Tuesday was another roller coaster ride for the Toon Army. News broke that an agreement in prinicple has been reached for Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope. The 30-year-old is expected to wrap up a £10m move later this week.

On a sad note, Freddie Woodman has officaly departed his home of nine years. The 25-year-old has joined Preston North End on a permanent transfer which is an excellent opportunity for the young goalkeeper.

Some potentially worrying news comes via an update on Hugo Ekitike from The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards. He revealed calls to the player’s representatives have not been returned for the past week.

The 20-year-old is currently on holiday with the move to Newcastle in his agent’s hands. An agreement has been reached with Reims but the striker is being shopped around Europe.

While concerning, this may be the work of his agents trying to get the best move for their client. They could also be looking to cash in on lucrative agent fees which reportedly is a cause of contention with the Newcastle hierarchy.

France’s L’Equipe, by way of Get French Football News, are reporting that Newcastle remain in pole position to land the striker. However, there is growing concern due to the interest of some elite clubs in Europe.

PSG have been linked in recent weeks though they are in the process of poaching Christophe Galtier from Nice to be their next manager. They may not be ready to make a move until the managerial situation is sorted.

L’Equipe also claim Real Madrid see Ekitike as a future star and are considering making a move. Real Madrid have just added Aurelien Tchouameni of Monaco to their impressive group of Frenchman – Karim Benzema, Eduardo Camavinga, and Ferland Mendy.

They also claim Bayern Munich could pounce for Ekitike. Newcastle had seemingly fended off Borussia Dortmund, who have added Karim Adeyemi and are now going for Ajax’s Sebastien Haller, only to now see Bayern move into the picture.

Bundesliga writer Manuel Veth is confirming the interest from the Bundesliga champions. However, it could hinge on Robert Lewankowski landing in Barcelona.

Interesting story in L'Equipe regarding Hugo Ekitike to #Bayern today. As reported, #NUFC have a deal in place to sign the Reims talent but the deal has been stalled.

This potentially sheds light on why the move to Newcastle is being delayed. Ekitike’s representatives are exploring all options which may end up with Newcastle moving on to other targets.

I can’t see NUFC paying that kind of money – They have behind the scenes oil cash but they won’t be held over a barrel…..

Mund , just watched that link – didn’t really say owt we don’t already know – its been said many times we won’t pay toon tax and we’ve known about the rest for what seems like a lifetime .

If Ekitike really wants to join us and the clubs have already agreed the deal, then he should change his agent, if the deal is stalling because he is demanding silly agent fees or whatever.

I mentioned your name in defence of myself rather than unprompted, surely that has to be allowed within the terms of the ceasefire.
As for the two knuckle-dragging idiots last night, it is sad that homophobia is still so rampant in 2022 and that calling someone ‘sweetheart’ is a supposed indicator of one’s sexual preferences but there we go. The blog, for as amazing as it is, can be so very disappointing at times too.
The Pope deal is every fan’s ideal transfer – go in under the radar without any ITKs having a clue, slap in a bid that’s promptly accepted, deal done and medical arranged a few days later. Simply lovely.

I think they’re going about their business quietly and assuredly, nope, you’re right, not the most exciting strategy for fans but it’s what has happened come September that matters. It looks like Pope is a done deal so that’s £25M spent. Under Ashley and with a popular manager like Eddie H that may well have been it for the summer.

My suspicion is that Pope must have had a relegation release clause otherwise they’d surely have gotten more for Pope – England international, highly rated etc.
Granted, they are in a financial mess as well so perhaps they’re just desperate for any and all income. It’s sad that the Burnley takeover was allowed to happen. They’re lumbered with debt they didn’t have before the takeover, much of which is repayable now they’ve been relegated.

I guess that’s why they’re easy to deal with. The Pope deal is fantastic. Actual real strengthening signing. Its weird.
I watched England outside of a major tournament earlier this summer cos trips was starting. An actual toon player getting a game for England. What I concluded from that is that Engla d needs more toon players. 🙂

There were others suggesting that we should look at Cornet or McNeil from Burnley but outside of Pope (and perhaps Nathan Collins) I don’t think I’d be interested in any others.
As for England needing more Toon players – that has always been England’s issue 😉
All kidding aside, there is a problem at left-back, which I know Trips filled in for, but if Targett can keep up his performances, no reason why he can’t force himself into WC contention. Imagine Pope, Trips and Targett at the WC!

I don’t know how it works if there’s no relegation clause. How come Mane and Sterling are touted so high with one year left, is it down to a player not prepared to sit on the bench and leave for free, so basically letting the buying club know that if they don’t pay they’ll sign a new deal. Complicated business.

I have an update on what's happening with my treatment for prostate cancer.

Last week, my oncologist called me late in the day and said he thought it was best to terminate my treatment with radium 223 dichloride because it was having such a negative effect on my health - specifically my digestive system.

I had completed 3 of the planned 6 infusions.

They had looked at the bone scans and three CAT scans I had early last week, and they showed no signs of the cancer spread being slowed or stopped: in fact, it was continuing to spread and my PSA account continued to rise.

The only treatment left now is to go back and have another bout of chemotherapy with docetaxel being the medication used.

I understand this will be a 7-month job with 10 sessions 3 weeks apart - almost double my first chemo treatment in Apil 2017, when I has 6 treatmnts.

The problem I have is that I'm in a very poor physical state right now, due to my digestive system being basically torn apart by the radium 223.

The radium 223 has leaked into my digestive system and caused me to have severe diarrhea, nausea, and heartburn, and it was (is) very serious.

They said it was too dangerous to proceed with the radium 223 treatment, with little benefit being shown.

I am also suffering from severe exhaustion, basically, because I have zero testosterone, and all the treatments I've had for the cancer, have further lessened the energy available to me.

It reminds me of the saying that if cancer doesn’t kill you - the treatment will (laugh).

It will probably take up to 8 weeks to get back to a physical state where I can start chemotherapy, and that's where I am now, but the cancer continues to spread in the bones.

I've also been put in touch with the dietitian from UNC Healthcare, who will help me get back my health - she is very helpful.

So that's where it stands it's been quite a journey over 12 years and I think I've had almost every treatment available.

It has really taken a toll on my body and on my energy, but that's where it stands and obviously, I'll do the best I can in the upcoming months with chemo and hope I can get through it.

It is as it is - and another challenge in life.
