Newcastle Remain Committed To Landing Top Defensive Target

Newcastle are apparently willing to wait it out for Sven Botman. The Dutchman has started his holiday without his future being sorted as The Magpies and AC Milan remain in a tussle with Lille over his signature.

In his latest report in The Chronicle, Lee Ryder reveals Newcastle have not moved for other targets at the moment. They are patiently waiting to see what happens between AC Milan and Lille with the defender preferring the San Siro to St. James’ Park.

There are some discrepancies in Ryder’s report that differs from other local journalists. Ryder claims an agreement with Lille is in place. Scott Wilson with the Northern Echo also reported recently that Newcastle and Lille have an agreement in principle.

This differs from other journalists, such as Luke Edwards with The Telegraph, who had an exclusive earlier in the week that talks had broken down between the two clubs. Edwards reported that Lille raised their asking price last weekend after weeks of negotiations.

Ryder claims that Newcastle have offered a massive £46m for the 22-year-old. They are now waiting on Botman, who is hoping AC Milan can reach an agreement with Lille, to accept the move.

This transfer saga remains cloudy with so many conflicting assertions. It does appear that Newcastle are still hoping to land Botman and have yet to seriously pursue another target.

Looks like Gabriel Jesus might be going to Arsenal. Man City might need a forward to replace him – Chris Wood anyone.

Seems like you would rather trust a media report more than the management? Pretty sure whoever is in the list is thoroughly discuss among the recruitment team, and not just as reported being only Howe’s decision. Those young players will not cut it, even CR7 was slowly ease in.

Does anyone else get the feeling that our next signing is going to be someone completely out of the bluer that we’ve not been linked with? With Ekitike and Botman constantly in the media it’s easy to assume it’ll be one of them. But I just have a feeling it may be someone we haven’t heard of yet that is suddenly very advanced out of nowhere. Similar to how Bruno happened. I think after the Emery situation last season, the owners are probably more keen to keep their cards close to their chest from now on.

    No on McNeil.

I’d have Bale on a free. He’s very short term solution though and be lucky to get more than a season from him. Pretty sure he’ll retire after the world cup/end of season

I’m not sure Ekitike fancies the move to England, and he may not be mature enough to do it. I can’t remember exactly what happened in Jan but I think he didn’t feel the time was right. To the watching world, we’ll end up with a fair bit of egg on our faces after being so dogged chasing him, and the whole thing being so well known publicly. That said, it’s a tough gig for the owners. We are trying to sell a vision to them, and all we have to sell is a great fan base, potential to chase Europe, and good salaries. We don’t have European football to sell to them. If the likes of Botman genuinely want to come here, and we are offering a better deal to the selling club than Milan are, how can it be so difficult to get this done. You have to assume Botman isn’t helping our cause? And probably same with Ekitike.

PSG have been in talks to sign Hugo Ekitike but are waiting to appoint a new coach before proceeding.

Newcastle are now looking for a plan B while the player stalls and decides his next club.

Told you i was quiet confident cause i rate the source very much.

Tyran… You are talking about two different things here.

In Regards to McNeil and Cornet, i have seen Them play with my own eyes and im not impressed. Thats My opinion, and it aint more right or wrong than yours, just different.

The other thing is the reports you refer to. They stated that Howe was behind this transfer, not Nickson. I love Howe as our manager and I honestly wouldnt change him for any other in the world right now. But if these are players he want, then I dont trust him to make transfer decision just yet. It seems easy, unoriginal and very short sighted for where we have ambitions to go.

Munster – agreed, some players will be happy to join the project knowing if it doesn’t go so well they can put themselves in shop window for man city, liverpool etc – others will use us to push interest amongst CL playing clubs now.
As you say, we have a project and a great fanbase – only some players will go for that

The Ledge@#36. I’ll take you on there. Trippier was a natural sort of fit for us. An ageing player who wanted to get back to his northern roots. Bruno probably just saw a chance at the Premier League and took it. He wasn’t a hot commodity at the time as I recall. A “project” for me indicates no guarantee of short term success, a bit of a gamble, and a lack of certainty. I’ll bet Milan are not giving Botman the “project” line just as an example.
