Goalkeeper Nick Pope – Welcome To Newcastle – Video Of Some Super Saves

30-year-old Burnley goalkeeper Nick Pope will have his medical at Newcastle tomorrow, and all being well will become Newcastle’s second signing of the summer, following Matt Targett through the door at Newcastle.

Nick has been brought in to challenge Martin Dubravka for the goalkeeper jersey at Newcastle, and he has told people that he has not joined Newcastle to simply warm the bench.

Here’s some of Nick’s top saves, with his strengths being in shot-stopping and coming out for crosses, and generally controlling his box.

His distribution is said to currently be the weakest part of his game, but that will surely improve under the guidance of Eddie Howe.

All top clubs need two top-class goalkeepers, and for an initial fee of only £10M – Pope is a bargain buy.

What do you think?

    Nufc 4ever,
There’s two ways of looking at that, no need to rub it in to those who are going to miss out, there are people who had them for twenty odd years until Bruce pushed them over the edge.

Genuinely, I think Botman is coming here and wants to, just his club playing silly buggers over price, which of course we won’t allow.

Also, I think Ekitike is coming here and wants to, just his agents playing silly buggers trying to hawk him around to push up their ante, which of course we won’t allow.

Both coming, both want to, both imminent. Watch this space!! 🙂

Bills, I do take notice of what you say, and it makes sense. Personally never had a reluctant team mate who lasted 40mins.. Palindrome and Cyberman taking it to the limits. we just should turn away. It will give a message

The goalkeeper position is a cruel one, as it is either one or the other.

Darlow was player of the season, surely saving us from relegation. Dubravka comes back, slots right in, he too had a brilliant season.

Now Pope. Is he better than Dubravka? From the times I’ve watched him, absolutely.

    So, I think he’ll be a starter.

Sevilla have given their word to Jules Kounde that he can leave and #nufc have tempted him with a move, but his current preference is Barcelona. [Mundo Deportivo]

    Btw,
Is there a team out there which uses two equally good keepers regularly and interchangeably, keeping them both match fit? Why does it have to be so absolutely either or?

    Who decided this?

They all train together, on a daily basis, so it’s not as if…

Cheers, wasn’t aware he played for the France under 20’s as a wide attacker. I saw through transfermarkt that he played wide for Reims 4 times last season, but was central for the vast majority. So be interesting to see if he is preferred to be a wide player in Howe’s eyes.

Peter, I’ve read almost everything written about these 2 since January, and apart from Ekitike thinking January was too soon and too risky in his development, there has been no negative comments from them about coming here.

The only negative stories have come from either their clubs, Milan/ Italian press, and agents.

Most of the negativity has then been multiplied by a considerable amount of “anti Newcastle” bias in the U.K. press.

Until I hear from either of the players directly or from NUFC, I will not believe that they don’t want to come.

And I’m not an ITK, and have no insider knowledge or contacts, purely my opinion.

And I’m also of the opinion, that if there was any genuine messing about being done, we will move on to other targets and leave their careers in tatters. 😀

Looks like the earlier and latest signings are a clear signal that the new regime are not prepared to buy a league position rather that the new invigorated squad will earn it. I guess top 6 is in their thinking this year and maybe next. Year 3 onwards we then join the big spenders on the back of achieving European football at some level.

At least I won’t have to wait for a telegram from the Queen.

We (the club) seem totally relaxed about the situation and I suspect everything is tied up, except medicals and signing. This being the case, we’ve let them both go off to enjoy their hols (post tournament) and they’ll be heading here shortly.

    Clint,

Really it’s so universally applied that the idea is almost an outrage.

But, when two equally gifted keepers interchange, e.g. due to injury, it’s usually a smooth transition, despite the other’s “rustiness”.

    Agree with Cbob

Sir pug, problem is you don’t know what kind of disinformation the agent is giving him. He could be telling ekitike that the agent fee isn’t the issue at all and that newcastle are messing about on the fee with Reims or are trying to pull his signing bonus, renegotiate the wage number etc. I’m sure you’ll have a lot of decent agents out there but there’s definitely a lot of cowboys just in it for themselves

At least 12,000 folk were on the club web site today just to learn what the arrangements are for the sale next week of Season Tickets.

Do we know how many new Season Ticker holders they will release ?

What’s the max for season tickets 46,000 ? Then 5,000 match day tickets, about 1,500 away fans ? ( seems too many for my liking)

Doubt we can build an extension in the Gallowgate end in 8 weeks !
What chance of putting into SJP standing terraces which are now allowed. That might create another 1,500 spaces for fans ?

With the approach you’re describing it’s not top six, more like top sixteen :). Our current crop are good, but see what one Bruno did.

I think they will go for at least one marquee signing and three first team starters.

I hope so anyway. Enough of this struggling EVERY year 🙂

We’ll obviously have to accept that we don’t agree on this whilst remembering we both have the right to a different opinion. We wouldn’t want to join the ” Cancel Culture ” brigade would we now??

This talk of season tickets has made me think of an issue which I don’t believe has been resolved.

All premier league teams were given an instruction to locate visiting fans pitch-side to improve atmosphere and also optics for TV. We were given dispensation to not comply for a season or two to allow us to make necessary provision.

Nothing appears to have happened. Does any one have an update?
