Pope Medical Set For Thursday As Some Clarity Arrives On Two Priority Targets

Nick Pope will be Eddie Howe’s second senior signing of the summer. An agreement has been reached with Burnley for around £10m with a medical scheduled for tomorrow according to Pete Graves with Sky Sports.

Newcastle seemed to have wrapped this deal up quickly. It was just one week ago that our interest in the 30-year-old surfaced. He’ll come in and immediately battle Martin Dubravka for the number one gloves.

The news on other pursuits is not as encouraging. An agreement has not been reached with Lille as they moved the goalposts late in the game increasing their asking price. Most local journalists believe the player is keen on the move.

One potential positive is AC Milan’s new budget will not be enough for the Serie A champions to continue their pursuit of the 22-year-old. Reports from Italy have placed their budget at around £40-50m plus player sales as Redbird Capital Partners complete their takeover.

PSG are in hot pursuit of Inter’s Milan Skriniar. Inter are lining up Torino’s Gleison Bremer as a replacement. So with any luck, Newcastle could be the only option for Lille to do business with as their owners get antsy about a lack of player sales.

A report from L’Equipe yesterday claimed Real Madrid were interested in Hugo Ekitike. That has since been refuted by multiple outlets. His representatives continue to stall the striker’s move to Newcastle.

Bayern Munich reportedly have come into the equation should Robert Lewandowski move to Barcelona. Dortmund have reached an agreement to sign Sebastien Haller according to Romano so they appear to be out of the running.

It’s left me with a headache this ticket malarkey, don’t mind going on my own but you wouldn’t want to make a habit of it.

I’d disagree with you on that assessment of Collins as I’ve seen quite a bit of Collins with RoI and think he shows a lot more potential than McNeil but I take your point regarding the price. I think Burnley will want to keep him and build their back 4 around him next season in all honesty.

So that comment comes from the live stream of TalkSport happening right now, I’ve tried to rewind the stream on YouTube and get the actual live quote as there seems to be some confusion as to whether Jose Fonte actually said it or Jim White was quoting paper talk at him but from what I have read from those who listened to it live, Fonte himself said to watch out for Botman to Newcastle.

People just need to take a deep breath. This time last year we were being told we wouldn’t be able to get Hamza Choudhury through the door.

Now we’re all sweating bullets because we MIGHT get some potentially world class youngsters to the club ahead of some of Europe’s giant clubs.

It’s all about improving what we’ve currently got, which for the most part is really not difficult as for about three years now, bar one or two players, we’ve had a Championship level squad.

Ashworth will have a couple of aces up his sleeve as well but it’s about getting the right players at the right price.

    Just chill…. there’s time.

Wouldn’t let me rewind on youtube, but yeah seems a bit of confusion. Some people saying he was just reading paper talk and wasn’t his actual words. Some saying he basically just confirmed it. So without seeing the actual part on TalkSport where he mentions it, hard to say. You’d imagine if it was Fonte saying it as his own view though, it’d be quite the exclusive and TalkSport will post it somewhere soon.

Agreed, I don’t want to take anything as gospel until I’ve had a chance to listen to it myself and like you say, there are conflicting reports as to what exactly was said.

Cautiously optimistic that we’ll get both Ekitike and Botman in the door. I can’t see Bayern going for Ekitike if Dortmund passed up on him, and I can’t see him getting regular game time for PSG or Real Madrid so all of these big European names being touted for him is just agent talk in my book.

I dont even see why Saha’s comments have caused such a stir. In my opinion, only Liverpool, manure and Arsenal are historically bigger clubs in England. Spurs, Chelsea and City are more powerful in the current time of speaking. Besides those clubs, we are by far the club with the biggest potential, hence why a Saudi prince, who is used to the highest quality went for us. The power can change in 10 years, the history in 50.

The whole concept of “bigger” club is subjective though. Is it based on trophies? Infrastructure? National and international fanbase? Where do we draw the line – Premier League era? Professional era?

In any case, it’s a pretty hard to define point but as you say, only Liverpool, Man U and Arsenal can be argued as categorically bigger clubs than us.

McNeil has completed almost as many passes into the box as Diaby. Diaby has found teammates in the box 2.58 times on average per game, McNeil is at 2.14 and ASM is at 1.32.

Ruddy… I agree, but I would add that I see more potential in us than in villa and everton for instance. Although that might be my biased view.

A football club is only as good as it’s fanbase because without it football clubs are nothing…

Which says we are the best!

If Pope is signed I’m pretty confident that he will be the number 1. Granted Howe will have them competing against each other in pre-season -but I think Pope will be number one. Dubs has lost his bottle when coming out to get the ball from corners etc, sometimes he starts to come and then bottles it.

Hesitation leads to errors – he has to be replaced.

Hugo Etikite looks a smart young man – might need muscling up a bit. Hope he does not go woke like Dele Alli and Rashford. Poncey haircuts and develops more of an interest in fashion than football.

I think he is going to be a good signing – if he joins us.

Every big club across Europe has been watching him. He is a possible star of the future. It’s very exciting to think he will develop in black and white and hopefully turns into one of Europe’s best

Return date for the players is 1st July I’m sure we will have added a few new names to the squad before then. A few surprises and I don’t think any more players from Burnley.

How one bad season can change how people’s view towards some players. Can’t blame Rashford with all the negativity at Man Utd. I’ll have him over Ekitike if available at the same price.
