Sky Sports Provides The Latest News On Ekitike Pursuit

Keith Downie of Sky Sports has provided an update on Newcastle’s pursuit of Hugo Ekitike. Downie basically backs Luke Edwards’s assessment that the deal is not dead but has hit a stumbling block.

Here is a video of Downie’s report posted by NUFC360.

The positive news is that talks are continuing and have not broken down. However, they have been described by Downie’s sources as being very difficult. Newcastle have yet to give throw in the towel on their number one target.

The move has stalled significantly as it was originally hoped the striker would be on Tyneside this week for his medical. Unfortunately, talks with Ekitike’s representatives have hit a stumbling block and not progressed.

One area of concern is that PSG are interested. However, Ekitike reportedly has sought assurances from Newcastle that he would get guaranteed minutes on the pitch. He’ll not get that at PSG.

In other news, an announcement watch is on as Nick Pope has put pen to paper on a four-year deal according to Fabrizio Romano.

I’m not a cricket fan but I recall a radio comentry (I think it was radio but it may well have been TV)

    “The Batsman’s Holding – The Bowler’s Willie”

For those that weren’t around at the time….

The Batsman was Indian and called “Holding” and The Bowler was English and called “Willie” a rather unfortunate comment on air!

I’d try and get Janmaat to come out of retirement. He’s better than Krafth, Manquillo and Trippier. Great player.

Well pleased about Pope – it’s gonna be a battle royal between Pope & Dubs

But…. that’s the way it should be of course. No certain starters every place has to be earned!

Jail, where would a poor little puglet get hold of £20?

Ok stole it from Peter. Bet taken my £20 into SBR tomorrow, saves losing the bet in February 🙂

17 starts needed. No subs etc. And, will include England games if he gets a surprising call up.

Repost – sorry, missed the boat

@Tyran21 – sorry, I misunderstood – feels strange but that would never happen in the agent land I worked in. If a client desperately wanted to do a project an agent wouldn’t stand in the way of that. Because if they did, they’d risk getting fired.

It seems to me if Ekitike wants to come he could force his agent to accept smaller fee, offer to pay some of the fee himself, or… and this is what would happen when I worked in talent agenting, he fires the agent or threatens to to push the move through.

But this is football where I assume the client / player doesn’t actually pay the agent anything?! Which is strange to me. Instead the agent always gets a fee from the club. So the club has to pay: The selling club, The Player AND the Agent?!

Something is so wrong with the system.

When you buy a house you pay the seller who in turn gives a cut of the price to the agent. That’s it.

In football it’s in an agent’s best interest to have his client move as often as possible to ensure they can keep leveraging ‘fees’ from all these clubs.

That famous commentary never actually happened, but it’s become a mythical truth over the years. At least I think so. Brian Johnston and Jonathan Agnew were on TMS when it didn’t happen, but they both had a fit of giggles about the potential innuendo. I may have that all wrong of course.

Jail, the bet is now £25 as they had options for payment and £20 did not appear. £31.25 with gift aid. Paid.

But trust the Puglet he will hound you until the bet is lost. 🙂

What rattles me is agents have turned the whole transfer procedure into a business.

There is so much money in football that I fail to understand how agents are allowed to charge a fee for a transfer. It should be the player who pays a cut of his wages to his agent who represents him.

    Very strange.

Super Shearer, re the agents in football.
    Why are we all surprised.
We all love the sport, but there are too many fu**wits involved in the game, from administrators to players to agents. Corruption everywhere. I’m sure back in the day cash bungs were regular. It’s why it needs regulating, and agents should be top of the to do list.

Anyone know a way to watch tv free.
Wanna kick the contract into touch. Haven’t a clue what the best, easiest and free-est way is.
Or is it just a case of stream content as and when?

    Any tips appreciated!

I hope you lose that bet in tremendous fashion as it’ll mean Wilson has had an excellent season!

Knowing our luck though, he’ll get called up and get knackered in Qatar 🙁

I have to admit to being slightly (or more so) P!ssed off at the delays holding up the deals for Ekitike & Botman.

But then again I would imagine that the Management of Newcastle United must also be P’d off.

Patience is a virtue and all that!

I think it’ll always be hard work being an NUFC fan

When we win our first cup or league there will be a massive blast of relief that will be felt as far away as Middlesbrough also properties in Sunderland may get damaged by the blast!

It was a spoof letter sent into TMS where the writer told Johnston to be more careful with his words and accused him of saying those immortal words. The letter was signed, Tess Tickle

Google it. You’ll find a YouTube clip of Baxter and Blofeld admitting it didn’t happen live. It was Jonners reading the letter that accused him of saying it, from Tess Tickle. Complete wind up but funny all the same. But it’s been talked about so much it actually happened. We’ll he did say those words but not whilst actively commentating on the game.

Perhaps Jail can run a post, how many games will Wilson start?

    CF,

I suppose Qatar will probably be Wilson’s last chance for a major tournament with England and if he’s banging them in from the seasons outset he has to go. Southgate has his favourites though.

But if he does get in there, we’ll be watching through our fingers when he’s playing 😆

    Count – re the TV.
I am not fully up to date with what the UK law says about TV Licences. But only yesterday me and the missus were discussing this – ie no longer paying for a TV licence.

We had paid every year for decades to the Beeb. Beeb used to be quality but not now.
The money we earn is going to the likes of Lineker, June Sarpong and other lefty knackers.

The daughter stopped paying years ago – had the Beeb at the door but she maintained she did not have a telly and refused to let them in.

I’m thinking of doing the same. Would rather pay a charity to help people in need.

Other interesting point raised which I had forgotten about years ago was that football agents were at one time licenced by FIFA or Uefa. Then they binned it 20 years ago . And that is why we have the current problems. Need to read up on this.

Or no farther north than the north midlands… leeds!

Southgate’s ample nose bleeds after that.
