Newcastle launched a second improved bid for Leicester City’s James Maddison on Monday. The details of this latest offer are uncertain but it is believed to be a structured bid in the region of £45-50m.
Football Insider is reporting that this second bid has been rejected though other outlets have not confirmed this just yet. However, it is expected that the Foxes, who value their midfielder at £60m, will again reject Newcastle’s offer.
It was also reported on Monday that Leicester have an interest in Martin Dubravka. The Mail’s Craig Hope posted the following on Twitter yesterday.
Leicester have shown an interest in NUFC goalkeeper Martin Dubravka but understand he is not yet part of the package for James Maddison. That could change, of course.
— Craig Hope (@CraigHope_DM) August 1, 2022
Leicester City stalwart Kasper Schmeichel is due for a medical at Nice this week according to multiple reports. The 35-year-old is in the final year of his contract and Brendan Rodgers has to sell to fund any new recruits.
The Foxes are trying their best to keep hold of their stars with Newcastle after Maddison and Chelsea keen on Wesley Fofana. Newcastle have also enquired about Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans but were quoted with high fees.
It’s unclear if a part-exchange deal can be worked out for Maddison with Dubravka heading to the King Power stadium. Eddie Howe may be reluctant to part with Martin as it significantly weakens his options in goal despite having four on the books at present.
The Foxes are on the prowl for a new shot-stopper with Wales international Danny Ward and Daniel Iversen the only senior keepers at the club. Their interest in Dubravka could be something to watch in the coming weeks.

The interest and the bid for Maddison is real but the finer details being said are not entirely true

Comment #5I wonder how our transfer team are determining values of players we are looking to buy?
So as a base we bought Joelinton for 40 million “apparently”, Rapinha went for 55 million and Sterling went for 47 (although only had one year left on contract) this summer
Maddison is English has some of the best stats in the league for an attacking midfielder at all clubs playing for Leicester! So Leicester would be well within their rights to be looking for 60 million especially when you consider Grealish…..
Stop farting about at 40 million and get the offer cranked up to 50 plus so we can present him to the fans before the game on Saturday…….

Comment #6Sky Sports also have their own agenda when it comes to transfers especially trying to get views and referrals to SkyBet!!
So many times you see a story and then at the bottom there is a little link for odds etc
BBC Sport is probably more reliable when they go all out with a front page bid confirmed kind of thing

Comment #8It’ll end up being a combination of £40m (which is the bit I am guessing we’re being firm on), addons based on future successes taking it up to the £50m they reported yesterday.
My guess is we’ll add Dubravka and whatever they still owe for Perez into the mix which takes it up to their £60m valuation. I think it will likely get there financially.
Then it boils down to how much the player wants the move really.
All IMO, of course.

I can definitely see the club using the owed payments in negotiations and also very possible is using Dubs in the deal.
Lots still to be played out on this but hopefully a deal can be done

Comment #14Newcastle won’t pay 60 million for Maddison in any combination of player, money owed and cash – Newcastle have a valuation and won’t exceed it for any player.

I must have forgotten to post it then so I’ll give it an airing now for old times sake…
I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o’er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of fkn Ashley shills;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Just fk right off with your PR sleaze

Comment #19So does the club get these installments from players like Perez?
Seeing as the club never got any benefits of them from Ashley and they seemed to disappear is the club now getting these or is Ashley still getting them?

Comment #21I really don’t want to see Dubravka leave as part of a Maddison deal. We need competition in every position and although Darlow is competent, he’s not competition for Pope. Dubravka is.
Secondly, for me there is a point about proven team integration and loyalty. Dubravka has proven his worth in goal and his ability to work well with the defence in the system Howe wants to play. He’s never let us down and is simply a quiet non-complaining professional who works well with his teammates.
If Dubravka had done something off the field that was wrong or had fallen out with his teammates, then the move would make sense. Otherwise, just give them the money they need instead. We should not be giving good players to teams we will be competing for position against. Some may think we’re going to finish above Leicester but as yet we haven’t.

Comment #24The Maddison deal will be done quick or not al all IMO.
Both us and Leicester can’t afford find the deal won’t work without enough time for us to find an alternative or Leicester to use the cash to buy without panicking close to the window end.
If it isn’t agreed by this weekend it won’t happen.
IMO.

Comment #31I don’t want to see Dubs go either.
However, what if the rumours are true, and he doesn’t want to play second fiddle to Pope?
Maybe he (his agent) is pushing for a move.
If that’s the case then using him to get Maddison wouldn’t be a bid decision at all, if it means we get Maddison. Because at the end of the day we would be losing Dubs to another club any way. Might as well secure ourselves a top class midfielder in the process.

Comment #34The club need to pull off the Madison deal having been knocked back on a few others. If we keep walking away from these deals we will not sign another top player. Is Maddison worth more than £40m? Absolutely yes. Is he worth £60m. Possibly, if he propels us into top 6 territory. So £50m would represent a good deal, with perhaps £10m of add ons based on European qualification in say 3 years. He’s only 25 and could be with us for a good 6 years. Get it done and be decisive. But we’ll still need a striker. Cornet or Dennis fine by me. Then shut the door and focus on the footy. Once we’ve offloaded a few more of course.

Comment #40onmeedsun – I’m pretty sure that the owners will want 1 statement signing in attack. Botman is an amazing signing for us in defence but we really want someone with a similar (or higher) status in attack and I’d have thought the owners are of the same opinion. It just makes sense.
So yes, getting someone of the calibre of Madison (or Diaby or even Paqueta) over the line and then getting a striker (Dennis, Kesko, whoever) in too will be job done for me.
