Mark Lawrenson has given his predictions for this weekend’s Premier League matches. He has Newcastle ending the losing streak with a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at St. James’ Park on Monday.
Here is some of Lawro’s take on the match:
Arsenal endured a horrible night in Thursday’s north London derby, but they cannot afford to dwell on what went wrong for them against Spurs.
It’s typical Arsenal, really, because they always seem to get themselves in a good position but whenever something goes against them, they just seem to collapse. At times this season, it has looked like they have become stronger mentally – but they haven’t.
They are under pressure now, too. If Spurs beat Burnley on Sunday, and I think they will, then Arsenal will have to win at St James’ Park or fourth place will be out of their hands on the final day of the season.
We all know how much Newcastle have improved in the past few months, and they have been very strong at St. James’ Park. Beating them there is a very big ask.
Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat at Tottenham last night has really put them to the grindstone for their final two matches. They hold a shaky one-point advantage over Spurs for that coveted final Champions League place.
The resurgent Spurs take on Burnley at home on Sunday before a trip to Norwich City on the season’s final day. Arsenal cannot afford a slip-up on Monday at St. James’ Park, or they risk losing control of their destiny.
Newcastle fans care little about Arsenal’s plight with much left to accomplish this season. A win and we surpass last season’s points total which would be an unbelievable accomplishment considering how this season began.
The Magpies will hope to finish this campaign on the upswing after the minor hiccups of the past two weeks. A place in the top ten is still a possibility before closing the curtains on this transformational season.

Yes mate.
Soon as i saw him, i thought, mmmmm, he would drive to the goal line and look for a team mate. He actually looks for his mates, tries to create, direct, industrious and slick.

Comment #13I’d been in Australia from 99 to 2004 and that was the year I realised the FA cup had lost its magic. It was a Saturday morning and we’d got a job and knock, when we finished I thought we’d all rush to the pub to watch it all happening as I had done pre 99. No-one was interested, Man U Millwall and when I got to the boozer there was hardly anyone there all day. Those words from Wor B describing FA cup day are a distant memory.

Yeah, it went on for hours. Had film crews on the fan trains and stuff. It used to be much bigger than it is now.

So you remember some of that?
I think the lameness of the punditry is a massive turn off now… i can’t put myself thru it. I just end up muting, then the picture’s nonsensical.

ASM best assist was the one against Bournemouth away end of the 19/20 season.
Feinting to pass backwards before turning and accelerating past the defender to the byline and picking out Longstaff to stroke home first time. Looked so simple.
Sadly that kind of imagination and physical capability to show a clean pair of heels is a rare sight now.
He shows glimpses like against Everton, where you think he’s finally back to his explosive best, but then becomes lacklustre again for a long string of matches.
Has to be a mental thing.

I think with players like that…if they want to, really want to, drop their wage demands to get a move…then yea. Shows willing.
But, if it’s just, we’re flavour of the decade, or whatever, and represent a continuation of mental wages…then fat na!
We need to set a precedent for the new way of doing things… no being held ransom or any of the old ways of dealing etc.
Does that make sense?
