Newcastle Contemplating Bid For Versatile Porto Attacker – Report

Newcastle are reportedly contemplating a bid for Porto winger Pepe according to UOLEsporte’s Jeremias Wernek. The Brazilian journalist tweeted the following earlier today which translates to:

Pepê, Portuguese champion for Porto, is in Newcastle’s sights. The English team may present an official proposal in the coming days. Grêmio has 12.5% of profit from the sale.

Pepe joined Porto from Brazil’s Gremio last summer for around £13m. The winger made 42 appearances in all competitions for the Portuguese champions, though only about half of those were starts.

The 25-year-old saw an increased presence in the starting eleven after Luis Diaz’s move to Liverpool in January. He is a right-footed winger who generally can play on the left or right.

This could be a difficult transfer to complete as he’s only been at Porto for one season. As Wernek mentions, 12.5% of any profit on a sale will go to Gremio. Porto are not short of cash after selling center-back Fabio Vieira to Arsenal earlier this week.

The versatile attacker could be seen as a cheaper option to Leverkusen’s Moussa Diaby. He won’t cost anywhere near the Frenchman’s £50m valuation and would slot in nicely with Newcastle’s Brazilian contingent of Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton.

Exactly my thoughts about those signings.

    Venison, Beresford, Bracewell, Sheedy, Sellers,

Then obviously some more exotic signings like Lee and Cole

Ashley firmly trying to stick his grubby fat fingers into another club…£50M for Derby including the stadium. Says he won’t charge them rent on the stadium. Do you wonder if he had all the tacky SD advertinging shipped to a warehouse when the new owners had it removed, just waiting for an opportunity like this.

    Goal Linton.

Seriously, i think Pope is a bigger version of Given, and tbh i can`t believe we got him for that price.
A Liverpool dilute at work asked me “how the foot did you pick him up for just 10M”
I just said, ” you don`t call us Manure pal”

Like you say, the competition is now serious for no1 Gk at the Toon,
Dubs had got Pope breathing down his neck now, one mistake and he could be out. Its all good though

Yeah I never thought Given commanded his box enough and his distribution was.poor.
    Excellent shot stopper though.

For £10million you can’t go wrong and even KK got.it wrong sometimes like signing Mike Hopper as competition for Pav haha

I can’t get my head around those figures,if they are correct it means Mel Morris, is in fact giving the stadium to Ashley..

Also luckily for the fat one, nearly everyone employed at Shirebrook is from Eastern europe and aren’t Derby fans..
Saying that though,he is in fact saving a football club, whatever our views are of the odious bloodsucking leech…

I enjoy Kets’s occasional visits to Planet Earth. Goodness knows where he gets his ideas from. I see he’s given up on Santon (31-y-o, crocked) being a better signing than Targett (younger/fit/proven for us) but it won’t be long before he improves on his 17 necessary signings. I can’t wait……………..

Mike Ashley has said if he gets the ground in with the deal he wont charge rent for it . if you believe that you’ll believe anything .

so if he gets the club plus the stadium who is he gonna charge for renting it

    himself a tax fiddle ?

Ashington, yeah seems well low but that is what Asley specialises in, buying bankrupt companies on the cheap.

Financially he may save the club in the short term but they would have no future and no hope.

Derby fans better pray the other offer wins.

Pope commands his box much better than Given did though imo, and at 6ft 5 he is some unit.

The other offer, is worse for football in this country.Yet another American consortium, lining up for the super league!
There should be a government enquiry in to the Chelsea sale IMO.
Sir Richard Radcliffe offered more and pledged every penny,to be re-invested in to the club and surrounding areas, and yet an American consortium won the day???

If Pope is as good as the stats say he is then he will be England no.1 by December. Playing for a higher profile team its surely only a matter of time until he knocks T-rex features back to the bench. Its crazy how T-rex keeps getting the nod hes so sht like.

Ashingtoon, I don’t know enough about the other offers you mention to rationally comment on them in any detail.

I would say this though if the yanks get Derby they have a long wait to claim they should be in any superleague, but then I never understood why Spurs would be either!

Pope has a real chance to become England’s No1 now.

As you say he is very commanding and gets down well for having such a tall frame.

Young for a GK so lots of time.to.develop even further.

I respect Dubravka he has been an excellent signing and servered the club well so the gauntlet is laid down to him.

With the extra pressure he could.excel and eliminate those few occasional mistakes
