Newcastle Striker Undergoing Medical With Championship Club

The Telegraph’s John Percy is reporting that Stoke City are close to landing Newcastle striker Dwight Gayle. The 32-year-old has completed the initial part of his medical with confirmation expected by the end of the week.

Eddie Howe recently touched on Dwight’s situation at Newcastle confirming his future lies elsewhere. The poacher has not joined the group for the pre-season. He initially trained with the U21s along with Jeff Hendrick and Ciaran Clark.

Clark joined Sheffield United for a season-long loan while Hendrick has gone to Reading, where he has scored twice already in pre-season. It looks like Gayle will follow them out the door on what is reported to be a permanent deal.

Gayle is a proven Championship goalscorer who was outstanding in his inaugural season on Tyneside. Dwight scored 23 league goals that season to help fire Newcastle back into the Premier League.

However, he managed just 6 goals the following campaign before joining West Brom on loan for the 2019/20 season. Dwight found the back of the net 23 times helping the Baggies regain their top-flight status.

This is an excellent opportunity for Gayle with the Potters, who only had one player (Jacob Brown) reach double figures in goals last term. If Gayle can stay fit, he should be afforded plenty of chances to do what he does best, which is score goals for promotion-hungry sides.

Have you seen the article on ASM?

    Eddie.

“I wouldn’t say there’s a better player one v one, from an attacking perspective, than Maxi in world football.”

“But, man, the way he parks his Ferrari. It’s irritating his team mates. Takes like two spots! We will be talking to him about that!”

Eddie, love your sense of humour, lol.

Good one Cyprus. Nearly as good as Mrs Puglet going to Cyprus and trying to learn Greek….. only for her mum (1/2 Greek 1/2 french) to say I never liked Cyprus, …. to be fair lived in Khartoum

Pleased that we are shifting these players out, but I respect all of them for their service during the dark years. Beggars belief that anyone would join the shit show under Ashley.
Bit of golf chat now, and I’m not bigging myself up in any way. I am all too aware of my limitations on golf courses.
I play off 19. Can play decent but very inconsistent. Dropped 2 shots in first 7 holes, then dropped 19 in next 11 holes. And I was hitting the ball decent all day. Puts didn’t drop and trees just got in the way. Does your head in!

Surprised we have managed to get rid of gayle on a permanent given the wages he was on

Gayle certainly did a job for us in Champo.
I wish him good luck if it happens.
Still beats me why he was offered a new 3 year contract though.
Typical club decision under the previous owner.
Thank the lord them days are gone now.
A couple more quality signings should lead us into a good season hopefully.
    Patience is a virtue.
We,ve had 14 years in the wilderness and we ve survived that.

I find that some of the things the fat man did before selling the club to be intriguing. Like Gayles new contract, a long term sponsorship with Fun88. One would think that he knew he was going to sell the club and wanted to take a parting shot at the fans and the new owners.
    Conspiracy theory anyone?

onmeedsun – funny the way golf goes! I watched a Tommy Fleetwood video (I think it was with Rick Shiels too) and he advised to remember your 3 best shots and 1 lesson after every round.

My last round was a 93 and dropped my handicap from 27.9 to 25.2 but I dropped 6 shots on the last 2 holes. A couple of bogeys and I’d have gone under 90 for the first time. Rather than dwell on that, I’m remembering my 3 best shots and 1 lesson. For the record, that lesson is to take my medicine when I’m on a steep slope as it’s a shot I’m really not comfortable with. Hooked my 3 wood into the bushes on the 17th…

More pleasurable remembering those 3 best shots. 🙂

I think Matt Ritchie should be moved on too this window, and Darlow, and perhaps one of Manq, Krafth, or Fede, allowing two or even three more in.

ottawageordie2 – those decisions will all be about increasing the paper value of the club. Due to amortisation, a player’s value on the books reduces as their contract ticks down. So, he rendered the contract to ensure that a valuable asset had maximum value on the books. Similar for a long-term sponsorship contract too, or guarantees revenue for future years.

It’s BS but I think that’s essentially why he did it.

Good luck Dwight. Hope it works out for you.

Ritchie, Fernandez, Lewis, Matty L, Farlow are probably all surplus players.

Talk of Barbarosa. I honestly don’t think he’d work in English footy. Dives a lot and leaves his foot in (Brazilian footy). Red card magnet over here. But that’s just my opinion.

Did read about an interesting rule change being trialed in MLS2. Get sent off (to avoid easier games and play a rival), the ban is split between the team you got sent off against in the corresponding fixture and if you time waste for more than 15 seconds – you are forced to leave the pitch for 3 minutes (a sin bin of sorts).

    Original ideas.

Wait a minute. She didn’t like Cyprus, compared to… Khartoum? Am I reading that right or is it Chinese*

    Alrighty then 🙂

    * FYI, greek speakers don’t say, “it’s greek to me” when it’s difficult, as that would be dead easy for them. It’s Chinese to them.

I wouldn’t be moving Krafth on. He’s become a very reliable player and Trippier is getting on perhaps more susceptible to injuries
