Newcastle Appear Unlikely To Reach Agreement For Maddison With Secondary Options Still Viable

Eddie Howe is still hopeful of a couple of attacking arrivals before the summer window slams shut. The sights are currently focused on James Maddison though there are other routes Newcastle can go down in their hunt for firepower upfront.

Newcastle are waiting to officially hear the fate of their second bid for James Maddison. Though it appears almost certain the Foxes will knock it back with Keith Downie’s revelation that it is closer to £40m than £50m.

Unless Newcastle break character and go beyond their valuation, it appears the playmaker may be yet another bridge too far this window. The owners have stuck to their guns and not caved for their priority attacking targets but so far come up empty-handed.

If the Maddison pursuit ends after two bids, the groundwork has been laid for Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet. The Ivorian has a release clause of £17.5m, though Newcastle have reportedly started negotiations on a structured deal worth slightly higher.

Watford duo Emmanuel Dennis and Ismaila Sarr are both available for the right price. The pair helped the Hornets down Sheffield United 1-0 last night, with Ciaran Clark making his debut for the Blades.

The price tag may be too steep for Newcastle’s taste. It would reportedly take £25m for Sarr and £20m for Dennis to pry them away from Vicarage Road. Watford would be more than happy to keep them around for their promotion push should acceptable bids not arrive.

Another secondary target is Marseille striker Bamba Dieng, who has been on and off the radar since January. News emerging from France is the 22-year-old has been frozen out at the Stade Velodrome due to excessive weight gain this summer. The report also claims Newcastle are no longer interested.

A player that has not hit our radar who could be a decent option is Inter Milan’s Andrea Pinamonti. Atalanta, our opponents last Friday, have a £15m plus add-ons offer on the table for the striker.

This morning Nottingham Forest have come in for the 23-year-old. Inter reportedly want around £18m for Pinamonti, who spent last season on loan with Empoli scoring 13 goals. He has just two years left on his contract and is an out-and-out striker.

There are decent options available that Newcastle can turn to later in the window. The focus right now is to add bonafide talents like James Maddison or Timo Werner on loan. The jury is still out on whether that proves successful.

Finished watching Moon Knight what a shower of shite that was. No idea what the hell was going on and was so boring. Maybe someone with a brain would enjoy it.

Watching Ms Marvel another shower of shite. These Marvel shows and movies are crap.

Only ones I enjoyed were Blade 1 and 2, Avengers Assemble, Captain America Winter Soldier and Civil War, Infinity War

Forget the two lads from Watford, both non starters.

Cornet is worthy of a berth.

Maddison has had it with Rodgers who’s probably wanting out of Leicester as he’s taken them as far as he can. He wants a new challenge while his reputation is intact. It won’t be of they end up bottom six.

    Transfer News
    @TransferChecker
I don’t like using social media activity as justification for transfers, but it does look like Wesley Fofana is trying to force a move from Leicester.

He has removed all traces of Leicester from his social media and then liked a tweet from someone who noticed the changes. #LCFC

It’s all very well not paying over the odds but how much will it cost us longterm if we have to settle for lesser players?

Jedi, the juries out for me. I’m waiting to see what Disney do to Daredevil, which was great on Netflix, proper adult stuff along with Jessica Jones etc, really gritty.

If Disney make it for kids, that’ll be me done.

All of this stuff is based on Graphic Novels or comics that already exist, so the story lines are largely “out there”. But some are really for adults so they have to maintain that integrity.

Sometimes you have to pay a bit over the odds for a game-changing talent. I truly believe that adding Maddison to the current squad gets us a European spot for next season. That would easily cover what might be a £10-15m difference in valuation for Maddison.

You’d think, based on Howe’s results to date, that there would be similar confidence inside the club.

I really hope that they can make this happen.

You cannot be serious if we don’t get Maddison after all the publicity it won’t look like we are determined to stick to our valuation, it will look like incompetence in my opinion.
We have £8m owed by Leicester for Perez and Leicester are after another goalie where we have a spare. Surely this is the basis for negotiation and Leicester have not said “he’s not for sale”!
    Come on get him in!

I hope they don’t mate and i didn’t consider them even doing that until you mentioned the concern above.

Daredevil was brilliant and best one so far IMO followed closely by the punisher. You cant dumb them down to PG level as it wouldn’t work would it.

Surely they will continue how ir was

Sell Maxi and bring in top talent with an end product Maddison.
Newcastle always have a show pony and we never get success with them!
Great ball players like Ben Arfa, Maxi etc but if they were that great the top 4 would be chasing them!
    Controversial I know but true!

Someone like Maddison on the right with the ability to float would be really great for ASM as well

Teams just couldn’t double mark him like they currently do as its just a quick overload on the other side for Maddison to have time on the ball

Maddison’s crosses for Wilson, Joelinton to get on the end of as well would be great

Luke Cage was above OK and Iron Fist went from just OK in Season 1 to crap in Season 2.

I’m seriously hoping that Disney don’t make them “Princesses and Mermaids”, there’s enough of that sh..te about already. 😉

Feels very much like it’s playing out exactly how every other failed bid has gone so far.

Personally I agree with Neil, think it’s dead unfortunately. We just seem obsessed with not paying more than we want, whether it’s a reasonable amount or not.

We will get people in, I’m sure the Cornets of this world are the guys on stand by who will most likely be the ones brought in near the end of the window.

Leicester need to sell, and sell big.

Only Maddison and Fofana will command big fees and I just don’t see any club paying c£50M for Fofana yet.

With no other club apparently interested in offering the same as us for Maddison, Leicester are in between a rock and a hard place.

There is still mileage in Maddison no matter what the journo’s come up with. Leicester will play hard ball, but only for so long to see whether we come back with one more improved offer.

I think we will, and the deal will be done, but a way under £60M.

    Absolutely!

Like you say Bob we have enough of all that rubbish but to keep those subscriptions coming you have to cater for all ages and I guess that’s what they are doing with the reboot of Daredevil.

Disney is laughing as they have Marvel and Star Wars. They will become the biggest of all if they aren’t already. Nobody can come close to what Disney can and will offer.

I’m a big fan of the formula they have for creating what they do and the more the merrier but yea definitely need to cater for the older fans.

I would put my faith in young Anderson in that position. I think he will be better than Maddison all the sooner if he gets plenty of playing time this season.

Its actually amazing the turnaround in the fortunes of Leicester and Newcastle

Leicester have been a club for us to envy and emulate for a few seasons but it seems their transfer dealings over the last season or so have really burst them far too many flops

I also see a lot of Leicester and other football fans that a “small” club like Newcastle can take their best player haha

Leicester were nowhere when Ashley bought us and they only got a chance to overtake because of the way we have been run well the tables have been turned lets take their best player in a power move !! Love it if it happens

What is going on man? first we put a bid in, got declined, put another bid in an nothing happens? is been the theme of this transfer window..

Why are we not pushing hard to get new attacking players through the door before the start of our season?

I’ve said it for ages, if Wilson, Bruno, or any of our good players get injured its taking us back a long way.

All other teams are strengthening heavily right now and we are falling behind big style.

Botman and pope are brilliant signings but I thought we would of pressed on and signed a few attacking players to build on a good start to the transfer window.

We’re losing out on all of our targets so far and although we still have time its getting worrying..

Sad the level of abuse on social media these days. Anyone going onto Twitter to send an abusive tweet to a footballer needs to get some counselling and needs to get off social media. It’s ridiculous.
