Newcastle Remain Committed To Landing Top Defensive Target

Newcastle are apparently willing to wait it out for Sven Botman. The Dutchman has started his holiday without his future being sorted as The Magpies and AC Milan remain in a tussle with Lille over his signature.

In his latest report in The Chronicle, Lee Ryder reveals Newcastle have not moved for other targets at the moment. They are patiently waiting to see what happens between AC Milan and Lille with the defender preferring the San Siro to St. James’ Park.

There are some discrepancies in Ryder’s report that differs from other local journalists. Ryder claims an agreement with Lille is in place. Scott Wilson with the Northern Echo also reported recently that Newcastle and Lille have an agreement in principle.

This differs from other journalists, such as Luke Edwards with The Telegraph, who had an exclusive earlier in the week that talks had broken down between the two clubs. Edwards reported that Lille raised their asking price last weekend after weeks of negotiations.

Ryder claims that Newcastle have offered a massive £46m for the 22-year-old. They are now waiting on Botman, who is hoping AC Milan can reach an agreement with Lille, to accept the move.

This transfer saga remains cloudy with so many conflicting assertions. It does appear that Newcastle are still hoping to land Botman and have yet to seriously pursue another target.

    Man City will have Haarland,
    Arsenal getting Jesus.
    Liverpool Nunez.
    Spurs have Kane.

Seems to be a pattern here. World class striker up front.

Wonder what our solution will be ?
    Wilson, Bale, other ?

    From previous on Botman

    Exactly mate.

They are totally invested on the idea of bringing in Botman.

Time will tell and hopefully not much more of it

Yeah no doubt you’re probably right, as most the media stories around Botman seem like guesswork in reality.

    The Ledge

It certainly seems like they’re invested and determined to get him. Just hope it doesn’t end up dragging on like it did in January with us not moving onto other defensive targets in the meantime.

    Caught napping, darn you Cornet.
    The Ledge,
Three two game absences, obviously with minor injuries, however only played 90 minutes seven times all season and came off at HT a couple of times and really early in the second half a few times.

I’m with Adamn, McNeil’s workrate is great, don’t lose the ball easily, press a lot and have a good cross. He is like a better Fraser, a better Almiron and a lot more skillful to beat defenders than both.

Cleveleys – I read that Chronic article about Botman being away on his holidays. But nowhere in the article does it state a holiday destination. So I am assuming it might probably mean that all of Lille’s players are on their summer break now.
If he was away on some south Pacific island I probably would be telling him to clear off.
    So not panicking yet.

Gotta say, the owners have some patience, fair play to them. And we are certainly invested in Botman, although I think Badiashile is a better athlete.

Just had a £20 with an Evertonian that we’ll finish top half. Bet’s off if we spend more than £100M.

Missed the bus : Not sure if there’s any truth to it but I heard that Cornet requested to return to his parent club towards the latter half of the season. i.e. he supposedly thought he was there on loan with an option to buy and didn’t realise Burnley had purchased him!

Think considering he’s only 22 as well, he has potential to get even better under Howe’s coaching. So wouldn’t be a bad squad option to have. Doubt there’s any interest from us though and I could imagine Burnley asking for a big price for him, which probably wouldn’t be worth it. I agree with you though, I think he has good attributes which could easily improve and be valuable to the squad.

Only really looked at him since we were linked in January

Seems like a really good keeper although again not sure he’s a massive upgrade on Dubravka

None of the keepers linked so far are but then it’s good to have 2 keepers at a similar level if possible

I’d normally say that at this stage of negotiations with Botman we should walk away. The reality is though that a little bit of swallowing our pride might be the wiser choice in this instance.

The lack of European football is affecting our ability to attract that top calibre of player, but our current wage structure (which has to be sensible for the next few years until we can grow our alternate revenue streams) is also a slight stumbling block.

I was watching the loaded mag podcast last night and they had Lee Davey the journalist who covers the French league.
He was saying that Botman is the best left-footed defender in France last year and he thinks we will get or man.
He also said Agurd who the Hammers are close to signing is a close second.

I’m with you that McNeil is young and could develop under a better manager, but we’re not going to get him on the cheap as a homegrown player with PL experience. I wouldn’t pay more than £15m for him and I doubt we’d be able to nab him for less than that. I’d be happy for smaller clubs to take a risk on him and be proven wrong on him but I just don’t see enough end product to make me think he’s a worthwhile investment, certainly not in this window anyway.

Yeah that would be the main issue for me really. I think £15m would be a fair price and one worth taking a chance on. But don’t think Burnley would let him go for that amount, they’d probably ask for double that which wouldn’t be worth it in the slightest. Like I said to Tyran I doubt there’s any interest from us anyway, but hypothetically if he were to join I think he’d be a decent squad player and improve with us.

Who knows, in a few years time we may be talking about him as one we should have moved for years ago. Or we may not see him progress at all.

Anyway lets go get Diaby 😉

No surprise players are waiting for ‘bigger’ clubs but it’s guaranteed CL football as opposed to potential CL football in 2 years – sadly it’s all being played out in the media.

Adamn… I get what your staying, i just think squad players should be very far down our list of priorities. I actually think our squad players such as Krafth, Fraser and Murphy did very well when called upon and I see No reason in getting rid of Them for other squad players. Instead buy quality or potential.

AC Milan could pull out of an increasingly complicated deal for Lille’s Sven Botman (22), despite agreeing a €3m net yearly salary, with Newcastle offering €10m more. (BUT)

I totally agree, not much of a priority at all. It’s all hypothetical thinking that if we got McNeil I think he’d be a good squad player. Not saying we should be signing squad players on players of his quality etc. All hypothetical man 🙂

Sad but true, Ketsbaia9 is not far off the mark when he says that Howe is not a strong selling point for these elite European players, and no real prospect of Champions League in the next couple of seasons is another killer. Throw into that mix “we have a project” and top players will be running a mile because that is the kiss of death.

Tyran… If by recruitment team, you mean Nickson, then i do trust him. But the Burnley players werent his idea. That comes from someone else according to the reports. So No, i dont trust whoever took that decision… Yet.

I can be proven wrong ofcourse. But as I mentioned in the post to Adamn. If we have a reduced budget due to ffp, then i would prefer players with potential such as a young portugese and brazilian kids we are linked with.

There’s another thing that hasn’t been brought up on here next season teams can use 5 players off the bench . I think our owners will be looking to make our bench stronger a couple of players who can come on and make a difference .

look at liverpools bench man citys bench the class of players them two teams can bring on .

The owners ,Howe and all the staff WILL be trying to sell a dream to prospective players – to suggest otherwise and by implication any who have signed up must be duffers.
Bruno is a fantastic player -who has been quoted on the reason he signed up.
