Sky Sports is backing claims that Newcastle have launched a second bid for Leicester City’s James Maddison. They are reporting the bid is for £50m, which includes add-ons. That is along the lines of what Luke Edwards broke earlier when he reported a structured bid exceeding £45m had been submitted.
Newcastle have gone in with an improved offer for Leicester’s James Maddison, according to colleague @skysports_sheth.
We’re told their second bid is £50m, including add-ons.
Newcastle had £40m offer rejected at the weekend, Leicester value Maddison at £60m #NUFC— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) August 1, 2022
This offer is just £10m off of Leicester’s valuation and would eclipse Newcastle’s record transfer, believed to be around £40m for Joelinton. There are no reports yet of Leicester’s response to the bid.
Newcastle have gone all in on Maddison as he is now the priority target. Depending on how the deal is structured, there could be little left in the budget for a second attacker if Leicester do accept this offer.
This could signal that the pursuit of Maxwel Cornet has been put on the back burner pending the outcome of this latest bid. If Newcastle can land Maddison, focus would most likely shift to the loan market with Timo Werner in our sights.
There is news coming from Fabrizio Romano on Werner. He is reporting that RB Leipzig are making a significant push to bring the 26-year-old back to the Red Bull Arena. He also believes Newcastle have yet to hold talks.
Leipzig are now pushing more than Juventus for Timo Werner, after the meeting with Chelsea on Sunday – still waiting to see if there’s room for a swap deal. ???? #RBLeipzig
He’s the main target for RB Leipzig, leading the race over Juventus. No direct talks yet with Newcastle. https://t.co/YER55Jpx5c

Comment #201If losing dubs means we get Maddison then with the fact we signed pope earlier in the window i would more than happily sacrifice dubs.
It’s almost like these new owners have had a plan all along and it’s seems to be coming along nicely

Think they thought they would have made bigger in roads into the top 4 by now after winning the league.
They spent money for a while but it’s not like they are knocking on the door for top 4 anymore or winning cups.
Maybe the owners realised it’s gonna take deep pockets to do it every year and with the emergence of the Saudis they though there’s better ways to spend money and not win the league

Beating Germany is always good.
I watched the last 2 games and it was,nt bad but i doubt i,ll be rushing to watch any WSL games mind.
In no way can you compare the ladies game to the mens game. Media are overhyping them as they have to seen as pushing all minority issues.Bbc are the worst at this.they always have include women, gays, people if coluor in everthing they do.
Sorry if i am upstting anyone but its my oppinion and i cant change how i think..
I will probably be labled as homophobic, racist and a sexist but i am none of these things.
I just dont like the idea that minorities seem to be pushed forward at the expense of the majority.
Freedom of speech is important.

Comment #208If Pope is to be number one then loosing Dubs as his back up would be very risky.
Darlow may be competent but is perhaps not at the level an aspiring top 6 position club needs. The whole pace and dynamic of the team is different now and a dominating and athletic x keeper is a must..

Comment #209Loch risky yes but we are used to a bit of risk tactics from the days of the fat slug and Darlow had been an ok deputy for couple years now.
He can do another 6 months till we get someone better by Xmas or develop one of the young fellas

Comment #211Leicester spent big on their academy and training centre so it could be that. Transferwise they’ve been turning a profit I’d guess or at least doing OK.
Up for sale
Schmeichel (1m)
Maddison (60m)
Fofana (70m)
Tielemans (20m)
even talk of Vardy
They do have a glut of youths coming through, so maybe they know something we don’t.

Comment #216ZG, you have Fulham up there with West Ham, Villa, us? That’s higher than most.

Pope is statistically fifth best sweeper keeper in the world, so think it’s fair to say he’s better with the ball at his feet than you’re maybe giving him credit for.

Word is that Lampard wants away from Everton which is understandable. If Gerrard departs Villa perhaps they should swap jobs.
Fulham are at Southampton’s and Leicesters level I guess. West Ham are potentially top 8.
The league will be more clearly defined this season with a hell of a bun fight in the middle which we need to be clear of.

Comment #224I think Maddison will be sorted by the weekend.
Leicester need the money and Fofana is the only other player capable of commanding a big fee but I can’t see any club paying the £70M they want.
Maddison won’t be looking forward to a season that could be difficult with their lack of spending and with none of the top 6 making offers for him we are the next best thing + he plays in front a 50,000 crowd with a club bang in the media spotlight.
As was said last night, the second bid going in so quick has all three parties willing to a deal and it’s just the ‘who blinks first’ on the fee to be sorted + if Dubs is included he’ll have to be told he is defo 2nd choice here to be motivated to move.
Either way, I’ll be very surprised if this deal doesn’t happen.

Comment #229If we could get Cornet, I think it would be a scoop. I just hope he can sprinkle a bit of class up front and not flake out with his final ball. I know some people see him as a bit of a vanilla signing but I honestly think that he’d be mint.

Comment #230Leicester also last season had a terrible recruitment all of them on big wages pretty much flopped (Soumare, Lookman Vestegaard, Praet, Daka)
Leicester normally do get a gem of a player every season Dewsbury-Hall looks like the next one although he didn’t cost a lot
So they do have to sell to then bring in their next 4 or 5 players

I’m fairly sure you’re correct in that the residual value of any transfer fee gets amortised over the revised length of a players contract should the player be given an extension. So a reduced annual cost on the amortisation but most likely also an increase in annual wages.

As reported, second #nufc bid for Maddison appears to be lower than early claims. Newcastle chiefs firm in their valuation of players and won’t be pressured into paying over the odds. Talks continue but feels like a big gap between Newcastle and #LCFC valuation currently.

Conflicting views/info on the James Maddison second bid. The info I have personally is it’s more around the £40m mark with some add-ons. Unlikely to get the midfielder at that price unless Leicester change tact & decide they need to sell #NUFC #LFC
