Nick Pope has arrived on Tyneside for his medical ahead of a £10m move according to multiple outlets. We should see signing number two confirmed by the weekend.
Nick Pope has arrived on Tyneside for his Newcastle United medical ?
Newcastle agreed a fee in the region of £10m for the Burnley goalkeeper earlier this week ?
Pope set to become Eddie Howe’s second signing of the summer following Matt Targett #NUFC— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) June 23, 2022
Pope is an outstanding signing at the fee mentioned. His shot-stopping is elite while his distribution should improve under the tutelage of Eddie Howe. The 30-year-old will provide Martin Dubravka the competition he needs.
It’s not all roses in the headlines today. A couple of reports are putting a damper on the breakthrough for Pope. The Mail is reporting that Chelsea and Tottenham have enquired about Allan Saint-Maximin.
Newcastle set a price tag of £40m for the 25-year-old which the two Champions League clubs balked at. In the process, Saint-Maximin’s head was turned by the higher wages on offer at Chelsea and Spurs.
The crux of the report is that Saint-Maximin wants an improved contract on the one he signed in October of 2020. Newcastle are currently unwilling to enter talks with the Frenchman. We’ll see if anything comes from these claims.
90min is reporting that Newcastle have walked away from a deal to sign Hugo Ekitike due to his representatives’ excessive demands. The report claims personal terms have been agreed with the 20-year-old but additional fees to his agents have complicated matters.
Newcastle, however, remain interested in the Frenchman but will not come back to the table until his agents change their tune. They are reportedly now concentrating on other targets.
I take both of these reports with a healthy amount of skepticism. They have yet to be backed by other outlets so time will tell how accurate they are.

Comment #83Medical for a goal keeper…. Can you see that spherical object in front of you and stop it going past you? The Puglet is available for all football medicals.

Comment #85I’m so baffled FIFA haven’t done something about agents in the game. They need to be regulated.
I used to work in talent agent land (not football but film and TV based) and the way it works there is it’s the CLIENT ie. actor, writer etc who pays the agent NOT the production company.
Rule of thumb is they charge 12.5% of their earnings to the agent and in return the agent gets them jobs, negotiates fees for them (making it more in their interest to get a good one as they get a cut of it) and negotiate all the legalities of it.
This is how it should work in football. Not these parasites who sign players when they are kids and sponge off them for the next 15-20 years claiming HUGE fees for doing very little. It’s essentially the agent part owning the player is how I see it which FIFA should outlaw.

Impossible, momentum means a lot for a striker.

Comment #87Jail yes 16 League games. Starting, coming off injured or just substituted does not count. So 16 Starts

Comment #88Tyran, I understand that and it is a very good point. However, if they know that they play every other game, that still is momentum but protects the guys who score.

So let say the player decide to join a club, what chance the agent have to stop it? What’s your input on this?

Comment #90If Wilson could do a whole season, he would be #9 England. Kane would be #10 if you are asking

Comment #91Tyran, in this case the agent is his brother. Regardless, the agent should be working for the player not in his/her self interest.

I meant if the player already decided to join, doubt the agent can do much to stop it.

Comment #106If Maxi wants to leave, then he should. He’s not irreplaceable, even though it would be a shame to lose him. More importantly I don’t think the club should start renegotiating contracts mid-term just because we now have super rich owners. Things should take their natural cycle of review unless there are exceptional circumstances otherwise it will cause discontent. But we should give the squad an excellent financial incentive for finishing higher in the league next season.

You can get return flights from Belfast to Newcastle from anything between £40 to £70 mate, if memory serves me right my flight over to the match in January was £70 if that helps with taking you and your lad over this coming season mate? HWTL
