Pundit Expects Pressure To Play A Role In Monday’s Match At St. James’ Park

Mark Lawrenson has given his predictions for this weekend’s Premier League matches. He has Newcastle ending the losing streak with a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at St. James’ Park on Monday.

Here is some of Lawro’s take on the match:

Arsenal endured a horrible night in Thursday’s north London derby, but they cannot afford to dwell on what went wrong for them against Spurs.

It’s typical Arsenal, really, because they always seem to get themselves in a good position but whenever something goes against them, they just seem to collapse. At times this season, it has looked like they have become stronger mentally – but they haven’t.

They are under pressure now, too. If Spurs beat Burnley on Sunday, and I think they will, then Arsenal will have to win at St James’ Park or fourth place will be out of their hands on the final day of the season.

We all know how much Newcastle have improved in the past few months, and they have been very strong at St. James’ Park. Beating them there is a very big ask.

Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat at Tottenham last night has really put them to the grindstone for their final two matches. They hold a shaky one-point advantage over Spurs for that coveted final Champions League place.

The resurgent Spurs take on Burnley at home on Sunday before a trip to Norwich City on the season’s final day. Arsenal cannot afford a slip-up on Monday at St. James’ Park, or they risk losing control of their destiny.

Newcastle fans care little about Arsenal’s plight with much left to accomplish this season. A win and we surpass last season’s points total which would be an unbelievable accomplishment considering how this season began.

The Magpies will hope to finish this campaign on the upswing after the minor hiccups of the past two weeks. A place in the top ten is still a possibility before closing the curtains on this transformational season.

Mmmm, freshly cut grass. An aroma to fill your heart with joy.

Hmmm, Old fermenting cut grass. An ingredient for a home-made explosive device.

Which is nearer to Mr Tuff?

I think the reason the Cup Final used to be such an esteemed game was because it was the last game of the season and, more importantly, it was the only live game you saw on TV (apart from internationals) but of course now we have a few live games every week.
The build-up started in the morning with Cup Final ‘It’s a knockout’ and ‘Question of sport’ until eventually the game started and I used to watch it all.
I’ll probably still watch the match but now it’s just another live game!

Good to hear the Robledo brothers get a mention on The One Show tonight, the first South Americans to play in an FA Cup final and George being the first SA to score in a final , !952 v Arsenal

Apparently agents have been instructed by NUFC to enquire about Romelu Lukaku once Chelsea ownership is complete
Nufc want to take him on a season long loan with the option to buy

No response players club player or his agent but there’s going to be discussions held in the future

One to watch the press should pick up on it soon

Kasper Schemical or Dean Henderson are the goal keepers we are looking at.

It’s increasingly unlikely Eddie Nketiah will stay at Arsenal – #WHUFC, #NUFC, #EFC and #CPFC all chasing.

Liverpool and Chelsea also monitoring situation – 22 y/o could provide attractive squad depth option.

With 2 game weeks remaining, NY Mag is 6 points clear, but theoretically can be caught by banana.

The Top ten are promotion candidates, so there’s an interesting wedge mid-table.

Well done to ZG for achieving the 2nd top score in the division. Unfortunate for davo who caught Wor B on one of his lucky weeks.

It’s Ashingtoon’s to lose with 2 game weeks remaining.

    Boring explanation…

A teleprinter and its associated telegraph network needs to transmit / receive and reproduce every character on a QWERTY keyboard. The ‘fox’ message contains all the characters.

When errors were reported on a teleprinter line or telex network, engineers would often investigate by sending the ‘fox’ message back and forth from various locations to find the cause and location of the fault.

WorB Good explanation. Having worked in the telco industry for most of my working life I appreciated that. In fact I remember following the World Cup in 1966 on teletype because that’s all we had at the time. Never saw the game.
The FA cup was the only football game I could watch (in Canada) as it was shown on our national network. It was a big deal in those days. It started in the morning right through to the medals presentation. It was a prestigious tournament back then.
