Newcastle Make Preliminary Contact For Portuguese International But Price Is High – Report

A report last week claimed Newcastle were preparing a £15m bid for Manchester United’s Dean Henderson. The 25-year-old has been the only goalkeeping target to hit the headlines in recent weeks.

However, claims are emerging from Portugal of another potential contender. Sport Witness has compiled a few reports that Porto’s Diogo Costa has hit Newcastle’s radar.

The 22-year-old wrestled the number one gloves from Agustin Marchesin last summer after a couple of years as his backup. He was outstanding for the Liga Portugal champions conceding just 22 times with 15 clean sheets in the league.

Costa has risen through the Porto ranks to become one of their stars. He broke into the Portuguese national team in October and is their current number one with 4 caps, including a 1-1 draw at Spain on Thursday.

There is one glaring issue with this link. Costa has a €60m release clause and signed a new contract to 2026 last fall. Newcastle have made preliminary contact with Porto but they are unwilling to come down from his high release clause.

Costa is probably a player Newcastle are keeping track of. Henderson is the number one target should Newcastle try to add a goalkeeper this summer. That will depend on whether Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman can be offloaded.

Mark Douglas reported yesterday that Newcastle are currently targeting four players in Hugo Ekitike, Moussa Diaby, Sven Botman, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. A deal for Ekitike is very close.

There is work to do on the other three with Calvert-Lewin looking like a very distant prospect. There is also a claim from calciomercato’s Daniele Longo on Twitter that Botman prefers AC Milan, who will decide next week whether to bring him in or allocate funds elsewhere.

Has anyone heard from Jail since tropical storm Mund ripped through his hotel complex yesterday/night ?

The reports are that Storm Mund was a big puff of wind that was relentless and wouldn’t waiver or rest and kept huffing and puffing through the night. Hopefully it didn’t cause too much damage,

The above repost was needed as it is worrying that we’ve not heard from Jail since Tropical Mund hit Miami yesterday.

ZG – if we sign someone young with huge potential, we won’t be looking to sell them on for millions, they’ll be a star for the Toon for years to come!

    Peter,

I do understand time differences around the world mate, like you I’m travelled. However Jail stopped posting @14:46hrs yesterday (Miami Time)…

He always starts his breakfast club at 05:30hrs. As it is now 06:10hrs. Is he on the missing list. Has Tropical Storm Mund done damage? 😉

Newcastle are continuing to hold talks with Manchester United over a deal for goalkeeper Dean Henderson. An agreement over whether it will be a loan deal or permanent move still yet to be decided. #NUFC

Bit of a marathon yesterday on an unfamiliar course, up at 6, home for midnight. 9 hole Texas scramble am, then 18 hole stableford pm. My buddy got 2nd in the afternoon with 39 points, so yes, we spent a little bit of time in the 19th. 😉

Wor B, that was a lot of golf taking in 19th. My best was 23 points on a 9 hole course. Last hole par 4 ..good drive then 3 7 iron into green, Topped it and it went like a missle, missed one of my friends by inches as he carried his beer behind the green, clattered into the beer barrel area, bounced out and left me a 2ft putt. plus £50. I was made to spend that due to outrageous luck

lower your h/c harder it is to score points. You can’t really improve but a 20 h/c can have a good day

by the way. It was Strawberry Hill Golf Club in Twickenham. I .used to live 100 or so yards away. so an easy walk home. Never a member as too easy a course, very flat like Munich courses. It was a Hackers day out 24 turned out usually, give or take, but we took our membership out as a group, got 40/50% off membership fees. 40 odd players will join your club… What is your best offer?

There are reports that the tropical storm Mund has now calmed, Peter Has just received a picture confirming that Mund is at present sat in the bar with Jail and NYmag with nothing more than his Joelinton Tropical Shirt and Alan Shearer super duper underpants.

The storm has calmed to a very slight North Easterly breeze no stronger than a fart. All ends well :
    😉
