There’s a report in the Mirror today that Newcastle are back in for Jesse Lingard, who became a free agent on July 1st and has left Manchester United after 22 years at the club.
Newcastle had been keen on Lingard in January, but his Manchester club were not willing to let him go.
They wanted a large additional fee for him if Newcastle survived relegation, which of course we did quite easily with the superb coaching of Eddie Howe and 5 good signings in January.
Lingard would be a great fit at Newcastle, because not only is he an excellent player with massive Premier League experience, but he is also a positive character both off and on the field.
Jesse played 231 times for the Red Devils, with 35 goals and 21 assists.
Newcastle are reported to have recently talked to Lingard’s agents about a move to Tyneside, and no agreement has been reached with any club right now, with West Ham, Everton and Tottenham also interested.
With Premier League clubs back in preseason training, Lingard is well aware he needs to make a decision (very) soon, so he can get a full preseason before the Premier League kicks on Saturday, August 6th.
And to do that, he will need to significantly reduce his wage demands.
Lingard could play a huge role at Newcastle in the next few years if he decides to join us.
But his wage demands have been a problem, and Newcastle have proved to be very savvy and sensible in the transfer market, unlike clubs like Manchester City and Chelsea in the past.
Those two clubs basically bought Premier League titles with their massive (extremely massive) expenditures on players.
However, with Sporting Director Dan Ashworth now leading Newcastle’s transfer business this summer, don’t be surprised if we sign the former Red Devils forward.
It would be a win-win for Newcastle and the player.
What do you think?

Comment #2All this in fighting on the blog is just so tiresome, one reason I don’t come on every day, let’s meet up yawn yawn yawn.
What’s going to happen, two Newcastle fans fighting at an away game in a bar.
For the love of god, really, this is where you two got to, I don’t get it.
You two don’t like each other that’s clear, so here’s a wild fcuking idea, don’t comment on each other opinions and don’t even say the other persons name.
Sad day if you two end up fighting in a bar over I.H.M.S.

Comment #3Never thought 12 months ago I’d turn my nose up at lingaard, he had consistently scored goals but I think he was one of the problem kids at Utd. That spent his time doing silly dances etc.
Pass please think we can do better ( oh how times. Have changed )

Comment #6its time we started shifting players out the club, if no one wants them terminate there contracts fair enough maybe a little expensive but worth it in the end, no 10 required most urgently and a striker if this gorja is available at a reasonable price say 15-20 million fair enough anything over bye bye

Comment #7Morning all – new poster, really pleased to finally be joining the community. Been a toon fan all my life and a follower of the blog for about 8 years now.
Dr Ed, Neil, and family – thanks for the great reads over the years and the community you’ve created here. Keep up the great work, not said often enough but it’s massively appreciated.
Couple of things though, I’ve only just posted because this is the first time the sites ever let me login. Not sure if it’s an issue with WordPress. Also, not sure if other posters get it… but if I browse on my iPhone the site is being attacked by Adware – you get moved away to fraud sites immediately. Doesn’t happen on iPad, just mobile.
Looking forward to chatting football!

See Jesse is the latest player we are linked to, must be honest I think if we were going to sign him it would of been done by now, perhaps paper talk, Sunday and all that ?
Would have him mind, nowt wrong with England International on our books.
Been looking at Broja, DenniswiseTube …
I know he scored a few, just haven’t seen enough of him to be able to decide one way or another, do you lot rate him ?
If so is he at the level of
1. Big Al
2. Tino
3. Shola
4. Ba
5. Goddard
6. Kelly
7. G.Reilly
8. Pingel
9. Cole
10. Other
Just so I can decide chaps 🙂
I thank you

We have very similar minds mate 🙂
That’s how I see things ending up. Paqueta and Diaby statement signings backed by a couple of young attackers.
That’s a possible theory on Wood mate and tbh it’s a move I’d like to see.
Exciting times mate!

There is an absolute fortune to be made if they allowed all games to be pay per view. Billions of pounds!
I don’t know why they haven’t done it yet.

Comment #25On topic Lingard as a player would be great but if rumours of his wage demands are true then that would really unsettle the dressing room and ruin all the team spirit that Howe has established so just not worth it imo.

Good point mate. I know just before the takeover they started a media company so no doubt there will be some sort of package for them to watch the toon. Our profits will shoot up over the next few years and another reason why I say we will be fine in spending big money.
I have no doubt whatsoever they will take advantage of every opportunity that is possible to help build the club.

Sadly died on this day in 1916: Jimmy Stevenson, NUFC clinched his signature as they were to embark on their 1st season in Div 1. He scored 13 goals in 37 apps for us,but like so many of his generation WW1 was to end his life prematurely,he was killed in the battle of the Somme.
