Claims that Newcastle have made an initial offer for Leeds winger Jack Harrison has been confirmed by The Atletic’s Chris Waugh. Both TuttoMercato Web and Football Insider reported the bid on Wednesday.
It appears that Football Insider’s report, which had the bid at £18m, was close to accurate. Waugh is reporting Newcastle have offered just £17m for the 25-year-old winger, though the timing of that bid isn’t clear.
Newcastle rate Harrison at a ceiling of £25m, so they will go nowhere near the £35m Leeds have set as his price tag. If this move is to happen, Leeds is going to have be swayed which looks unlikely at the moment.
The hunt for attacking reinforcements trudges along. RB Salzburg striker Benjamin Sesko hit the headlines yesterday. The Mail’s Craig Hope has confirmed he is on the shortlist at St. James’ Park.
The player’s agent made a buzz on Tyneside yesterday with his Instagram story, which was later deleted. Salzburg have told The Chronicle the following on their prized young striker:
“The situation is very clear. Benjamin Sesko is a young and very important player for FC Red Bull Salzburg with a long-term contract and we are planning to play with him the season.”
Salzburg are reluctant to sell Sesko, who they plan to heavily rely on this season after the departure of Karim Adeyemi to Dortmund. Newcastle may decide to push the situation as yet another target could be heading elsewhere.
Multiple outlets are reporting that Southampton have reached an agreement for Bordeaux’s striker Sekou Mara. The deal is for an initial £11m plus add-ons. If Newcastle are at all interested in the talented 19-year-old, they may have to hijack his move to St Mary’s
????????: Southampton are set to beat Newcastle to the signing of young Bordeaux striker Sékou Mara.
Saints have agreed a deal worth £11m with add-ons for the 19-year-old.

Newspapers banned from NUFC
Journalists the Newcastle Journal, Evening Chronicle and Sunday Sun have been banned indefinitely from all media events at Newcastle United. The club is unhappy with the way the newspapers covered a demonstration against its owner Mike Ashley.

Comment #20Agree that £18m would be a ridiculous offer for Harrison, no way would Leeds sell for that.
Don’t believe we have a clue what has been offered, if anything, though. Seems to have a little substance to it but it’s a pretty obvious one to come up with.
I still think that signing 1 winger this summer will make this window a success. I’d love to see a striker come in too but in terms of progress, that winger is a key part of the jigsaw. We need a genuine threat from both wings to free up space and create more chances.

I totally get that there is still a way to go in the window but EH wanted players in asap for pre season which is almost over now. Would love for us to get Sesco and Madueke and Harrison’s stats can’t be dismissed even if he hasn’t got the gloss of a Diaby.

Comment #22Sadly the combined efforts of Miggy, Murphy, Fraser and Ritchie just don’t cut it and they’ve all had so many chances but their consistency is their inconsistency, nowhere near enough goals and assists between the lot of them.

Comment #23Rotonda – every manager would say they want that though but it’s virtually never achieved. If Ekitike hadn’t messed around and Diaby was available for a reasonable price then maybe we’d have them both but that’s all ifs and buts really. We’ve done very well to get Targett, Pope, and Botman in. Let’s be honest, we wouldn’t have had a hope of getting Targett or Botman last summer.

Comment #24Lads, be very carefull about the Mara/Southampton news!
To explain:
This afternoon, Bordeaux will have a tremendous meeting with the Comité national Olympique du sport français ( national french sport Olympic committee).
Due to their financials issues, they are playing their survival: if they can’t give financials guarantees and show some expected incomes for the next weeks, they will be relegated in the french THIRD division.
So they had to announce something, and in my opinion, to produce something for the committee…
But here’s the thing: the contract itself can’t be signed until the medical tests, wich mean, Mara can’t be an official recruit of Southampton BEFORE the meeting.
So… perhaps they got some kind of a pre contract, to convince the committee, but i think, we still can highjack the deal.
If we want the lad, it’s feasible.
Here’s my opinion: we don’t want him.
Cause with all the respect due to Southampton, we’re a far more interesting club at the moment, and i told you several time in the past days, the opportunity was there, it was the time to move due to the situation of Bordeaux, so i can’t imagine the board missed the chance when it was so obvious.
They perfectly knew about the timing, the context and so on, so if they did nothing, the conclusion is obvious:
They didn’t want him.

Comment #25While I think Harrison is a decent player, that would leave us with ASM, Fraser, Almiron and Harrison who all prefer to play on the left.
I’d much rather we signed a genuine right winger.

Don’t agree on either Miggy or Fraser, Murphy is also debatable although Ritchie should have been sold years ago.
I think those three would have had much better stats towards the end of the season if Wood was able to score.
Miggy made 7 key passes and 22 passes into the box.
Fraser – 3 assists, 12 key passes and 94 passes into the box.
Murphy – 2 assists, 21 key passes and 70 passes into the box.
Most of the above (bar Fraser) came after Wood was signed, and a more potent finisher may have led to some of those stats being more assists. Not to mention most of Miggy’s appearances were from the bench (same with Murphy as well)

Mitro is a terrible PL striker, as has been proven numerous times. If he bangs them in this season then fair enough, but I expect him to end the season on single digits once more.

Comment #30Fraser, Almiron, and Murphy have worked hard for our club and are solid players. I do think we need someone more threatening and of higher quality as a winger but at least 2 of those players will probably stick around to provide backup and options from the bench. I’d be very surprised if Ritchie stays though.

Comment #31If Mitrovic was a good PL striker then a PL team would have bought him from Fulham before. He’s very much a confidence player so I think he’s perfectly suited to being the main man at Fulham and really thrives when he’s banging in the goals against relatively poor opposition. Let’s see how he reacts when he goes a few games without scoring and is up against quality defences. Unless he’s matured a lot, he’ll just be sulking again and underperform.

Comment #32I would expect Mitro to do far better this year.
He is older, more experienced and he knows exactly what to expect in the Prem.
Mitro’s real issue in the Prem is a lack of pace, a serious lack of pace. That means Fulham have to get balls to him in the box, not ask or expect him to run the channels or drop back for link up play.
In the air, and receiving the ball in the box with his back to goal, Mitro is a serious threat to any defence as he has proven internationally.
Top Prem teams, and I include us in that bracket now, won’t set up to play to the strengths of Mitro ie., an old fashioned No.9. But, the likes of Fulham can, and should, because he will be the difference between another relegation and staying up.
I expect him to get 15-18 goals IF Fulham play in a Burnley style but with a bit more flair.
Bills Son Is Back
Jul 21, 2022 at 12:27 PM
Comment #33I still think there is a very decent Prem player in Miggy.
Bruce got him scoring but then swopped him round so many positions – winger, 10, deep lying CM, left and right WB – that Miggy just got totally mixed up about what and where his role was in the team. He clearly wasn’t happy and his agent’s talk about Miggy leaving defo had some truth in it.
Miggy, in the Prem, is best played as a winger where his speed, trickery, and willingness to drop back and help the FB are big assets. He has also shown that with his tail up he can score goals, he is defo one of those players who needs confidence in his game to calm down when a chance comes and not rush it. Two goals in the friendlies will have had a big effect on him.
And…
In the words of Keegan…
I’d love it, just love it…
If Miggy scored a blinder in a win against Man City to shove it right up Grealish who took the P out of him at their title bash.

Ofc he would mate but it’s not as easy as that is it…?
Every manager will want all who will be part of the squad for the coming season in as early as possible but there’s many variables to why that isn’t so straight forward. Tbh I cant recall Eddie saying that as even he must know it’s not that simple.
Don’t worry mate everything will be cushty

I don’t disagree.
But we would never get Mitro for £25M.
Wood was as near a panic buy as you can get. Wilson injured and no joy in the Jan transfer window for other targets.
Plus…
Wood came just as the team got the hang of playing the more possession based game that EH wanted which meant we never played to his strengths ie., getting crosses from the byeline into the box.
Mitro would have done no better then Wood if he’d had the same type of service.
I fully expect EH to use Wood as an impact sub this season and change play to give him the crosses that he can deliver on.

Comment #37How are lesser teams snapping up our targets, irritating how Southampton are beating us to players its really annoying. we need to stuff the lot of them and splash the cash, just sign paqueta diaby and a world class stiker, deal with FFP later. arsenal have spent over 130m so far so why cant we..
