Pundit Expects Pressure To Play A Role In Monday’s Match At St. James’ Park

Mark Lawrenson has given his predictions for this weekend’s Premier League matches. He has Newcastle ending the losing streak with a 1-1 draw against Arsenal at St. James’ Park on Monday.

Here is some of Lawro’s take on the match:

Arsenal endured a horrible night in Thursday’s north London derby, but they cannot afford to dwell on what went wrong for them against Spurs.

It’s typical Arsenal, really, because they always seem to get themselves in a good position but whenever something goes against them, they just seem to collapse. At times this season, it has looked like they have become stronger mentally – but they haven’t.

They are under pressure now, too. If Spurs beat Burnley on Sunday, and I think they will, then Arsenal will have to win at St James’ Park or fourth place will be out of their hands on the final day of the season.

We all know how much Newcastle have improved in the past few months, and they have been very strong at St. James’ Park. Beating them there is a very big ask.

Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat at Tottenham last night has really put them to the grindstone for their final two matches. They hold a shaky one-point advantage over Spurs for that coveted final Champions League place.

The resurgent Spurs take on Burnley at home on Sunday before a trip to Norwich City on the season’s final day. Arsenal cannot afford a slip-up on Monday at St. James’ Park, or they risk losing control of their destiny.

Newcastle fans care little about Arsenal’s plight with much left to accomplish this season. A win and we surpass last season’s points total which would be an unbelievable accomplishment considering how this season began.

The Magpies will hope to finish this campaign on the upswing after the minor hiccups of the past two weeks. A place in the top ten is still a possibility before closing the curtains on this transformational season.

Good morning all from Sunny Brampton – thinking of having a BBQ later on if the weather stays decent.

Sadly I’ll miss seeing our last home game against Arsenal but it would be great to finish our SJP fixtures with a win!

    Gan Canny my friends!

    😉

    Raj,

We don’t know for definite as it’s the reason why I used potentially in my post. However it’s an absolute knocking bet he will be joining the Toon.

Remember Amanda has many connections within LFC. The project we have will be unbelievable and if Edwards was to go anywhere, it would be to that said Project. Not RM. IMO obviously, but it is nailed on it is us
    😉

    FtC,
One of the decent Lpool lads on here was saying Stavely was sat with him a few years back at a match, so they know each other. He has to go somewhere, let’s hope he’s not leaving Lpool because he wants to live in Madrid.

It’s always difficult to divide the credit with DoFs and managers. You can never tell how much is to do with say Edwards finding great players and how much is to do with Klopp being able to get the best out of players. For example, imagine Bruce had got those players – a few would have probably rotted on the bench as he’s not one for giving players time to adapt. Then imagine Klopp had been managing Carr’s finds. Carr would probably be a lot more in demand. I’m sure with the Saudis we will be getting both ends right.

Man Utd will do well in future, now they’ve got Rangnick. He’d have been my number one choice. The Red Bull teams always find great players. It’s he whole system he set up, rather than just one maverick. Brentford are similar, but run by professional gamblers (ones that win, not Paul Merson)

Question on the third kit – is there ever a scenario we use it?

We have our away kit when somebody clashes with our home. Since nobody except referees has all black we generally change for people with white or white stripes

Why would we then wear the white kit when it is used to avoid a clash with white???

Am I missing something. So much hype from the media over something without practical use

On the shirt, at first I thought it just gives people an excuse to attack us, which it has already. They’re going to do it anyway so who cares.

I’ve said before would love if Edwards joined in a footballing role (but not as CEO, that doesn’t make sense to me)

Hard to disegregate his attribution of Liverpool’s overall on the pitch success, but his net spend, player signing choices, amazing player sale record, strength of academy, cost control on wages to revenue, and hiring and retention of Klopp can be credited to him.

By those metrics of a Sporting Director (you can look up his buying and selling and see the Curtis Jones/TAA types coming through) he has been phenomenal. If he works with Ashworth on the transfer side, amazing. But Ashworth has more track record building academies/facilities (WBA, England) and club structure (Brighton) which right now are very valuable to us

    Raj,

He would be mad to choose Madrid over sunny Newcastle upon Tyne, with its bridges, it’s architecture, it’s castles, culture heritage, it’s continuous innovation. Ham and pease pudding stotties, The city buzz on matchdays, the Geordie people providing such lovely hospitality.

Not forgetting what Northumberland has to offer.

Nah why go to crime ridden Madrid over the above, he would have had enough of crime in scouse land 😉

I was wrong about GB News…… it’s not owned by Murdoch whose very own Talk TV seems to be challenging GB News in the neutral news stakes. Both not doing very well in the impartiality stakes!

    However…….

It’s a nice day out and I’ve got things to do.

You asked why ASM don’t cut back for Willock to score anymore? Most teams adopt a simple crowd the mid and force ASM wide strategy, they hardly makes room for him to dribble into the box to shoot or cut back. That’s the only trick he does well for 2 seasons. I could see Eddie Howe getting ASM to try and cross early if he sees a wall of defenders in his path. If he do more of those far post cross, like the one at Man City. It will created more goals for the team and more space for him to work his magic as opponent need more bodies in the box to counter this. Hope ASM realise though………

With all due respect to Micky, we have one bloke saying Edwards is coming and we’re all eulogising or dreaming. No media seems to be running it. Calm down calm down as the scousers in the shell suits wud say. The other confusion is that he wasn’t a CEO there?

That is what I thought, was the green and white kit going to be available specifically for the KSA market? I still want it, especially after the scumbag that is Nigel Farage let his mouth go about it yesterday saying it’s what you get when you’ve sold your soul.

I’d buy the strip and wear it proudly. Chris it’s just a strip and as I said yesterday the hysteria surrounding it is laughable.

All the noise will go away eventually.

How good was the spurs atmosphere? Sky were saying it was the best they had heard?? Was it that good? Maybe the new ground has best acoustics cos spurs fans are no big deal. Toon Celtic Rangers Leeds Liverpool, these are the noisy boys.

Looking forward to the CEO, training ground, academy announcements, sponsors almost as much as the transfers this summer! Can’t wait for all the Ashley arrangements and loyalists to be gone and to have top class backbone
