Leicester Have Interest In Magpie As Stalwart Set To Depart King Power Stadium

Newcastle launched a second improved bid for Leicester City’s James Maddison on Monday. The details of this latest offer are uncertain but it is believed to be a structured bid in the region of £45-50m.

Football Insider is reporting that this second bid has been rejected though other outlets have not confirmed this just yet. However, it is expected that the Foxes, who value their midfielder at £60m, will again reject Newcastle’s offer.

It was also reported on Monday that Leicester have an interest in Martin Dubravka. The Mail’s Craig Hope posted the following on Twitter yesterday.

Leicester City stalwart Kasper Schmeichel is due for a medical at Nice this week according to multiple reports. The 35-year-old is in the final year of his contract and Brendan Rodgers has to sell to fund any new recruits.

The Foxes are trying their best to keep hold of their stars with Newcastle after Maddison and Chelsea keen on Wesley Fofana. Newcastle have also enquired about Harvey Barnes and Youri Tielemans but were quoted with high fees.

It’s unclear if a part-exchange deal can be worked out for Maddison with Dubravka heading to the King Power stadium. Eddie Howe may be reluctant to part with Martin as it significantly weakens his options in goal despite having four on the books at present.

The Foxes are on the prowl for a new shot-stopper with Wales international Danny Ward and Daniel Iversen the only senior keepers at the club. Their interest in Dubravka could be something to watch in the coming weeks.

Dazzler, the more you read up on him the more you realise its kinda astonishing how he’s gone so quietly under the radar, and hasn’t been touted for a 100M move to the elite teams by now.

    @Irishrob

He got a bit of a bad rep over the last few years for partying, laughing gas that kind of thing

But as far as I know he’s become a dad and has settled down a good bit over the last season or two

You know what its like its very hard to get rid of a bad rep once you get it

He isn’t on Grealish level for taking the mick though when you see how wasted he still gets

Leicester City have obviously made it known that Maddison is for sale by leaking Newcastle United’s offer.
They are trying to drum up interest in Maddison and create a bidding war.
If we remain the only cab on the rank they will sell to us. However we may walk away and perhaps we already have but it seems that Leicester will now have an unsettled player on their books.

If the club are sticking firm around the £40m mark and won’t budge on what they deem to be their valuation of Maddison, then this will be the first time I will openly say that they’ve called this one badly wrong.

How anyone in the club can look at James Maddison and think he’s worth no more than £40m is baffling. While £60m is very much the top end of a fair valuation of him, it isn’t a ridiculous stretch given his undoubted talent.

While I remain optimistic a deal may be done, this optimism is waning slightly. It should be said that the owners really haven’t put a foot wrong at all since joining the club, so they’re bound to make a mistake or two eventually. This window may end up being one of those mistakes if we don’t get the talent we need over the line.

I think pope is an upgrade on dubs…i like dubs but recently he’s dropped a few bollicks and although myt not of cost us many points,i do believe it makes our defenders nervous as well as the fans which transmits onto the pitch, again causing an edgeyness….if dubs is to leave good luck but he should only be let go as part of a deal for maddison, sesko or werner would strengthen our team no end, cornet, im not so sure about… was he not injured a lot last season ….dont need more players with poor injury records….paqueta i doubt will happen, but would be happy if we got him.

Fofana leaving Leicester. Plenty of bucks for them so less pressure to sell Maddison and certainly not for a low ball offer.

Wonder how much we cud get Paqueta for, if there is any interest on our side?

Forget Maddison especially if its going to have to include Dubs leaving as it will just mean we’;re in the market for another competent goalkeeper. If that’s the case offer them Darlow as makeweight . However our top priority is a back up striker. We’ve already sold Gayle so Wood only back up for Wilson. We all know what’s going to happen if competition for Wilson isn’t brought in. Yeah, he gets injured a fortnight into the new season and then we’re stuffed.
No go all out for the young Salzburg Bulls lad and make him an offer he cant refuse. Even consider loaning him back to Salzburg till Xmas. This time next year his price will be double. If we also activate Cornet’s release clause at £17.5 M . Those two would do us, IMO, for this window after improvements shown in Miggy.

I really don’t understand the thinking that if we sell Dubs we’re in the market for a keeper. We won’t be. Pope has a fairly good injury record and hasn’t missed many games at all since a bad injury in 2018 so would be undisputed No 1, while Darlow is as good as most No 2 GKs in the league. While it would be preferable to have both around the club and to maintain the depth we have in that department, Dubs is more than good enough to start for another PL team so if that is what he wants to do, we shouldn’t stand in his way.

    Ruddy & Pottsclock,

I agree. It’s a little naive of the club/ownership not to expect (to be expected) to at least pay (what they may deem to be) overs for a player they truly want. If we really want to mix it with the top as they say then the day will come for a statement of intent in the way of big money for Player X. We see it in the other clubs.

Would hate to lose Dubravka in some swap deal. That hurts the dressing room. That ruffles feathers and is not a nice welcome for Madison to come into.

If we want him, pay up. Offer 60m up front and get in the player’s ear. Would love to see it.

Sesko he’s the one we want and need for young striker Cleveleys Bob. The unknown is just how much we have to spend this window after PIF raised the loan to still comply with fair play. Still plenty of wide man/midfield options like Hudson Odoi, Sarr , the other Watford lad Dennis at more realistic price levels but on the striking front I now feel its Broja on Loan or Sesko. Werner is not going to come and Calvert Lewin is far too expensive as another sick note.

Its not confirmed yet for Fofana to Chelsea which is why we should get Maddison signed up soon!

For me I am all team Maddison now haha his numbers last season were De Bruyne level in the premier league not Ligue 1!!

Although Pacqueta would also be good I suspect Lyon are looking for a lot more than the 40 million that keeps getting mentioned

Agreed. I mean, I see the desire to not have it seem like we have had our pants pulled down for a transfer, but dropping £50m-£60m on Maddison when Sterling went for £50m, Jesus was sold for £45m etc. it’s demonstrative of the going rate for those statement signings.

All we’ve done is create a market for Maddison and encouraged other clubs to get involved. The only benefit being that there doesn’t appear to be any appetite from Spurs, West Ham are an unlikely destination, Man United already have Eriksen, Arsenal have an abundance of talent in that position and Chelsea will not have both Maddison and Mount in their squad (though wouldn’t bet against it)

If we want a transformative player, we might need to break our bloody transfer record to do it.

I know that FFP is a thing and it’s obviously affecting transfer decisions but surely we could push a bit to get someone like Maddison? Could we not play around with figures over the next 3 years or so and hold back a bit then? You never know, we might even sell a player at some point and any fee would surely help

From what I know about FFP (which is limited to an extent but I have researched this), is that we have ample wiggle room with regards to FFP owing to the frugal way Ashley ran the club and the particular way FFP is calculated.

In short, we absolutely have the ability to bid £60m for a single player and be well within our FFP limitations.

Lot of structured sense being talked on here. Most are being completely realistic about our chances in the current transfer market. Some of these reporters are adding the hype especially the one who is putting news about to unsettle ASM and saying Chelsea ,Arsenal and Spurs may be interested in him.
We want to build a team round him not sell him. We are no longer a selling club!

If Fofana is going to Chelsea, then forget about Maddison. Leicester will milk Chelsea for at least 60m. And with that the Maddison links will die a natural death.

    West Lancs

I don’t think it’s a case of being “allowed” but rather that they have significantly greater commercial revenue with which they can offset their expenditure against whereas we’re seemingly being (overly) frugal until we increase our commercial revenue further.

My current frustration doesn’t lie with the fact that we’re being frugal. It is in the fact that we are trying to buy champagne players with beer money. If we were solely driven by value then surely we’d have sourced a reasonably priced 19-21 year old on the continent for around £20m? Indeed, our strategy seemed to start out that way as we identified Ekitike but then pivoted towards players with PL experience when that fell through – DCL, Toney, Harrison, Cornet and now Maddison, and while we may favour PL experience, that comes with its own added tax as well as any so-called “Newcastle tax” and we’ve either walked away or low-balled the selling clubs, which only serves to waste everyone’s time.

This sort of disjointed approach may have made sense when we had Mehrdad and Amanda urgently looking to bolster the squad in January, but makes less sense now we have Dan Ashworth, a hugely experienced operator, at the wheel.

Yes, we have a month to go, there is plenty of time, patience is a virtue etc. I just don’t see the point in getting fans’ hopes up by even bidding for Maddison if you won’t go the extra yard to properly get him over the line.

I suppose the one comfort is Maddison, Pacqueta, Sesko even Dennis, Sarr etc

All in play no one apart from Ettike has moved so there could be a few surprises left

Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and Spurs all look like they have done most of their business early

Man Utd and Chelsea still have work to do

But there could still be some decent players available in the last week or so that we can get that would improve us massively
