We are finally mathematically safe after Leeds were defeated 3-0 at home by Chelsea last night, and thanks mainly to Eddie Howe and his staff for saving Newcastle this season.
But of course it was a United effort by everyone involved at Newcastle, a United club once more.
It’s been a magnificent achievement by the Newcastle community, and we are the first club in the Premier League to stay up after not recording a win in the first 14 games of a season.
Eddie Howe and his staff came in during early November when we had 5 points from our first 11 games and after taking around 6 weeks to get things sorted out, we climbed the league earlier this year like an express train.
Period Of Season | Played | Won | Lost | Drew | GF | GA | GD | Points |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
First Half of Season 2021 | 19 | 1 | 10 | 8 | 19 | 42 | -23 | 11 |
League Games in 2022 | 18 | 11 | 5 | 2 | 23 | 19 | 4 | 35 |
37 | 12 | 15 | 10 | 42 | 61 | -19 | 46 |
In the 17 league games in 2022, we have 10 wins and 32 points, and after losing our last two games to two of the world’s top teams, Liverpool and Manchester City, we have a chance to finish the season off with another two wins.
They are against Arsenal next Monday night in our final home game and Burnley away on Sunday, May 22nd.
Eddie Howe and his team have been instrumental in getting the best out of the players we already had at the club, and he got everybody super-fit quickly.
And the January transfer window was a real highlight, with Kieran Trippier, Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes, Matt Targett, and Chris Wood coming in and strengthening the team – especially our defense.
All the players have done their part in rising to the challenge set by Howe, and the owners have been so very supportive, especially when things didn’t look too good at the end of last year.
And last but of course not least, the Newcastle fans have shown how they are the best in the business, with Wor Flags deserving credit for the magnificent flag displays at the rejuvenated St. James’ Park.
It’s been a task that’s not quite complete because we need two wins to finish off what’s turned out to be a fantastic second half of the season.
But we can take a little time to bask in that winning spirit, it’s been a long time coming since Sir Bobby Robson left the club in August 2004.
It really is upward and onward from now on at a United Newcastle.

The owners and Eddie will keep their cards very close to their chests but just keep the faith they will do the right things this summer because they will.
There is no change whatsoever that Eddie or the owners would reveal their plans to any of us or the media.
Staveley always said their aim is to be right at the top, so just believe in that and keep the faith.

Comment #14I’ve got the feeling that ToF is going to whine, bitch and snipe at everything the club and Eddie H does under the pretence of not following the crowd and “having his own opinion” when the real reason is because he just loves to whine, bitch and snipe at everything in life in general 🙂

Comment #17I’m personally going to miss…
“we have some irons in the fire”
“we couldn’t get it over the line”
“we can’t compete financially with [insert any club here]”
“[rubbish injured player] will be like a new signing”
oh wait… I won’t miss that at all

Comment #18Amazing effort by everyone connected.
Players, coaches and the board.
Astonishing time to be a NUFC supporter and quite unbelievable at was has unfolded but most importantly at least we now have hope for the future.
I really hope these players that have secured our future get given a chance rather than random names that wouldn’t have even given us a second look before the takeover.

During the dark times, when sometimes I have been furious, I wanted Dr Ed to publish some really harsh statements about the former owners but he reamined level headed and and I think that’s part of his duties to guide the Geordies masses and now we are entering the light and we have come through with dignity and integrity.

Comment #30Mund – yeah it was a superb goal. But I struggle to see him replicating that anytime soon. If he is replaced I won’t be too fussed as we can do better. He doesn’t contribute enough in assists nor goals sadly. His work rate is second to none though. I don’t know who I would prefer we replce him or Murphy. But at least one of them would need to go I believe.

Aye I agree with all that mate. Shame as I’d love him to of been a success but he just doesn’t have that intelligence and you need to be a quick decision maker in the English league as you get no time to think and he suffers with that the most.

Comment #37Goal Linton @ 18. I wholeheartedly agree with your comments about the amazing job everyone has done at the Toon and they all deserve the biggest praise but please don’t let’s get carried away by wanting all (or most of) our players to stay instead of ‘random names’ coming in.
Remember these players recently have been beaten 5-0 against Spurs and Man City as well as being totally outclassed against Liverpool – teams we have to try and close the gap against.
We now have the owners and the money and ambition – we can’t be standing still. Upwards and onwards.
