Newcastle thought they had done a deal for 19-year-old, 6ft 2ins Reims striker Hugo Ekitike in January, but on the final day of the window, he decided to stay at Reims, so he could get more playing time.
As it turns out he’s been injured most of the time since then, and has only just returned to playing, but Newcastle have kept in contact with Reims about the striker since January.
Hugo has scored 10 goals and has 3 assists in 26 appearances for Reims this season, and is one of the best young prospects in European football.
Website 90min have again reported today that the striker is now keen to join Eddie Howe at Newcastle this summer.
Reading between the lines, it’s likely the teenager has spoken to one of the owners – probably Amanda Staveley – and also to Eddie Howe.
The young striker is now said to be excited about joining Newcastle’s revolution evolution to greatness in the summer.
He is quoted as saying he wants to join Eddie Howe, ‘and that he appreciates the fact that Howe is a big believer in his talents’.
The deal Newcastle want to strike with Reims, is a loan with an obligation to buy, so that loosens up some cash in the coming summer transfer window it helps Newcastle with Financial Fair Play rules too.
The fee is said to be around £30M.
It now seems likely that we will indeed win the race to sign this youngster – and he will get plenty of playing time next season: Eddie Howe will also be able to bring the best out of the talented young striker in the years ahead.
Hugo Ekitike would be a tremendous acquisition for Newcastle United, and once the deal is signed, we should announce it immediately.
What do you think?

Tell me mate why is it a big deal when our club does it but not when anyone else has?
Leicester, Chelsea, Sheffield United, PSG are you just name a few of clubs who have done the exact same.
Was there any uproar in France when PSG made the same moves?
I’ve never heard or read one journalist ever say anything about these clubs with doing the same but we do it and it’s WW3

Comment #4It’s 100% connected but like I said last night…
So what…?
Why can’t our majority owners have a kit who represents them and were they come from?
What’s the problem…?
There isn’t one.
It seems the only ones who have issues with it are the same ones who have issues with the club being owned by PIF

Every single one of those clubs have done the exact same.

Well, to speak of what i know, many PSG fans were upset about it. The shirt with the colours of Qatar is one of the grievance PSG’s utras express since one month.
Anyway, i don’t speak for others, just my opinion. I don’t like that, wether it is about us or all the clubs you mentionned.
I understand your point. It’s booring to see some people got a selective memory about that.
But well, i try to be honnest with myself, and i did criticize other clubs about such things in the past, so i would be an hypocrit to say otherwise when it’s about my beloved NUFC.

But no, you just want to claim nobody else cares, so why should you.

Comment #24BTW I don’t know if its been said but if you clear your browsing history by 1 hour, you can vote for Howe over and over again.
You don’t even need to click off the page, you just go straight from the vote to your history , clear all data for the past hour and click backwards, the page should reload with the options again. HWTL and lasses!

@ToonUnify
Whether we like it or not, Newcastle United is now front and centre in the firing line and will be intensely scrutinised on every detail.
All we can do is unite as a fanbase and get behind our team. The only shirt that matters is the black and white we’ve always supported. #NUFC

Comment #32It is simple for supporters on the kit issue. If you don’t like it, don’t buy it. I am left of centre and do not like some of the RSA’s rules and actions. However, I have welcomed their involvement in my club and it would be hypocritical to complain about the shirt now. They will sell a lot of shirts in their own country which will keep our owners happy. Yes, the usual suspects will complain. They have every right to. However much we decry it money talks more than ever in our game.

Comment #35Go to the vote page, then Click the 3 dots, then History, then click “clear browsing data” then only tick “cookies and data” it makes it that much faster of a process as the other boxes are not needed. Then a pop up box will come up, click clear, wait the 3-4 seconds amd then hit the X at the top right of the screen. This brings you back to the vote page, once back hit refresh and you can vote again.
It sounds long winded but it’s really not, I’m.dowm to 10 seconds each time now.
