 38 | -24 | 40 |
16 | Everton | 38 | -23 | 39 |
17 | Leeds | 38 | -37 | 38 |
18 | Burnley | 38 | -19 | 35 |
Newcastle can match their 2013/14 points total of 49 with a win against Arsenal and at Burnley to close this season. The fact that Newcastle are now safe is a testament to Eddie Howe’s impact since his arrival.

Comment #41I think we will make one jaw dropping signing, even for our expectations, not sure Nunez would join us mind.

Comment #56We WERE up there challenging Manure 25 years ago, gave them a good run for their money, i can remember that, like many bloggers on here.
Any young uns under 25 won`t remember any of the KK years, all they have known is mostly bleak times under Jabba.
If we can go toe to toe with Spurs and Manure in the next two years then that would certainly be a dream come true for all those young uns mentioned

Dont believe the bullsh!t…believe in the legal team who know how to flex the rules just like man city, chelsea, and Man U did.
FFP aint the issue everyone thinks. Outside think tanks are quoting 200 million a year for 5 years before we even touch the sides of FFP.

Comment #63I canāt see why Nunez wouldnāt join us. He will have seen how weāve performed since January. We have been on a trajectory, he Will have been provided and sold the new project, also who else we will be wanting to sign. Shown video clips of a bouncing SJP with the wor flags in full flow⦠The South American connection at the club will be a huge factor so he can settle quickly.
I think our owners can sell a vision a dream. Look at Bruno? He joined when we were certs to be relegated. This guy is World Class and still fully got onboard the project.
We will definitely be getting many top signings in the summer, so we will get Nunez. He would have the potential to be a great legend at our club and I have no doubt itās all been sold to him and he is on his way in the summer along with other top end signings. Paqueta really excites me, he is a baller of a player to which weāve not seen since Rob Leeā¦Itās gonna be a lottery in the summer. Where we will get all the numbers and the bonus ball.

Comment #72Wouldnāt be surprised if Howe earns himself a nice little bonus for his fantastic work. That or a new improved contract. Not only has he saved us from relegation, heās saved the new owners the trouble of a season in the championship and pushing their plans back at least a year. I bet theyāre delighted!

Newcastle hoped they could make an attempt to sign Frenkie De Jong this summer, as Barcelona look to cash in on the Netherlands international before his value depreciates further.
It now appears Man Utd lead the race for his signature, but nothing is close just yet. #MUFC #NUFC
