While rife with frustration, Newcastle are making progress in the early stages of the summer window. Nick Pope looks set to become Eddie Howe’s second summer signing behind Matt Targett, whose loan was made permanent earlier this month.
Once Pope puts pen to paper the spending will hit around £22m, though Freddie Woodman’s sale to Preston North End for an undisclosed fee will offset that amount. Isaac Hayden has also departed for Norwich City on loan with a view to a permanent deal.
Galway United’s Alex Murphy has been added to the academy. The teenage left-back will arrive in July as he continues to get experience playing in the SSE Airtricity League First Division. He started Galway’s 5-1 win at Bray Wanderers over the weekend.
The Athletic recently revealed that Newcastle have won the race for Kilmarnock’s Charlie McArthur. An agreement has been reached for £350k with personal terms already settled. His arrival will hopefully be confirmed soon.
Newcastle are making progress and it just takes a breakthrough for Hugo Ekitike or Sven Botman to change the complexity completely. The Magpies continue to lead the chase for the duo and hopefully, patience will pay off in the end.

Comment #2I wonder if they will wait to announce Pope with the other two lads or announce it this week just to give the fanbase something to be excited for…
I think Pope will be announced before the weeks out and both Botman and Ekitike no later than next week

Gutted they got Gravenberch as he is definitely a future star…
Maybe a couple of seasons and we’ll pair him with Bellingham and Bruno 😉

Comment #5Mund – you said Hugo will develop – and that is the key -he will develop/progress with his new team mates over time -so they literally know what each are thinking.
Mouth watering really.

Comment #7Aston Villa are willing to listen to offers for John McGinn this summer and will accept any bids they consider top-tier.
Mcginn is a great little midfielder him, Bruno and Joelinton would dominate teams

With the guidance of Howe and his team and surrounded by the best fans in the world…
The sky is his limit.
It’s not only exciting to think about these potentially stars of the future but knowing we have Eddie to help develop them and what he has done already in a short time to all the lads who have featured is nothing short of incredible. Very exciting

Big…as in BIG!
Size, based on various metrics, i would say.
Who do they talk about, put live games on tv, fan base, stadium, history(not just recent history). Put all that into a context if how ‘well’ a team is currently doing…
Manu are shite atm, but doesn’t stop ’em being big.
Trophies(recently won) doesn’t necessarily mean big.

Comment #15Looks like the gist of the season. Ticket sales is that existing season tickets holders can’t apply for more. Only folk who’ve purchased match day tickets since 2019 can apply?
Seems strange that someone who bought one ticket 3 years ago will have the same chance as someone who bought home and away tickets regularly for many matches.
Is that how you see it?

Newcastle United have agreed a deal to sign Nick Pope from Burnley.
The England goalkeeper will travel to Tyneside to complete a medical on Thursday ahead of his move to St James’ Park.

Comment #21Transfer window open 12 days and we have an England keeper and a proven left back. Brilliant progress. Keep them coming.
I still think we’ll get Botman and ekitike PLUS a big gun like Paqueta, Ruiz, Diaby etc.

For where we are at currently he is one of the best midfielders in the league outside the top 6 he can also play on the right wing as well
There’s rumours that its because he has fell out with Gerrard and wants to be at a club that’s moving forwards quicker
Although he is currently linked with us and Spurs so if they sign him there is your answer for whether he is good enough as if he is good enough for Conte…..

I’m pretty sure someone on here posted last month that they’d been told that ST holders were getting first dibs on tickets, then members and then public sale. Utter tosh as it’s turned out.

Possibly an England LB, GS can’t ignore him with Trippier, Wilson and Pope in the side and given our current lack of natural LB’s.

Comment #26Another Irishman here. Definitely coming around on Collins but doubt he’d be cheaper than Botman so still not sure I’d go for him. Have seen him make a few mistakes but big talent and only young.
For anyone who didn’t see his goal for Ireland last week, feel free to admire this beauty https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pZ_UuRwh1Y

He was involved with 7 Villa goals which was more than Joelinton and Almiron so yeah and I think he would be better with more quality around him and not a pillock like Smith or Gerrard in charge haha
I do think we need more goals and assists from all of our midfielders next season whoever stays so if Longstaff, Shelvey and Joelinton are still playing regularly they need to be looking at at least 5 goals each and some assists at a minimum
Same with ASM he needs to be hitting double figures for goals and assists
I think we will get it though as it looks like Eddie is sorting out our defence so we have a solid base for which our attacking players can go forward more

I think the issue for Southgate is that England are so stocked with right backs that its difficult to leave Trippier out but he is behind Walker and Trent if they are fit he is unlikely to be first pick
But at left back he trusts Trippier over the other options Shaw is terrible overrated but then if Targett plays well he could be given a shot although not a lot of friendlies left to test new players out with Southgate being quite risk averse
