Saudi Golf Federation CEO Appointed As NUFC Director

Newcastle have appointed Majed Al Sorour, the CEO of Saudi Golf Federation, as a director. He is also an advisor to the Saudi Public Investment Fund, whose Governor, Yasir Al-Rumayyan is also on Newcastle’s board of directors.

The Mail is confirming the appointment which was recorded on the latest Companies House filing. Al Sorour has been spotted at St. James’ Park with Al-Rumayyan during his visits this season.

The Mail also confirmed that Newcastle’s away kit for next season will be white with green trim, which is similar to the Saudi National Football team. The Saudis did qualify for the 2022 World Cup, which will take place toward the end of this year.

There has been some criticism of Newcastle’s apparent decision to adopt the white and green shirt for next season. However, it seems a relevant color scheme due to PIF’s stake in the club.

Newcastle have yet to announce any new sponsorship deals. In an interview in November, Amanda Staveley revealed that the then-Premier League moratorium on related-party sponsorship deals was holding things up saying:

“It is in the Premier League’s hands, but we will be seeking to do sponsorship deals as fast as possible. The moratorium does not stop us from working on them, getting ready for that time now. So it is really important.

“Our concern is that the process the Premier League do is quick enough so after we close the moratorium we can get sponsorships out. Obviously, that’s a really important part of the process.”

However, no sponsorship deals have been announced but we can likely expect some before the start of the next campaign as Newcastle build toward an exciting future.

Clint @76, yep that’s them, they now have 4 national papers with left views and 4 with right views.

I suppose that’s called covering the bases 😀

And yes the other Directors/Mandy can help find sponsors, but the CEO runs the ship and is in the weeds. He needs to be hands on and in my opinion experienced in sourcing, negotiating and getting the deals over the line and maximising value.

A director like the Golf guy already has a full time job! He could refer people he knows but the CEO still has a lot of work to do. And Mandy/Ghodoussi have their own business to run and can’t fully focus on Newcastle forever. They’ll do a lot, just not to this level permanently.

cleveleysbob – the idea that a NEWSpaper has left-wing views or right-wing views seems totally stupid to me by the way. I like my news to report the actual news including facts and relevant opinions from suitable experts. Bloody ridiculous these days that many papers either seem like far right or looney left…

Just like in football, I’m bored hearing the analysis of a pundit who knows nothing other than how to kick a football from when he was a half decent midfielder.

Tarkowski is just paper stuff good for wiping your…. Not for us. We can and must do better.
The new shirt just looks a little pale and underwhelming. Hopefully it will look better once it’s done up a bit.
Politics of the shirt? See my opening comment.

TDS @83 – couldn’t agree more, that’s partly why printed newspapers are going down the drain, they pander to a bunch of extremist views on either side of the spectrum and don’t just report the news anymore, it’s all “opinions”.

At one time that was reserved for the “editorial” page, now it’s rife throughout all aspects of journalism, and the TV news channels are the worst.

GBNews is probably the most “balanced”, but they wander off sometimes too.

    Ginola,

We don’t know the Saudi golf bloke’s input yet. Whether he’s got a full time job is irrelevant the way they are happy to delegate authority!

Having said that we don’t know what any of the roles are as yet. Amanda has studied the Citeh model she says, they might be going a different route with regard to who does what. Amanda might actually remain full time.

It’s not clear mate, think we might need an Amanda interview with Keith Downie 😆

cleveleysbob – GBNews is a LONG way away from being balanced mate, it’s not even close. Putting that firmly in the far right camp for one that I don’t bother with. You don’t get much further right than that in terms of anything considered part of the mainstream media.

I think the big problem is that the right have shifted further right in recent years but the left haven’t really moved that much. When you compare the left to Neil Kinnock’s days, they seem to have moved to the centre but when you compare the right to John Major’s days, they’ve definitely moved a lot further right.

I would imagine he has already assembled a host of sponsors prior to his directorship. Informed of the level of investment needed in the short/medium term to provide its outcome. The likes of Michael Edwards and Dan Ashworth will be knitting into the plan and all following a plan to bring success. Dan and Michael will probably have been beavering away out of the spotlight, plotting and scheming the great heist. The Saudi’s do not like to lose.

CLINT – Isn’t The Mirror considered left wing? I don’t read it either as I consider it trash but I think it’s considered left wing anyway. Most other left leaning papers are just left of centre, I’d agree. Which is a little different compared to the Daily Mail and Express…

Ok let’s see what happens with the CEO, I’d still say Michael Edwards wouldn’t be my choice for that role

We do know the role of Makes El Sarour (Golf Saudi CEO) – he is a member of the board of Directors so an advisory/oversight role basically

Who are we supposed to be signing today?

Tarkowksi would be a pointless signing. Little, if any, upgrade on what we have. Not young enough for Howe to develop and improve. Not a ball playing CB and so does align with Howe’s clear vision. (Note how quickly Schar WAS extended for that very reason). I am expecting and hoping for a younger ball playing CB. This isn’t the Ashley era any longer.

IMO if we replace Lascelles we should be aiming at replacing him with someone much better…not marginally better otherwise whats the point?

All upgrades should be considerable upgrades as a point of principle and to ensure we get to to our end game as quick as possible…no point in half measures

    IMO

    Yours sincerely

    Ginola,

Aye, the Saudi golf bloke will do what any member of any board of directors do. I just wonder what he brings as board members normally bring expertise in the specific area. He grew the Saudi golf brand right enough, attracted elite players to tourneys. Football might be a deviation for him, but growing a sports brand remains at the core I suppose.

I know what you’re saying on Edwards, bit risky training him on the job, surely someone has been advising Amanda up to now. Wonder why they don’t want the job.

cleveleysbob – Personally I think that if someone like GB News pitches itself as right wing media and the UK’s Fox News, then they’re going to attract right wing and far right wing viewers. It makes sense that the far right wouldn’t like it as not all presenters are straight, white, males… 😉 Just because the far right are criticising something for not being far right enough, doesn’t mean it’s balanced in my opinion…

Are we still doing left versus right ffs give it a rest and have a chicken wing instead, as someone said earlier the pif is the investment fund of Saudi Arabia so if they want to pay homage to their nation, it’s their club and they can do what they want with it, having the same colour strip as the nation team doesn’t disprove separation it merely displays national pride
