Newcastle have a second goalkeeper linked with a move to the Championship. The Athletic is reporting that Karl Darlow has been identified as a potential option for Middlesbrough.
Freddie Woodman has been heavily linked with Preston North End for a couple of weeks. Talks are still underway over a loan with a view to a permanent similar to Isaac Hayden’s move to Norwich City.
Birmingham City, managed by former Newcastle midfielder Lee Bowyer, are also touted with an interest in Woodman. It appears that Preston are the frontrunners as they look to replace Daniel Iversen, who spent the last season and a half on loan at Deepdale from Leicester City.
Iversen is also under consideration at the Riverside Stadium. Manager Chris Wilder will target either Darlow or Iverson to take the number one gloves. Iversen will be allowed out for another loan spell rather than remaining at Leicester, where is behind Kasper Schmeichel and Danny Ward.
One of Dan Ashworth’s top priorities this summer is to significantly trim the squad. If both Woodman and Darlow leave this summer, that would open the door for a goalkeeping target to come aboard.
There have been no shortage of options as Burnley’s Nick Pope and PSG’s Alphonse Areola have both hit the radar in recent weeks. Newcastle have seemingly moved on from Manchester United’s Dean Henderson who is wanted by Nottingham Forest either on loan or permanently.

Comment #49Bit disappointed that Raphina could be off to Arsenal, I thought the only thing stopping us having a chance was that he had his heart set on Bayern or Barca. We can match the asking price and pay the wages, we should have been on to that. Imagine having him and ASM on either side.

Iโd much prefer Diaby to Raphinha. At least then Arsenal couldnโt then be competing with us for Diaby.

Comment #64Raj, oh yes it is. Last month the first hospital i was in was new and I had my own room and ensuite bathroom. However the chap next door had dementia and would kick off from sundown til 4 in the morning.
I was then moved to a different hospital sharing a room with 5 others who had 3 legs between them and regularly shat the bed.
It’s a bloody nightmare.

New poster but long time reader of the blog.
On the topic of Everton and FFP while I am not accountant like onmeeheadsun I think what Everton are trying to claim is basically “our players are worth a lot less because of covid and had it not been for covid we could have sold some of them at large profit” – It must be along those lines cos players account for the majority of their losses especially given what does not count towards FPP.
The question the Premier League have to ask themselves is “Why are Everton uniquely in this position?” – the answer is simply they spent really really badly.
= Guilty of FPP breach ๐
