Sky Sports is backing claims that Newcastle have launched a second bid for Leicester City’s James Maddison. They are reporting the bid is for £50m, which includes add-ons. That is along the lines of what Luke Edwards broke earlier when he reported a structured bid exceeding £45m had been submitted.
Newcastle have gone in with an improved offer for Leicester’s James Maddison, according to colleague @skysports_sheth.
We’re told their second bid is £50m, including add-ons.
Newcastle had £40m offer rejected at the weekend, Leicester value Maddison at £60m #NUFC— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) August 1, 2022
This offer is just £10m off of Leicester’s valuation and would eclipse Newcastle’s record transfer, believed to be around £40m for Joelinton. There are no reports yet of Leicester’s response to the bid.
Newcastle have gone all in on Maddison as he is now the priority target. Depending on how the deal is structured, there could be little left in the budget for a second attacker if Leicester do accept this offer.
This could signal that the pursuit of Maxwel Cornet has been put on the back burner pending the outcome of this latest bid. If Newcastle can land Maddison, focus would most likely shift to the loan market with Timo Werner in our sights.
There is news coming from Fabrizio Romano on Werner. He is reporting that RB Leipzig are making a significant push to bring the 26-year-old back to the Red Bull Arena. He also believes Newcastle have yet to hold talks.
Leipzig are now pushing more than Juventus for Timo Werner, after the meeting with Chelsea on Sunday – still waiting to see if there’s room for a swap deal. ???? #RBLeipzig
He’s the main target for RB Leipzig, leading the race over Juventus. No direct talks yet with Newcastle. https://t.co/YER55Jpx5c

Comment #1I think within football a lot of things are done differently than the outside world of that
So does it mean because one accountant has said something on it that a lot of financial experts and accountants have said otherwise, that means he is right and everyone else is wrong…?

Comment #6We’re getting Europe comfortably if we sign Maddison. No question about it. Its just whether it’s going to Europa or Champions.
On Werner can’t see us signing him amd could never really see it tbh, it’s not even the massive wages, I just can’t see them signing a higher profstriker than Wilson, not for another year or two. He’s too good, and you can’t bench a high profile striker or Wilson tbh.
Thinks its always going to be a young lad who has ability to cover for Wilson now but can get better. That’s why I wouldn’t be surprised if we signed that Sesko lad even if he’s expensive. He’s the exact type of profile I feel we are looking for.
They are considering so many things when buying players imo, things like squad Harmony and not wanting to alienate our bigger profile players I think is high on their list.
I definitely reckon it will be a young and talented lad whoever it will be. But I really do think Werner is going to come alive again at a new club.

Comment #8Maddison would be some signing however Leicester drive a hard bargain don’t think 60m will get it over the line. If it’s true we’ve upped our bid for Harrison I reckon we won’t be buying a cf …..looks like Eddie is trying to bring goals into the midfield …..could all be smoke and mirrors as I say seems a low ball offer for Maddison.

Comment #9Atm amongst all the clubs in Europe were 17 in expenditure and 7th for net spend.
A lot of clubs have spent big but also sold players for big profits.
If we sign Maddison alone this will boost us up to 4th overall expenditure and 2nd in net spend on 110M only 5m behind Barcelona.
Signing Maddison would almost certainly see us over take everyone in Europe on both fronts as we’re highly likely to buy at least one more player as a striker after that.
Barca aren’t spending anymore, neither are Arsenal or Bayern.
If we sign Maddison it’s almost certain we will be top of the pile for all European clubs for expenditure by the end of the summer.
Can’t really argue with that ambition from the owners can we.

I went to Sainsbury’s for a pizza today.
Took it to the checkout, that’ll be £5.60 sir. (It was the deluxe meat feast).
The till lady wore alarmingly bright blue eye shadow, it didn’t enhance her brown eyes one bit!
No no no no no, says me, I’ll give you £2 up front with 3 annual instalments of £1:20, but there will of course be a sell-on bonus for you should it move on to the in-laws before its best before date!
Have to admit, Sainsbury’s staff training is pretty good. Never saw her hit the “nutter button” before security were right there helping me back to my car!
Might ring for curry tonight instead, wonder what kind of Financial Fair Play policy they employ.

Comment #29I think if we signed Maddison, Cornet and Werner, it would have been a half-decent window. If think we’ll concede quite a few goals this season. Would like to see Lewis start ahead of Targett. Seems to have a lot more pace.

Werner is an upgrade on Wilson in almost every single way? Christ, I’ve heard it all now.
Also, Werner hasn’t contributed a goal/assist in every 2 games. His Premier League record is 10 goals and 13 assists in 56 games, which is a goal/assist every 2.43 games for a Chelsea side which was 3rd overall in the League in possession last season behind Manchester City and Liverpool.
In 33 games as a CF for Chelsea he has scored 6 goals. 6 in 33 and you reckon he’s better than Wilson? Give your head a wobble man.
