There have been a couple of claims making the rounds that Newcastle have made an opening offer for Leeds winger Jack Harrison. Italy’s TuttoMercatoWeb and Football Insider are reporting that a bid has been submitted.
The report from Italy states the offer is £24m while Football Insider has it at just £18m. Both outlets are reporting that Leeds have or will reject the bid as it doesn’t meet their £35m valuation of the 25-year-old.
This could be the route Newcastle has to take to land Harrison. He has just 2 years remaining on his contract and uttered an unconvincing ‘We’ll see what happens’ when prompted on his future over the weekend.
Leeds boss Jesse Marsch is on record stating that he expects his goalscoring winger to remain at Elland Road this season. The American has already lost Raphinha to Barcelona and Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City.
However, that money has been recouped to cushion the blow. Marsch has added Brendan Aaronson, Luis Sinisterra, Tyler Adams, Rasmus Kristensen, and Marc Roja this summer to almost break even with their net spend.
An initial bid could unsettle Harrison and potentially force the situation. If he balks on a new contract, this window is the time to receive maximum value. Newcastle may be rewarded with patience but only if Leeds are forced to soften their stance.
In other news, Craig Hope has confirmed Newcastle hold an interest in RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko. Though he is just one of a number of targets under consideration at this time.
Understand Newcastle admire Salzburg forward Benjamin Sesko & 19-year-old is on list of names they’re exploring, but it has not moved beyond that at this stage #nufc

The player’s agent was spotted in Newcastle this week but an imminent move was quickly played down. The Slovenian certainly fits the profile of what Newcastle are looking for in this window.

I know mate…
The press put shit in people’s heads, then they believe it, then we all have to live with it, ’til eventually it’s unmasked as bollox, then they deny they started it.
Then round and round it goes again.
Boring as hell!
As mund says: who controls the media controls the world…in whatever sphere of life.

Comment #282IrishRob – selling clubs aren’t stupid. They’re not going to be influenced by what some journos and fans are saying. But they’ve always known we have money to spend and big plans.

Comment #283Harrison would be a great signing… I’ll keep saying it “stepping stone players” not worldies that some of the fans are demanding, players that take us to the next level.
Harrison is exactly that. He’s an upgrade on what we have and works his socks off for the team, exactly the kind of player Howe loves.
Can’t see it happening unless he pushes for it as Leeds will not want to lose another winger.
I have faith that our owners and recruitment team will get it right, we might see some cheeky loans with options to buy etc to get some upgrades in.
Enjoy this period of progress because it seems everyone I know who supports the likes of Man U, Liverpool and Chelsea (don’t know any City supporters) they just expect to win and be up there. When they have a drop in form they’re all miserable. Man U finished what, 6th last season and they’re all doom and gloom. Because they have been so spoiled by success.
Let’s not become that, it’s just sad. Enjoy the ride.

Comment #284Jack Harrison would be a quality signing. Diaby would be an amazing signing. I’d be happy with either, but if we got both I may accidentally rip it off at the hinge.

Even without signing a player Leicester aren’t going down. Their squad is still better than almost half of the other teams in the league and Rogers is a good manager, TalkShite really are the pits of sports media.

Comment #288Does anyone else think that the Harrison rumour could have been started…by the Harrisons? And then suddenly we end up signing Neil Harrison from some third tier US college league for £25m.
Just saying….

I can see Leicester doing better this season because all their players are back from injury with no Europa league
That makes a big difference if the squad isn’t that full of quality for a euro campaign

Agree, and not to mention Patson Daka has the attributes to be a top striker who has had a year to bed in so I expect his goal to game ratio to increase this season. It could actually be a pretty good year for Leicester with or without any major signings.

Comment #294From Waugh in The Athletic:-
The head coach paused a training session on Sunday and told his players, “If you are lethargic and don’t work as a team, you will get f*** all.” He then called on his “leaders” Burn and Trippier to demand more from the others.

Comment #295I really hope we haven’t bid the reported £18m for Harrison. That’s almost an insulting offer as he’s definitely worth more than that. I know you bid lower to negotiate and try to meet halfway somewhere, but that seems miles off of a fair price.

Newcastle are closely monitoring 18-year-old Carney Chukwuemeka’s contract stand-off with Aston Villa, suggesting that they could look to bolster their midfield ranks with a youngster who does not need to be registered in the 25-man Premier League squad, though he is also interesting leading European clubs.
Carney Chukwuemeka – good luck on getting a song for him then, what a name.

He left the blog a while ago like I said and he said then he would never be back on.
So maybe stop pointing fingers when that person isn’t here to defend himself.

Comment #299Any more of these penny pinching rumours regarding our owners only offering what they see as a fair price for players, i.e Harrison for 18M, he is worth far more than that, and we will get the nickname Arkwright`s.
Just rumours though, lets see where we are come Sept 1.
Some fans, including me were assuming we would get at least one marquee signing in this summer, simply because the arabs would want to seem a serious player, not here to mess about, so is Botman that marquee signing?
Nah, i reckon near the end of the window we will get a CF/AM which will have a lot of fans saying ” see, i told you so “

Harrison has played 124 times on the left and 81 times on the right. ASM always seemed more dangerous on the right too in my opinion. So would probably both be fine to play either side and could swap flanks during game regularly depending on what success they’re getting on their side.

Yeah i’d be very very surprised if that £18m bid is true as surely we don’t value him at that price? He’s worth closer to £30m easily with his stats in the league and his age. So i’d be surprised if that bid is accurate at all.

Comment #304The talksport conversation about Leicester was more about concern for them going forward. A few of their big players are ageing or contracts up, Vardy, Albrighton, Tielmans etc. Some of their recent big signings haven’t worked out Vestergard, Perez, Dakka etc. Plus a lot of teams around them are getting stronger and Leicester being a moderately small club albeit ran well, may not be able to compete.
I actually agree.

That`s why i totally dismiss BS stories like the one above re Harrison, no proof at all that the club have offered that amount.
He maybe not be worth 30M but , like CPN mentions above, he is certainly worth 25M.
I stand by my the point i made yesterday though, and that our supposed targets are now way down the pecking order from our original first choices, and that is a slight concern for me, but, like everything else, time will tell, come the beginning of Sept we will know where we stand.

Comment #310There’s nee way Leicester are getting relegated next season.
As LCBP say’s,they haven’t got the pressure of euro footy and have an excellent squad and manager.
The teams that are in the Europa league and the qualifiers of the CL,are in for a really tough season.
Because of the WC,the euro fixtures (once they kick in) are mental..Then add to that the midweek prem fixtures, these teams will be playing twice a week for about 10 weeks up until the WC..
