Newcastle Launch Second Bid For Playmaker – Report

Newcastle have launched a second bid for Leicester City’s James Maddison. The latest offer exceeds £45m which is a marginal improvement over the first bid of around £35-40m.

Here is the latest on the pursuit of Maddison from Luke Edwards with The Telegraph.

Leicester will likely reject this second bid outright. It falls well short of their £60m valuation and doesn’t appear to contain a large down payment. The bid, as Edwards suggests, could be an attempt to turn Maddison’s head.

Newcastle have been encouraged that Maddison is keen on the move. The 25-year-old has just two years left on his contract, so barring a new one, this could be the time for Leicester to get top value.

Maddison has become the primary target ahead of the season opener against Nottingham Forest on Saturday. Though negotiations are underway for Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet, who has a £17.5m release clause.

A loan proposal is also sitting on Thomas Tuchel’s desk for Timo Werner. Though any movement for the German will likely not occur until later in the window as Tuchel continues his recruitment drive.

Newcastle are willing to pay a loan fee as well as a portion of Werner’s wages – believed to be 50% of the £270k/week salary according to The Chronicle. The Magpies face significant competition as his former club RB Leipzig as well as the mighty Juventus are also interested.

If we sign Maddison he’s in the England squad by Christmas guaranteed. They seem to love us all of a sudden.

Call it as it is and learn to drop your hatred. If the guy gets first dibs, does he not get the credit? Maybe not in your world but most will give a guy the benefit of the doubt. Every dog has his day and Romano quoting him is a tip of the cap to him.

You can slaughter Edwards when he deserves it, and he will, but it looks pretty bitter that you can’t even contemplate giving the guy the benefit of the doubt. A vous le choix as they say in France.

“Well done for spotting that scam attempt”

Very plausible attempt. Started with text from N8tionwide

Saying E-Ticket.com were trying to make a charge of £578.85 to my credit card and to ring 0800 0465 874 if this was not you. When they started asking for PIN number I became suspicious and disconnected the call. I rang the Nationwide immediately and the scammer had tried 3 times to take £2339.37 re a “Tesco charge”. Almost a £7.5k hit!

Thankfully I got to my bank and put a stop on my card before the Bugga “charged” against my card.

The clue that I didn’t notice first was N8tionwide spelt in that manner instead of Nationwide. Be warned…..

Why do you think staggering the transfer payments helps FFP. It’s just cashflow it helps. FFP is driven by the overall transfer value, the length of contract and the players wages. Add ons to the transfer fee say 3 years down the line should we qualify for Europe would help FFP as those costs wouldn’t impact our profit until they crystallise. Trust me, I’m an accountant. But willing to change my view if you can convince me otherwise.

Although I’m a bit confused as I don’t know whether to believe these reporters or not now. Ho hum.

And of course last season wasn’t a relegation fight at all, that was just a mirage.

I don’t mind a difference of opinion, but I don’t like people presenting their opinion as gospel

It was no bodies fault that Ekitiki didn’t sign – he was trying for PSG and used our interest to tease a deal from and with PSG.

    Basically he was taking the P I S S!

Staggering the payments within football and transfers helps spread the costs across the financial years. So instead of saying we spent 50M on one player, for the financial year it will say 10M if it’s spread over 5 years.

Don’t know how it’s done anywhere else but that seems to be the way clubs try to work round FFP

Is there a question mark over Maddison’s temperament? Does he have troublesome extra-curricular activities? Not saying he does at all, but Howe will always take that into account when he’s looking at bringing a new player into his squad.

There’s no doubting the lad’s ability and talent on the pitch, he’ll run and run for you, but if we’re genuinely making a bid for him the Eddie would also have done his homework on Maddison’s character and attitude outside of the game too.

What the silly man doesn’t understand is updates are from real time situations and any man with half a brain knows band especially in football that things can change very quickly. I said both Botman and Ekitike would sign but nowt said on Botman who is here now and according to the idiot he was to slow and not made for this league

Mund i think what we are saying is the staggered payments are for cashflow and nothing to do with FFP. That’s the confusion. FFP doesn’t give a damn how and when you pay for someone its based on an international accountancy practice for recognising assets on your books
