Are Newcastle Setting The Stage For German U21 International?

While Eddie Howe chases two Premier League proven forwards in Chelsea’s Timo Werner and Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet, the initial plan this summer was to add a young attacker to the ranks. Though Hugo Ekitike’s move to PSG threw those plans into disarray.

Names of other young forwards have periodically hit the radar. Though none have stuck for very long with current links to young forwards practically non-existent. Most reports are now claiming that interest in Chelsea’s Armando Broja has cooled.

Sport Witness has cited some claims from Germany that Dortmund’s Ansgar Knauff is drawing interest from The Magpies, who have reportedly already made initial contact for the 20-year-old.

Knauff is currently on a year-and-a-half-long loan with Frankfurt, so a move this summer looks unlikely. Frankfurt don’t have a purchase option on him, so Newcastle could be setting the stage for a future move.

Knauff is a German U21 international who is also eligible for Ghana through his father. He primarily played on the right during his half-season with Frankfurt last term. Though he has played as a center-forward or on the left in the past.

He impressed on loan at The Waldstadion scoring 3 goals and playing provider for two others in 19 appearances. The report states his value is less than £10m, though that seems a little low.

While Knauff is on loan with Frankfurt for the upcoming campaign, his future with Dortmund is uncertain. His contract expires in 2024 so he’ll be entering his final year when his loan ends. With Newcastle making contact, he could be one to watch in future windows.

Can’t say I know anything about this lad, but it’s so good to see club going after young talent.

If Eddie and his scouts like a player and feel he’ll add to the squad, then that’s more than okay with me.

In an ideal world we’ll get Maddison/diaby
and Broja, but seeing the nufc tax and a player being linked to better clubs such as Real Madrid with broja, it may be a bridge too far at the moment.

Plus dortmund don’t take too many lemons, but whether they’d want to sell rather than loan him out for a season or two to build up his game and experience.

Hopefully Chelsea don’t push hard to sign Fofana. If they done a deal for him anywhere around £50m then I can see Leicester rejecting all approaches for Maddison. No need to sell if they get the money for Fofana.

Shola…love reading your comments re NUFC. Comments re womens football, not so much. A bit silly saying Blyth will beat winners, because they are physiologically so different. It’s like saying Blyth will beat the winners of the national U13s boys winners (if there was such a competition)…physiologically so different.

The winners of this will be the best womens team (not mens).

Bambams, he would be more like “our guy”, rather than Leicester’s ex guy, if u know what I mean. Maybe we are trying to pressure a deal by using Maddison to smokr out his club.

By the way, I used to teach Jill Scott and Carly Telford (former England GK), and Mel Reay (Shearer’s cousin – female) used to coach them. Technically very good. And you have to remember, hardly any money, comparatively, goes into the women’s game.

Good England goal, but awful defending.

Quality of the game is pretty low for a cup final.

Munster I had heard he was linked to real. Although could be a non story and should like 99.9% of rumours be taken with a very large pinch of salt.

He isn’t getting anywhere ahead of a fit benzema, Rodrygo or Vinícius.

Certainly the fans would like to see Paqueta arrive for many reasons.
    Cornet seems a good move.
    Werner could be inspirational.

    Then Tiemans or Maddison?

    Missed anyone?

It’s more a comment on the spectacle.

Yes they will be the best women’s team and they are simply not impressive or entertaining.

No amount of browbeating or faux-hype will tell me otherwise.

I appreciate what you are getting at Shola but it was the comparison that was not fair IMHO. It’s the same sport but it’s played different because of different factors, such as those I have mentioned, e.g. physiological, finance, historical stature of the game, etc…. It has an entertainment value in my eyes.

Anyway, just saying what my thoughts are 🙂

Here’s a different query, sports-related. Would you rather watch an Olympics where athletes were legally and safely allowed to take steroids and other performance enhancing drugs, where you saw faster sprints, higher/longer jumps, etc…. compared to a ‘clean’ olympics? Which Olympics would you go watch if both were on? I think the competitive nature in us want to see the best….the strongest, the fastest, etc….

I ask this because it’s probably the same when watching the womens and then comparing to the mens.

Yeah, I’ve always said there should be two Olympics.

I’d watch both because both would be more impressive than anything I could see down my local park on a Sunday.

Women’s football is like those regional UK wrestling shows with the fake 6ft 1 200lb Undertaker, only the kids are in awe of, which the adults just go along with for their enjoyment 😆

Thats the men’s game not the womens.
    They’re two different sports.
Fair play to Englands womens team, the best in europe.
I find it a difficult watch, but one or two players are decent. Williamson the skipper is canny, but to compare her to Maldini in commentary is cringy at best.
