Newcastle have started sounding out alternatives to Hugo Ekitike as the situation continues to sour with his representatives. Chelsea’s Armando Broja and Nice’s Amine Gouiri are two names to pop up in the last week.
Multiple outlets are reporting that Newcastle have made an initial approach for Broja. The latest to do so is The Mail who reported yesterday that Newcastle are lining up a deal for the 20-year-old striker in the event the move for Hugo Ekitike continues to stall.
There is still lingering hope an agreement can be reached but patience is wearing thin. GiveMeSport has published the following comments from Sky Sports’ Keith Downie that portrays the gravity of the situation:
“I have to say, the longer this goes on, and the more noises that come out from his people and Newcastle are willing to walk away.
“I mean, it was described to me yesterday as Newcastle are getting frustrated because the whole transfer has been difficult. And I think that’s putting it lightly to be honest. I think they are getting frustrated.”
Both Broja and Gouiri would cost around the amount Newcastle have already agreed on with Reims for Ekitike. Broja has the added bonus of a full season of Premier League football under his belt.
The Albanian’s ceiling may not be as high as Ekitike’s. He possesses the potential to evolve into an excellent Premier League striker. He scored 9 times on loan at St. Mary’s and should only improve as he develops.
Gouiri is a player who could rival Ekitike’s potential. The Frenchman, at 22, is more of a finished product than his compatriot. While he may not be the goal machine Newcastle covet, his creativity in the final third could prove more advantageous in the end.

Ian Ridley, Agents, all I know is they’re an evil presence in football,
How they have been allowed to thrive, and take huge amount of money out of football, I just don’t get.
It’s probably their fault that football is in a state. With smaller clubs going to the wall. They’re parasites

The corruption in football starts at the top and for all time. Not a new concept!
Agent agents are just the newest variation of the disease… I’m afraid.
Following really bad role models!

Comment #12This is going to be a unique season with the WC break scheduled between 13/11 to 25/12. It will give Eddie Howe to reassess the team before the January window and hopefully we get more quality players in and hopefully get a similar run in like last season for an European spot

Comment #16I do wonder if Ekitike is still reluctant to come here, that it’s too far out of his comfort zone at the moment and he could suffer for it if he does come in the end. Maybe they are just drawing things out to see if psg (or some other team) will eventually come in for him

Comment #17With the squad we have at the moment i think we can finish about 8th but if we sign a couple of quality offensive players before the end of the window top six is a real possibility HWTL

Comment #20Just been looking at the squad
We really need a few strikers who are closer to the first team in the reservers/ kids
Right now weve got players who are just about out of the door and nowt else
Maybe we should targt a few younguns to step in when players get injured instead of playing people out of possition or changing formations

Comment #27Jail, a powerfully hopped glass of pop sounds disgusting. 6.5% makes it dangerous.
Sir Rhosis, here for a good time, not a long time? Or just unlucky? None of my beeswax of course, feel free to tell me to sling my hook and consider it done.
Now important stuff. A part of the Commonwealth has let us down. There is a shortage of Lambs rum. Went to Morrison’s to stock up, nothing. Nearby Asda superstore, nothing. Travelled a bit further to Sainsbury’s, nothing. Checked Tesco online and out of stock. 😮
Country’s going to the dogs I tell you. Any suggestions lads and lasses? Not a fan of Captain Morgan or the lighter Jamaican rums. Looking for a decent navy rum, heavy on the molasses. Me clacks bone dry. 😥

Comment #28Magicmac, the link you put up re Botman. I didn’t realise he’s two footed. That takes his signing past superb and onto genius level. Is this the most versatile defence we’ve ever had? You know, it just might be. 🙂

Comment #35If Botman signs early next week, that’s 3 out of 5 key signings in before any players return for pre-season. That’s excellent. How many other PL teams have done that? Villa perhaps?
Very confident we’ll still sign a striker and a right winger, plenty of time to go before the window closes.

Comment #36Just had a look at Amine Gouiri. 6 footer, quick feet, good on the ball and passing. Knows where the goal is. A goal or an assist every other game last season and only 22. Also coached by Patrick Viera. Definitely worth a look.

Comment #37We have too many defenders, even if you don’t include Lewis and Clark. You need 8 and might choose to go with 9, and we have 12, and may yet bring in another right sided centre back, which I think might be a good idea, and if we do, then five or six will need to be fixed up elsewhere, and as it now stands at least 4, which is a bit of a tall order, even if it’s just out on loans. Added to that you also have Gayle who needs to be moved on, Ritchie too. We’ll be working hard on it, but as we know from past experience, it isn’t easy, and there are quite a lot, and that may easily impact on incomings yet. I hope we do get those 6 or 7 out, because then we might just see some very exciting late additions, but as I said, it’s quite a task.

Evening Mate, yes i agree the fact Botman is two footed makes a huge difference, i watch a lot of Newcastle Podcasts, and a lot of the lads on the podcasts were saying it would be a straight battle between Dan Burn and Botman as both were left footed, so they obviously were not aware either, so his versatility adds a huge dimension going forward mate.

Comment #40Not a lover of gin although felt duty bound to try Jonge Jenever when in Holland. Big Alistair Maclean fan at the time. Blackberry flavour was dangerously easy to drink. Also a fan of Portuguese red wines and of course by extension Port. I used to make my own, really need to start again .
