Luke Edwards has taken to Twitter in the wake of a report that Newcastle have moved on from Ekitike. Edwards believes there is still some lingering hope an agreement can be reached but for now, other options are being looked at.
A lot of talk on Ekitike again today #nufc haven’t given up yet but as i said earlier in the week they are looking at other targets now and they are getting increasingly irritated with the way things are being handled. The kid is being badly advised basically
— Luke Edwards (@LukeEdwardsTele) June 23, 2022
The obstacle appears to be solely down to Ekitike’s agents. 90min’s Graeme Bailey reported this morning that the striker’s representatives are seeking excessive fees. He claimed Newcastle have walked away but are willing to return should they soften their demands.
There isn’t much more in these recent updates from Edwards’ report earlier in the week. The move has been stalled by Ekitike’s agents, who are looking to cash in on the transfer of their client. They’ve not have much success with Newcastle so they are shopping him around Europe.
Ekitike appears keen to make the jump to Tyneside. If nothing develops in the next few weeks from other clubs, it will put pressure on his agents to return to Newcastle and reach an agreement.
On a brighter note, here is a smiling Nick Pope arriving for his medical at Newcastle.

Comment #42@Tyran21 – from previous post… If a player wants to change clubs then the agent shouldn’t have a say in that! You think otherwise?
If said player is under contract that’s where the agent earns their money, because they go and speak with other clubs and find out a) what they might pay said player and b) what they would be willing to pay to buy out the player’s contract.
Perhaps I’m missing your point sir but it seems as if you agree that agents in football are doing right by the game… PLEASE tell me I’ve missed the point.

My guess is it will slow down now I have pointed it out. I thought the bloke was banned for his shenanigans many moons ago, it’s a little sad he’s back. I can’t wait for “Pushy Howe” to rock up, and was he also under the name “Carl”? (not Carltoon!)

You’re snapping (elite teams’) hands off for ASM at 40 million, while it is much better teams than ours, full of star players which are enquiring.
That alone should tell us something. If he was as crap as you portray him could their coaches, scouts be so wrong?
For me, “not for sale” sign. Can unlock the best of defences? Yes. Can he find a pass? Yes, when he decides to ;). Can he score? Sure. Is he the BEST dribbler in Europe?
Give the lad a chance. He’s like 24, the world literally at his feet.

Comment #46I see the poll on this thread where Neil is asking who will be the no 1 keeper follows my prediction.
70% or thereabouts think Pope will be the no 1 keeper. My faith in the Toon supporter being well informed and knowledgible remains intact.
Viva the Toon connoisseur and knowledgible supporters.

Comment #47They also play in Brazil… but well, they always play in Brazil….
From January to April, they got ( depending of the state ) approximatively 20 games in local championships, then, from May to December, the 38 games of the Brasileirão ( national championship )….

Many moons ago, I played in a league in the Outer Hebrides, and it used to be played in the summer because, if I remember correctly, the pitches were too wet in the winter.

In real terms why would Spurs want him? Conte loves a 532, so where would Maxi fit in?
Chelsea are the type of team to spunk £40m on a bench warmer.
All it tells me is that they rate him higher than their second string in both cases.
You use a lot of “can he” about him but not a lot of “does he”, that’s the problem with him for me. The potential and ability is there, but he hardly shows it as he’s too busy showboating to the idiots who get a chub on over a few step overs and 90% of the time he runs into bother and concedes possession.

Comment #53The system is even more strange in Argentina.
They got a championship with 28 teams and only one game against each opponent ( so 27 games ) in summer AND a tournament with two group of 13 team, and again one game against each opponent of the group and then quarter final, semi final and final, so 15 games more… in Winter…

I meant what you think of the report as a former talent agent? Player agreed terms and want to come, but agent fees not settled. How much power the agent holds to delay the transfer, if the player really agreed the move already?

Comment #60Blow me down, it appears that Ekitike’s cousin/agent is prepared to stuff his career in pursuit of a bigger slice for himself.
Talk about killing the goose and all that.
These guys are bonkers. Get him signed and for doing virtually nothing over the next 5 years you could be getting 12.5% of a £100k per week minimum. £650k per year before tax for sitting on your arse, but he’s not happy!!!
Get that into your heads guys.

Comment #70Our transfer business has been disappointing so far. I’m not fussed on Pope however he is an upgrade on Dubravka. The Botman and Ekitike transfers are a waste of time and are reminiscent of the transfer dealings we had under the previous regime; drag on and end up fruitless.
Hopefully we see some movement next week.

Comment #71I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Ian Toon wasn’t behind that account morrocco1 or whatever. Using exactly the same wording as me. He dome the same with Sack Llambias before it was obvious it wasn’t me then absorbed him in to one of his everyday accounts 😀

The transfer market is open until end of August, we’ve signed 2 players in the first 2 weeks of the window being open who both materially improve the squad. We have a world-class Sporting Director in charge of negotiations who has been in situ for 3 weeks or so.
Patience is a virtue bud.
