Pundit Expects Pressure To Play A Role In Monday’s Match At St. James’ Park

Mark Lawrenson has given his predictions for this weekend’s Premier League matches. He has Newcastle ending the losing streak with a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at St. James’ Park on Monday.

Here is some of Lawro’s take on the match:

Arsenal endured a horrible night in Thursday’s north London derby, but they cannot afford to dwell on what went wrong for them against Spurs.

It’s typical Arsenal, really, because they always seem to get themselves in a good position but whenever something goes against them, they just seem to collapse. At times this season, it has looked like they have become stronger mentally – but they haven’t.

They are under pressure now, too. If Spurs beat Burnley on Sunday, and I think they will, then Arsenal will have to win at St James’ Park or fourth place will be out of their hands on the final day of the season.

We all know how much Newcastle have improved in the past few months, and they have been very strong at St. James’ Park. Beating them there is a very big ask.

Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat at Tottenham last night has really put them to the grindstone for their final two matches. They hold a shaky one-point advantage over Spurs for that coveted final Champions League place.

The resurgent Spurs take on Burnley at home on Sunday before a trip to Norwich City on the season’s final day. Arsenal cannot afford a slip-up on Monday at St. James’ Park, or they risk losing control of their destiny.

Newcastle fans care little about Arsenal’s plight with much left to accomplish this season. A win and we surpass last season’s points total which would be an unbelievable accomplishment considering how this season began.

The Magpies will hope to finish this campaign on the upswing after the minor hiccups of the past two weeks. A place in the top ten is still a possibility before closing the curtains on this transformational season.

On the leaked away kit I like the white with green trim but the design needs work looks a bit bland although when the sponsor goes on it might look better but I just hope to God its not with green shorts

Take a photo together and make a commemorative certificate “On this day….”, frame them to mark the occasion?

I see Boubacar Kamara is still set to leave Marseille for free.

Surely we’ve got to be on that?

Even if you have to give him a £15m-£20m signing on fee. You’re getting a player who would otherwise cost you at least £30m right now and has potential to be £50m+.

Who gives f@ck what our away strip looks like. Ignore all the outrage, just like our TO. Ignore it all, it will go away. Ffs if the PIF want us to go the colours of their nation then so what?

It’s outrageous and laughable. Nigel Farage has an issue with our potential new away strip and rambled on about it on GBnews 😆 I rest my case. Makes me want it even more now.

I see a few on here have issues with is potent going for Tarkowski. I’m not so sure we are, however if we are then in Eddie we trust.

I am going to be perfectly honest here, I was very underwhelmed by the Burn signing. I was a little underwhelmed by Eddie’s appointment. Therefore, what will be, will be I won’t be underwhelmed again and be short sighted. What do I know compared to the very professional football savvy people running the Club and squad. If Tarkowski came in then I’ll give him a chance as it will more than likely be the right choice if we are underwhelmed or not.

Fenham I found the whole thing very revealing. Yes we want to sell shirts in Saudi, but apparently the money we make from that won’t be that huge. But it looks like Amanda and the PIF are flying a flag for Saudi and saying ‘up yours’, to all the people who hate Saudi 🙂

Let’s say it was done on purpose and preplanned…

    So what…?

What’s wrong with our main and majority owners PIF with our chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan wanting to use one of our kits for a representation of who they are and were they come from? Absolutely nothing…

As we’ve seen all day many other examples of clubs with their kits being very similar to the owners national team strips.

It’s unbelievable the amount of hypocrisy and very clear agenda driven, jealousy, salty and bitterness moves by these so called professionals who are using these platforms as a tool to spread hate and twist minds.

    Munster,

Evening mate. Aye, it certainly looks that way doesn’t it. They (our great owners) will be chuckling away to themselves, especially when we start tearing up the league (very soon) which will be a juggernaut that NOBODY will or are able to stop. They/those that stood up and opposed it, they all know it, they are jealous, scared, envious, and it is showing. They are green and sickened with envy…

They tried to stop the TO and they failed, so they will step aside as the KSA swipe the lot of them away with absolute ease… Nothing will stop us. However, what we must do is laugh at all the saltiness shown towards us. It’s quite embarrassing. Makes it even more enjoyable when you really think about it. We must never let these toxic fools get to us. That ship sailed a long time ago with me. As soon as the TO went through. That was it happy days, we’ve done it. We are there and enjoy the ride and laugh at the faux outage thrown our way. As it will go away and very soon. 😉

If I accept ASM leaves, I would love for us to look like this next season:

    Trips________Schar______Burn_______Lodi
    _________________Kamara
    ____________Bruno______Joelinton
    ____Raphina__________________Fraser___
    _________________Abraham

Have Botman and Tarkwoski chomping at Schar and Burn.

Dunno about GK, we could do with one, but not sure any touted are the answer, especially likes of Henderson, not known for his ballplaying ability and don’t see him as a significant upgrade.

I’d prob go 1 more season with Dubravka.

Gives us a clear upgrade path both at GK and LW for next season, though I think Fraser would compliment somebody like Lodi really well in the meantime. He understands how to create space for others and use space created by others. Miggy too I think would impress with better players and a full pre-season to get tactics and fitness optimised.

    In:

    Botman – £30m
    Tarkoskwi – ‘free’

    Lodi – £30m

    Kamara – ‘free’

Raphina – £25m when Leeds go down

    Abraham – £60m

Total – £165m-ish with signing on fees.

    Out:

    Darlow – £3m

    Fede – £1m
    Clark – free
    Lascelles – £10m
    Manquillo – £5m

Longstaff – free (though it will be Hayden instead for circa £10m)
    Hendrick – free

    ASM – £35m-40m

    Gayle – free

    Total – £50m-55m

    Net spend of about £100m-£115m.

    Squad of:

    Dubravka, Woodman, Gillespie

    Trippier, Krafth
    Lodi, Lewis,

    Schar, Burn, Botman, Tarkowksi

Kamara, Bruno, Joelinton, Shelvey, Willock, Hayden

    Raphina, Murphy, Fraser, Almiron

    Abraham, Wilson, Wood,

    25th man – Dummett

Ritchie can stay for his final year and start joining in with the coaching set-up.

That’s the last Kets type (realistic unlike him) fantasy list I will be doing this summer. Promise……. 🙂

What I find interesting is how we can have different sponsors for different things, the main mens team sponsor (£75m/season), womens, £5m, training ground £20m, stands £20m, ground (XXX at SJP) £50m, shirt sleave £30m

    That’s £200 a season at least.

Just think about that, sponsorship can make a £310m company that PIF bought, to a £1B company in a single season.

When people talk about Howe in disparaging terms as some minnow manager, I just always point out how Klopp was only just getting into his stride at Dortmund at the same age.

Most don’t realise how young he is in managerial terms. he’s at least proven he’s not a cheque book manager with the rise of Bournemouth, nor does he or did he trade on his name to get into a top job with lots of money to begin with.

Has Zidane, Jose (since Porto), Guardiola and others ever truly been tested?

    Soon shuts them up.

He’s young enough that he and us are still discovering just how far he can go.

I was too critical when he signed, said we were still more likely than not to go down, cited his defensive woes at Bournemouth when they conceded circa 65 goals a season, but with the caveat that he clearly had been studying and learning from others in his time out, looking to improve himself and those around him like any person committed to their career does. It paid off massively. Most obviously he has definitely took more than a page out of the Simeone and Atletico book.

We did get Howe 2.0 after all and who knows where such a driven and reflective personality can go in the game? First English manager to win the PL with us – why not?

TDS, a reply to your comments to me earlier. I’m afraid you’ve fallen victim to what you claim you don’t do. A bit of independent research would have shown you that GBNews launched and heralded itself as a new independent, balanced view, reporter of news and supporter of free speech over the cancel culture, epidemic we were facing.

What you are referring to is the “outrage” of the left seeing a new outlet not following their view blindly, and labelling them extreme right wing and calling them the Fox News of Britain.

All the suggestions of them being right wing were from supporters of the left. I’m sorry you were taken in by this and maybe you should have done a little more of the research you are so fond of extolling us with before following someone else’s narrative. 😉

Apologies to everyone else, just wanted to reply rather than leave false info hanging there. 🙂

GB News are obviously very right-wing. It’s not even a debate.

What they claim to be is immaterial.

They sacked a guy for taking the knee, such is their attitude towards freedom of expression. They were too far right for Andrew Neil, editor of right-wing rag The Spectator even.

    Mund,

All good this end mate, all happy cheers mate 🙂

All I can say and think about is that they who laugh last, laugh the loudest. Oh and how we are all laughing now…Some people have got very short memories, a lot used to PTSL at us, making constant jokes about us, about our great club. We were the other supporters second team back in the entertainers days. Everyone loved us, then the fat tw@t made us into a circus. He killed the club, it was criminal, deplorable and sickening what he did. (Karma will catch up with him) We’ve risen like a phoenix from the ashes and all those f@ckers that laughed are now shittting themselves, riddled with jealousy and insecurity, and I’m now PMSL at the lot of them. The reporters, pundits, other Pisa taken cocky supporters they all have huge potions of ostrich eggs in their faces 😆

We’ve ended up with the best possible owners. We all know by now that They mean business, they know what they bought when they bought us, it was well planned, they did their homework and it has paid off and now they are going to deliver us to the top of the feeding table. It’s sickly when we have idiots calling us for having KSA colours on our third strip because of jealousy and fear, it is absolutely hilarious 😆
