Medical Set As Agreement Reached In Principle For England International – Report

It looks like it will be Nick Pope next through the door at St. James’ Park. After Luke Edwards broke the news that an agreement was very close for the 30-year-old, The Athletic’s David Ornstein is reporting an agreement in principle has been reached.

Pope is now set for a medical with the deal expected to be completed by the end of the week. Ornstein does not cite the amount of the fee but Edwards reported earlier today it was around £10m, which is good business for an England international in his prime.

Pope’s arrival will also be accompanied by some sad news as Freddie Woodman looks set to depart after nine years on Tyneside. The 25-year-old is very close to clinching a move to Preston North End as revealed by The Athletic earlier today.

Newcastle’s pursuit of both Sven Botman and Hugo Ekitike continues to be clouded in uncertainty. After a promising update from the Chronicle on Ekitike, Luke Edwards countered that talks with the player’s representatives have gone quiet over the past week.

The hope of having most of the summer business done by the start of preseason next month looks very unlikely. However, Nick Pope will be an excellent addition as he looks set to follow the reliable Matt Targett as our next summer signing.

Yeah just looking for proper specimens who just live and breathe Football no flash Harry’s haha

If we get Pope for that price that will be great there has always been decent deals to get in England every season but Ashley was always reluctant for some reason

Pope will be a good top draw signing. England’s No1 very soon no doubt, great professional and has played some blinding games towards the end of the season when it was like a one man crusade to save Burnley from the dreaded drop, the worldies he pulled off her out of this world…

He commands his 6 yard box well, and does have a good distribution, see for yourselves if you were one of the few that thought not. This lad has huge potential to be immense in a better team. For 8m-10m what an absolute bargain…

I totally agree I don’t personally rate Lingard that highly, Paqueta on the other hand I’d love us to sign and I doubt he’d be asking for wages like that

He may be despised by some fans but maybe he sometimes gets stuff right. I don’t really know as I ignore a lot of this sort of stuff.

Woodman off to Preston North End on a permanent deal. Wasn’t cut out for the PL, at least not at this stage of his career, but I wish him well and hope this spell as a consistent Championship starter gives him the platform to kick on. Has bags of potential. Good luck Freddie.

Lingard as they say can ‘do one’.
No way do we want or need Man Yanks overpaid cast offs and the egos that come from that club.

Calvin-Lewis will move away from Everton which is a wise move from him.
No doubt Everton’s likely new owners with their Old Trapdoor links will welcome Lingard with open arms to placate the less than charming Everton fans.

Man U closing in on Anthony

We should of been all over that but maybe Howe doesn’t want to fill the team with Brazilians…

Got to leave room for Paqueta;)

Anthony will take a season or two to learn his lesson, then depends on his mentality if he swim or get shipped out. Typical Ajax players.

    Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Suarez, Eriksen

More than 10 years ago: Zlatan, Bergkamp, Seedorf, Edgar Davids, Wesley Sneijder, Edwin van der Saar plus many more.

Ajax have a track record of producing some stellar players.

I do agree with you that some players struggle to make the transition to the Premier League, so it’ll be interesting to see how he does if he does sign for Man United.

It was on BBC Newcastle about Pope so must be looking good. Keepers are in their absolute prime at 30 and if Pickford wasn’t Southgate’s darling we’d have the England number one. He’s got at least another four years with us as number one and Dubs at least another couple of years here. That gives us plenty of time to sort the academy out and bring in some top class youth to be here long term.
