Newcastle Appear Unlikely To Reach Agreement For Maddison With Secondary Options Still Viable

Eddie Howe is still hopeful of a couple of attacking arrivals before the summer window slams shut. The sights are currently focused on James Maddison though there are other routes Newcastle can go down in their hunt for firepower upfront.

Newcastle are waiting to officially hear the fate of their second bid for James Maddison. Though it appears almost certain the Foxes will knock it back with Keith Downie’s revelation that it is closer to £40m than £50m.

Unless Newcastle break character and go beyond their valuation, it appears the playmaker may be yet another bridge too far this window. The owners have stuck to their guns and not caved for their priority attacking targets but so far come up empty-handed.

If the Maddison pursuit ends after two bids, the groundwork has been laid for Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet. The Ivorian has a release clause of £17.5m, though Newcastle have reportedly started negotiations on a structured deal worth slightly higher.

Watford duo Emmanuel Dennis and Ismaila Sarr are both available for the right price. The pair helped the Hornets down Sheffield United 1-0 last night, with Ciaran Clark making his debut for the Blades.

The price tag may be too steep for Newcastle’s taste. It would reportedly take £25m for Sarr and £20m for Dennis to pry them away from Vicarage Road. Watford would be more than happy to keep them around for their promotion push should acceptable bids not arrive.

Another secondary target is Marseille striker Bamba Dieng, who has been on and off the radar since January. News emerging from France is the 22-year-old has been frozen out at the Stade Velodrome due to excessive weight gain this summer. The report also claims Newcastle are no longer interested.

A player that has not hit our radar who could be a decent option is Inter Milan’s Andrea Pinamonti. Atalanta, our opponents last Friday, have a £15m plus add-ons offer on the table for the striker.

This morning Nottingham Forest have come in for the 23-year-old. Inter reportedly want around £18m for Pinamonti, who spent last season on loan with Empoli scoring 13 goals. He has just two years left on his contract and is an out-and-out striker.

There are decent options available that Newcastle can turn to later in the window. The focus right now is to add bonafide talents like James Maddison or Timo Werner on loan. The jury is still out on whether that proves successful.

    FPL update

Only 2 of the original 18 are left to register the code on H2H D3…

    chancel be a fine thing
    catchy in Norway

The late application from Gillmag has been processed and the code sent out by Neil.

If all join before the deadline, we will have 19 in D3, meaning each week one player will play against a dummy ID which will have been awarded the average FPL score for that week.

Why Leicester need to sell? Unless Rodgers and the players not on the same page, don’t think they are desperate to sell. They are tight on funds to get players in though.

I used to own a comic shop, so know a lot of the stories now being employed.
DC was always better, tougher, darker than marvel, then. So I’m disappointed in their rendering of stuff…trying to cater, too hard. Hope they wise up and do what they’re good at.
Altho’, I’d really love to see some 2000ad universe explored in tv, movies.
    Howay!

I don’t get the people saying forget Maddison and get Cornet and Dennis in. I dont doubt Cornet and Dennis improve us but they won’t take us to the ‘next level’. Maddison is a ‘purple’ coming into his prime and a £50m player any day

Personally, while there maybe some credence in the don’t want to be taken for mugs thought, I still think they don’t “go the extra mile” and are wanting staggered payments, due to having limited funds at the moment until we get some new sponsorship. Obviously I have no real insight into it all and is just an opinion.
I’m also wondering, as onmeedson said, why pif didn’t give the club a loan the same as our last owner instead of getting one from the bank.

I feel tgat they are trying out all options, dealing with all manner of ‘dealings’ and will exhaust this, then choose based on availability, player, attitude, price, esee of action, fitting all criteria.
That’s how it looks, to me.

I agree on that mate. I remember reading them as a kid and being a bit creeped out 😆

They have been disappointing in that respect that they have seemed to lost their way on to the big screen but have had some really good success’s so far.

Tyran, apparently Leicester need to sell to get the wages down. It’s the main reason they let Schmeichel go. They have high earners that are in the last year of contract too so need money to replace them, Soyuncu, Tielemans, Mendy, Perez, Bertrand.

i think the classic mike ashley trick is been used here show them that we tried to sign players but we never really did want to sign them anyway. Then they wont be angry because they saw we tried. At the end of the day an extra 20m is nothing to our owners it doesnt make since and we are well inside ffp rules

Just buy Maddison, wont have to spend another penny on a midfielder for a year or two. Bruno, Joe, Maddison, Willock, Anderson, Sean, Shelvey. 6 of those are here to stay.
If he is available and wants to come, just get him. Instantly make’s us top6 imo. Even if Wilson gets injured

I don’t understand the loan from a bank, when PIF clearly have bags of cash. It could all be external optics so other clubs start to see us as a normal club operating within a set financial envelope, as opposed to having a bottomless pit of cash. Once we can drive our commercial income up I’d expect to see some of it repaid in future years, so not anticipating it to be long term. When they build the new training facility that might be a longer term loan, repaid from commercial income. Suspect we’ll never get the answers but I don’t think the loan should concern us.

Firstly I know nothing and this is just kite flying from some of the endless reports in the media.
Local papers reported last year that there was about 200M available to spend over a 3 year period and this money was supplied from all the owners of the club on a pro rata basis and the pundits said if any extra funding were required it would mean that everyone including Staveley would need to put their hand in their pocket again.
By borrowing from a bank using future gate receipts as collateral it will avoid this scenario, a much less dramatic way than venture capitalists do.
Because of the structuring of the deals they must be relying on a big hike in sponsorship in the future to allow for further spending but I feel at the moment it is not only FFP rules but available funds that are the constraint
This may prove to a load of rubbish but I do feel Staveley does not want to put in more funds or reduce her share of the club at the moment.

Definitely something going on at Leicester. Half their team getting linked with other clubs and they’ve signed nobody thus far in the window.
Rodgers isn’t trying to keep Schmichael.
The Leicester owner’s wealth has gone down considerably.
They’ve always sold well so is Rodgers attempting a rebuild with the resources at his disposal? He could be the 1st casualty of the season!

    Mund,

Justice League wasn’t even that great, it’s only good when you compare it to the theatrical release which was appalling. It was a pure vanity project for Snyder.

He completely ruined Superman too, turned him into a petty tool.

The new Suicide Squad was brilliant though, and Peacemaker was nothing short of perfect for a comic book TV show.

Clint flick- you owned a comic shop , cool. I’m still into my graphics novels , some excellent ones out there, Ed Brubaker and my local writer Garth Ennis are my favourites. Good choice of books are any of the Garth Ennis, especially the war stuff. And Ed brubaker criminal omnibus.

Now if you’re also a techno head, then that’d be a mad coincidence.

Agreed with mund daredevil has been one of the best shows, not many other good ones. Punisher was good but hectic. Same with Jessica jones.

We simply changed banks, keeping the same arrangement..
