Howe Responds To Taking Transfer Suggestions From His Players

A couple of very popular Magpies gave interviews recently in which they were asked which players they would like to see join Newcastle. Bruno Guimaraes named former Lyon teammate and fellow Brazilian Lucas Paqueta while Allan Saint-Maximin said Nantes attacker Ludovic Blas.

Guimaraes’s friendship with Paqueta, who has been on Newcastle’s radar since January, is well chronicled. Saint-Maximin has revealed that he has a strong friendship with his compatriot Blas, who was also linked in the last window.

This is what Allan told Goal.com when asked who he would sign for Newcastle:

“The coach has a well-defined idea of what he needs for his team. If I had to choose, it would be the heart that would speak. I would most certainly want my friends to join the club.

“I’m thinking for example of Ludovic Blas. I really like the person and what he also does at Nantes. He’s scored a lot of goals. He’s an essential element at Nantes… I know that Bruno is very fond of Paqueta.”

Allan even mentioned Bruno’s friendship with Paqueta in his response. Both Blas and Paqueta are very skillful attacking midfielders with Paqueta likely the more appealing target for Newcastle.

Paqueta is a full Brazilian international with 31 caps and still just 24 years old. Blas, also 24, is a former French U20 international with an impressive 32 goals for Nantes in just over 100 appearances.

In the wake of Bruno’s and Allan’s suggestions, Newcastle World asked Howe about whether he would take suggestions from his players on future signings. This was his response:

“I have signed players from many different sources over the years.

“I’ve never cut off any recommendation from anybody. But of course, I’d have to go through the right process of watching and analyzing the player to see if he’s right for the team.

“I’m aware of Bruno’s relationship, not just with him (Lucas Paqueta) but many of his ex-players.

“Certainly, it helps to have players play at the very highest level because those relationships and opinions can be very valuable.”

Yeah agreed. Taking everything else away from the kit like the Saudi ties and press response etc, just looking at the kit as it is and how it looks, just isn’t exciting or anything. Don’t think it looks smart, good quality or remotely interesting or exciting. If it’s the kit it’s just a bit underwhelming is all.

Tom…let them look for a reason.
If they try and use just say the Yemen war as a reason, well there are 6 or 7 countries involved in that including the USA, Great Britain and France.
Plus it is not an invasion like what is happening in Ukraine.
It’s still very wrong all war is but it’s not the same.
I have a feeling as Mund said we have a lot of dirt on all of them.

We have to accept that other fans are going to hate us. But in my opinion thats fine. They can hate all they want. The only reason they do hate us, is because we are now a threat and because they are jealous. So I would much rather they hate us, instead of good old, soft Newcastle they can always take points off.

TBH this is a major PR step – its a massive statement by the club. Its basically a flag waving exercise for Saudi by PIF and is basically saying –
” As you know, we are one and the same – we’re here and we are going to wear Saudi colours – go deal with it”

I think it may turn out to be a gaffe, but to me it looks like a massive two fingers from the PIF to the Premier League and quite out of sync with the quiet work Amanda and Co are doing in the background to build a name for themselves. It certainly doesnt help people trying to argue that we are not owned by the Saudi govt.

I think its a really interesting development.

Assuming the shirt etc is accurate, which I said last night to be the case, in my opinion.

Are you serious? You’d criticise the media and others for making a big deal about our THIRD strip using the same colours as the country that our owners are from, yet here several of you are making a big deal of it???

If our owners were Brazilian and they made our 3rd strip the same famous Brazilian yellow, would that mean we’re owned by the Brazilian government? Absolute waffle. It means absolutely nothing and anyone who makes out that it does won’t be taken seriously by anyone with half a brain.

The PIF is Saudi, nobody questions that, just as nobody questions that Disney is American.

I think Amanda will not give to f..ks if this is our new away kit colours.
It will make the Club a shed load of money from sales of the shirt in KSA .
She is more than happy to be associated with KSA and has spoken very well about the Country.

The Ledge – that’s another valid point. If the colours of the shirt help generate lots of shirt sales in the country that the owners are from, what’s the harm? As I mentioned Brazil before, wouldn’t we expect Brazilian owners to want to generate some Brazilian supporters in their own country? You’d certainly expect there to be interest from KSA football fans in our club now, so what’s the harm in harnessing that?

TOMT… Man Utd are going to take our old role in the league from the period after Robson (RIP) left. And Liverpool would feel that their window of opportunity to take 1st are closing in with City probably winning this year and in 3-4 years will have to go through us first as well. With an aging team, they can probably see the writing on the wall.

Tbh mate, they’ve found new and interesting (?) ways to build ugly/biased/lazy narratives against us for…well, since forever, haven’t they?
If it’s not; kk’s ‘outburst’, bobby’s senile, why do we hate ashley, Rafa’s too defensive, what’s wrong with bruce? Deluded fans, crap new owners… it’s endless…
They’ll find any excuse to have a go.
We can’t live our lives worrying too much about what others think, in fact, if the ‘others’ in question are media hacks looking for clicks by using us as a start point/scratching post…it kinda weakens their stance, hey?
We’re not a big club, so they say, so why all the attention?
Why, even at our shittest, do sly sports still pay us millions a year to show more of our games than most other teams? …then there’s the constant stream of online articles…

    Whatever we think/do/say… they’re gonna hate…
…on that level, nowt to do with who owns the club, how it’s run…whatever!

Best just think; ah! F@#£ ’em, and move on!
    😀

Their opinion means nothing unless people give it the attention it doesn’t deserve.
