Sky Sports Confirms Second Maddison Bid As Leipzig Push For Werner

Sky Sports is backing claims that Newcastle have launched a second bid for Leicester City’s James Maddison. They are reporting the bid is for £50m, which includes add-ons. That is along the lines of what Luke Edwards broke earlier when he reported a structured bid exceeding £45m had been submitted.

This offer is just £10m off of Leicester’s valuation and would eclipse Newcastle’s record transfer, believed to be around £40m for Joelinton. There are no reports yet of Leicester’s response to the bid.

Newcastle have gone all in on Maddison as he is now the priority target. Depending on how the deal is structured, there could be little left in the budget for a second attacker if Leicester do accept this offer.

This could signal that the pursuit of Maxwel Cornet has been put on the back burner pending the outcome of this latest bid. If Newcastle can land Maddison, focus would most likely shift to the loan market with Timo Werner in our sights.

There is news coming from Fabrizio Romano on Werner. He is reporting that RB Leipzig are making a significant push to bring the 26-year-old back to the Red Bull Arena. He also believes Newcastle have yet to hold talks.

I don’t think Maddison is worth more than 50mill, but if we don’t spend that, we can surely spend it quickly ( although we cannot seem to do quick) on a winger and a young striker?

In terms of transfers to be done, I think the board are very keen to have a statement signing before the Forest match, even if they don’t play. Would be a great way to boost the start of the season. To date most fans think we’ve done ok, especially with Botman, but all of us are expecting more.

Think Maddison deal is going to happen to be honest and I recon we are guna end up paying the 60m for him. i think he’s worth it to be honest. proven premier league player and he will want to push to get into England squad.

Would have much preferred paqueta but we need new faces in and soon. and Maddison is a massive sign of intent and would be a great addition.

Maddison playing as a CAM just Infront of big jo and Bruno is a juicy thought.

onmeedsun – if you’ve studied the FFP rules as an accountant, then I hope that puts things to bed in terms of the debate about what they mean. Unless someone else can come along with similar credentials and has a different interpretation that is. And I’m hoping not!

I know how FFP works. There is really nothing complicated about it. I was just concerned that other bloggers had different interpretations and were unwittingly misleading others. Just helps if we’re all on the same page. And we will continue to discuss FFP as it’s going to control what we can spend, so it’s important. We don’t have a choice I’m afraid.

onmeedsun – my earlier point was that every few days there’s a debate about how FFP works. It’s factual, so it shouldn’t be that hard for someone (you in this case) to figure out how it works and tell people.

Then at least others can discuss how it might affect our transfer plans. I’m not objecting to FFP being mentioned, just getting tiresome seeing people debate how it works. Hoping today puts that to bed. I’ll read your earlier email properly to educate myself too. Off to bed now though!

    Onmeedsun,

I know you know what you are talking about when it comes to FFP.

I understand the majority of it, but I had one question that I hoped you could shed some light on.

If we sign a player for £40M on a four year contract (£10M / year amortization). What happens if he signs a new four year contract after being at the club two years? Does the residual amount then get amortized over the new four year period?

At the end of the day, despite some geezer claiming consistently that FFP doesnt concern us, it does. And thankfully the club is both wary of us building a reputation we don’t deserve, and conscious of the eyes on us, and the rules of the game. And that’s why there is a budget, and an idea of how to play that game.

Onmeed, solid insight earlier, as always.

And what are you all talking about.

Can we change to talking about quantum physics, I probably know more about that! 🙂

At the risk of putting a few noses out of joint I suggest that no one on the blog really understands FFP.

I’m certain that our owners do especially as we seem to have spent a small fortune on players already and seem fully prepared to spend a lot more.

Some clubs don’t appear to be restricted at all on their spending so if there’s a way around then I reckon our owners will have the savvy to exploit it and will do so.

Quantum Physics on the other hand is something that I’m sure they will not be something they’ll be looking exploit!

I can’t see how Dubravka is worth 30mill given that we got Pope for 10mill. If the club is serious about getting Maddison surely 50mill plus Dubravka would be a good deal for both parties. Darlow is a perfectly competent no.2 keeper.

I think it is just my understanding that we don’t need to count the full transfer fee in the first year of the transfer. You seem to say that we do. Maybe I am misunderstanding you or the rule. So whatever the fact of the matter is then so be it.

    On contracts,

Is 5 year the most you can offer or is it just than any higher is dangerous? Could you be sneaky and offer a 20 year contract with the option to free the player (cost free) after 5 years if you choose to or he chooses to?

Few sounds of bid being rejected…But nothing concrete really.
Our hope of getting Maddison for less than 60m rest on him saying he wants to leave.

We should in parallel bid for Mason Mount just to piss Chelsea off.

Also if the fee is 30m plus 30m in incentives, I would assume only the 30m is amortised as the other 30m is only a potential payment. I’d guess That’s what we are doing?

    ZG,

Players I guess prefer 4 to 5 year contracts. Thers no guarantee of a wage increase after X years. So in a way they can get out of a club if they dont increase their wages after 3 years by forcing a move or entering last year of the contract.

Leicester may dilly dally till they get to know what theyr getting for Tielemens. Last year they may hav got close to 50m. This year they will struggle for 25m. If no one comes in for him, he leaves on a free!

    You’re not showing on the H2H D3

You need to enter the code on the FPL system (previously emailed to you by Neil).

Go to the TAB on FPL that says “invitational leagues and cups”

Enter the code when prompted for Ed Harrison’s H2H league 3.

Dubs 30 million?!? I think we have a tendency to over hype our own players. He is worth 5 million at the most. He is an ok kepper, but certainly not among the PL best and he is getting old even for a keeper. I always found it frustrating that he couldnt distribute and that he dont come out for crosses. That said, I was still happy about his time here, since he was better than any keeper we had for years when he arrived.

264 yards with a 7I did I read that correctly, surely not.
I can barely hit my 7I 130 yds, if I got my driver to go that distance I’d be delighted

If you can ping the ball that distance with a 7I and smack it 300+ yards with a driver you want to consider going pro.

Your short game must be terrible to have such a high handicap??
