Another week is coming to a close without any imminent breakthroughs in the transfer market. Newcastle have just one senior signing on board as Matt Targett’s purchase option was triggered last week.
Two potential deals are currently at a standstill. It’s unclear what’s going on with Sven Botman but Hugo Ekitike is apparently stalling on his move to Tyneside due to interest from other clubs.
Dortmund has been consistently credited with an interest in Ekitike. A report from RMC Sport in France now claims PSG have signaled their interest in the Frenchman.
Reims striker Hugo Ekitike (19) is stalling over a move to Newcastle, despite a fee and contract being agreed, as PSG enter talks. (RMC)https://t.co/JVFM8cGATI
— Get French Football News (@GFFN) June 17, 2022
PSG are undergoing some changes and have recently hired Luis Campos as sporting director. They are also in the process of replacing manager Mauricio Pochettino with Nice’s Christophe Galtier.
The report suggests an official move for Ekitike will be delayed until the new manager is in place. If the young striker is waiting for PSG to make their intentions clear, that could drag this process out indefinitely.
Personal terms and a fee have been agreed upon according to this report. That has also been reported by local journalists, who believe Ekitike is keen on coming to Tyneside.
PSG have also been linked with Sven Botman in the French press. There doesn’t appear to be too much in that at the moment. So hopefully, that turns out to be the case for Ekitike as well.

Football is a revolving door mate so I don’t get how we will look bad…? What because we didn’t get in two targets during two windows? They should be commended not looked bad on.

Comment #46Ofc the owners will be having a say and be in constant communication with Ashworth.
It’s called being a team.
The owners did incredible in January without Ashworth and will of been working on targets since then which was also without Ashworth.
Ashworth will take a lot of the weight from them with his expertise and professionalism but it will be a team effort not solely on Ashworths shoulders

Well in simple terms we will have attempted something twice and not succeeded twice. Which is seen as more of a bad thing, than good thing, right?
I’m by no means knocking our attempts and it’s great we’re trying to get these type of players. But it still wouldn’t exactly be a great look to try twice and not succeed twice.
We will sign players who are just as good if not better though, which is the main thing 🙂 It’s not like these 2 players will define our window if they do or don’t come.

Comment #51The reports are no doubt false as Eddie and the owners have talked about having the right players with the right attitude and mentality and I truly believe if they are getting messed about or have been they would of walked away as that doesn’t fit in their plan of who we want to bring in.

Comment #52I’m sorry… Hugo Ekitike is waiting for PSG?!
Look, I’m all for backing yourself and believing you’re the best at what you do but if this kid thinks he’s getting in ahead of Mbappe, Neymar and Messi… GOOD. LUCK. WITH. THAT. KIDDO.
Dortmund are a great club at developing youth and selling them on to bigger clubs so I can see the appeal there… however, I’d like to think Bruno’s signing should be showing these players what they can be here; heroes adored by hundreds of thousands of fans.
If that doesn’t float your boat… thanks for the chat, let’s look elsewhere.

Comment #56It’s a shame that most of our transfer business is conducted in the media over a protracted period of time, whoever our owners are. Why can’t we just announce deals within a week, like Villa. As Hibbit says, perhaps we have some being worked that the media have no knowledge of, and all this press BS is exactly that, BS. It’s frustrating, but what I do know is that we’ll have a much better squad come 6/8, as Bills said. But the signings need to be of a calibre that’s meets the expectations of players we already have like Bruno, or he’ll be off in 2 years.

Well we will just to agree to disagree on this point. I commend their attempts to bring them and their targeting of such players. But I don’t think trying twice and not succeeding twice would be a good thing. That in my eyes is definitely more of a negative than a positive.
It ultimately doesn’t matter in the grand scheme though. Whether they sign or not, we will have a great window and be delighted when the window shuts. We’ll have a better squad for next season and that’s all that really matters 🙂

Comment #62I’m not worried about all these journalists stories, if they don’t want to come then don’t.
Man City only signed one player on there first transfer window, we signed 5.
Then they signed Bridge, Bellamy, Shay, Nigel de Jong on there second window.
That’s three players that played in the premier and British.
Man City are the blue print for us, three to five year plan, enjoy the ride Toon Army and remember, the wicked witch is dead ( Ashley ).

Comment #63What does baffle me is the assumption that because we have wealthy owners we’re going to pay over the odds.
Guess what, Liverpool have wealthy owners and yet they’re constantly able to bring players in at market rate. Diaz is a classic example, the rumour is Liverpool were quoted something stupid for the player so walked away. Then Spurs negotiated a much lower price and Diaz’s agent alerted Liverpool to this who immediately matched the offer and signed him from under Spurs’ nose.
This is the way to do it and my hope is it’s exactly what we’re doing. If Botman and Ekitike fancy going to a big famous club where I doubt they will get much game time and could well see their careers stagnate that is their prerogative, I will not lose sleep over not signing a player of that ilk.
I want the Bruno’s and Trippier’s of this world, players who look at this project, this club, these fans and go “wow, to be part of that, to be in at the beginning and worshipped the way they do Joelinton… I’d like that please!”

I think any club that actively went after a player on more than one occasion only to not get them would have egg on their face a bit, yes. Only for that particular transfer though. Doesn’t mean the club as a whole looks bad, or their owners look bad etc etc. I just think personally that any club that failed in multiple attempts to sign a player would have egg on their face a bit for that specific deal, yes.

Comment #76It’s not like i’m suggesting Newcastle United and their owners are failures if they don’t sign Botman and Ekitike haha
All i’m saying is if these 2 specific deals don’t happen for a second time of trying, it looks a little bit bad on those deals and those deals only. Not saying we look bad overall as a club or it’s a catastrophe and we’re a joke. It’s honestly not that big of a deal or a wild thing to suggest imo.
