Newcastle have yet to announce the signing of Sven Botman from Lille. The 22-year-old completed his move yesterday and even took to social media to give his farewells to the Lille faithful.
Botman is Eddie Howe’s third capture of the summer. He’ll link up with his new teammates when pre-season gets underway later this week. There is also a photograph of Eddie Howe returning to Newcastle from Southampton this morning.

The Chronicle has reached out to Botman’s former boss at Lille, Jocelyn Gourvennec. The 50-year-old replaced Christophe Galtier last summer but was let go earlier this month.
Gournennec has revealed some intriguing information about Newcastle’s January pursuit of Botman. He states the Dutchman was ‘disturbed’ at not being allowed to join in the winter. He also confirms Newcastle have captured the defender.
Here is what Sven’s former boss had to say:
“Sven was speaking with the president [Olivier Letang] and wanted to speak to me, too,” the former Lille boss told ChronicleLive. “I said to him, ‘If you have Newcastle now in January, you will have Newcastle in the summer. I think it’s better to stay here, to finish your job.’
“We had to prepare for the Champions League against Chelsea. He was a little bit disturbed because he didn’t know if he had to accept that in January, but he understood he could finish the job in Lille.
“It’s never easy to arrive at a club in January. To adapt is never ideal. He made a good choice to wait. Now I think it will be OK for him. He deserves it.
“It’s a good choice for him because he will discover the Premier League. He has all the qualities to perform in the Premier League – I have no doubt about that.
“He’s not a star at the moment but people and other players will discover him. You can’t be wrong if you made a choice to recruit Sven Botman.”
Reports that Sven didn’t fancy a move to St. James’ Park appears to have been drummed up by the Italian press. AC Milan were in hot pursuit but were unable to reach an agreement with Lille.
Botman has been keen on joining Newcastle for over six months. He has now gotten his move as he signed a five-year contract on Monday. All that remains is his unveiling, which should be worth the wait.

I’ve just heard from a neighbour who got on, there’s very limited up in L7 and he had to have a child membership together to get two, I think the club have wasted a lot of people’s time this morning.

No easy way of selling these tickets given only 1k. Was always going to be a lottery. A mate of mine got one. Pleased for him as he had a pair of tickets for over 20 years but gave them up a few years ago when his wife became seriously ill.

It seems a bit random where they’ve been sold, maybe they were just getting rid of all the singles in between seats.

Comment #20I would much prefer a new stadium based in the City Centre, but if capacity we require could not be reached I would be happy enough to compromise outside of the City, but no further than 8 miles from the Centre. We’re Newcastle United, not Cramlington, Hexham or Morpeth United?

Comment #21Hope we never move from SJP.
I’m sure they can find a way to increase the capacity to 60k, which for me is perfect. Would always be sold out, which is important when you’re playing pointless CL matches. It’s going to get expensive following the toon and most fans have a financial ceiling. The city centre location makes SJP the envy of the PL. do not mess with it. If needed I’ll come up one dark night and sort out Leazes terrace! Only joking! Well only partly!

You’re right, it’s very fanciful to think we’d sell out dead rubber CL games on o cold November night.

There would be enough land for it at the bottom of lemington where reeds cranes used to be. Pretty close to the watta as well, could look fancy. Could get a boat shuttle gannin from the quayside. Supporters rolling down the gangways into the 100000 seater (20000 safe standing) would reinvigorate the lemington economy too. 😀

Nothing concrete just light rumours that no doubt is started by his agent.
If I could have any young striker it would be Raspadori.
