Newcastle Appear Unlikely To Reach Agreement For Maddison With Secondary Options Still Viable

Eddie Howe is still hopeful of a couple of attacking arrivals before the summer window slams shut. The sights are currently focused on James Maddison though there are other routes Newcastle can go down in their hunt for firepower upfront.

Newcastle are waiting to officially hear the fate of their second bid for James Maddison. Though it appears almost certain the Foxes will knock it back with Keith Downie’s revelation that it is closer to £40m than £50m.

Unless Newcastle break character and go beyond their valuation, it appears the playmaker may be yet another bridge too far this window. The owners have stuck to their guns and not caved for their priority attacking targets but so far come up empty-handed.

If the Maddison pursuit ends after two bids, the groundwork has been laid for Burnley’s Maxwel Cornet. The Ivorian has a release clause of £17.5m, though Newcastle have reportedly started negotiations on a structured deal worth slightly higher.

Watford duo Emmanuel Dennis and Ismaila Sarr are both available for the right price. The pair helped the Hornets down Sheffield United 1-0 last night, with Ciaran Clark making his debut for the Blades.

The price tag may be too steep for Newcastle’s taste. It would reportedly take £25m for Sarr and £20m for Dennis to pry them away from Vicarage Road. Watford would be more than happy to keep them around for their promotion push should acceptable bids not arrive.

Another secondary target is Marseille striker Bamba Dieng, who has been on and off the radar since January. News emerging from France is the 22-year-old has been frozen out at the Stade Velodrome due to excessive weight gain this summer. The report also claims Newcastle are no longer interested.

A player that has not hit our radar who could be a decent option is Inter Milan’s Andrea Pinamonti. Atalanta, our opponents last Friday, have a £15m plus add-ons offer on the table for the striker.

This morning Nottingham Forest have come in for the 23-year-old. Inter reportedly want around £18m for Pinamonti, who spent last season on loan with Empoli scoring 13 goals. He has just two years left on his contract and is an out-and-out striker.

There are decent options available that Newcastle can turn to later in the window. The focus right now is to add bonafide talents like James Maddison or Timo Werner on loan. The jury is still out on whether that proves successful.

Supercomputer? ah lad, sure that, along with most pundits, had us relegated last season until at least Feb/March. I wouldn’t get worked up over something like that

Yeh 2000ad is what got me into comics. The American stuff was more childish. Although the writing since dark knight returns and watchmen is why we see all this success. British writers , except frank millar who was awesome ,were the pioneers.

Daredevil will be appearing in “she hulk attorney at law”.
On nufc …..to me 45 mill or so for Maddison seems a bit lite …..Leicester will also add a premium as they’ll see us as a direct rival. We do seem to be going in fairly low for some of our targets and it seems to be the ones that are further down the list….we went strong for botman, guimareche and ekitike (and Carlos last window) presumably to make sure we were the only horse in the race seems like with our other targets we aren’t totally sold so are making bids that may or may not be accepted as they’re not first choice …..maybe a bit of smoke and mirrors who knows we just have to trust in the process.

The alternatives to Maddison do not excite me. They certainly won’t drive the club forward.

Seems pretty clear that Leicester need to sell someone and obviously we’ll be hoping we’re the ones to buy. It smells like trouble for them though, with Maddison having 2 years left on his contract and Tielemans and Schmeichel having just 1 year (not sure about others), selling a top quality player doesn’t exactly inspire the others to want to sign a new contract and stick around.

I still think we’ll get a young striker, sesko suits us but will he come is the question. We can ease him in.
As for maddison we always seem to get there in the end, I reckon we’ll get him

The next big investment for PIF will probably be into our Women’s Team . They will want them up in into the Women’s Premier League in the next few years and why not.
They have got to try to please supporters of all ages, gender , race and culture.

Lots of craziness in the Leicester camp by the looks of it, a player can force a move and Maddison doesn’t seem the player to sit around.

    TDS,

Aye pal, Leicester seem vulnerable. The Toon board can smell it and Maddison must be high up on Eddie’s wish list. Depends what their value threshold is for Maddison I suppose. Let’s see how far they’ll go to try and get him.
A couple of googles gives up a weekly wage of 110K so if we do get him he’ll be the highest earner.

A few people are jumping to conclusions about Leicester selling Schmeichel. Aye, it looks like he’s pretty much 99% gone to France now, leaving LCFC Shiite of a keeper, but that doesn’t automatically mean they’d want Dubs from us as part of a deal for Maddison. Maybe Rodgers doesn’t rate him or has his eye on a different keeper? Maybe Eddie doesn’t want to lose Dubs? Both are possibilities.

    Regarding Marvel and DC

When Disney bought Marvel and Lucasfilms the good thing about it was that more content was going to be made, the bad was that most of the content would suck.

They have had a few successes. The 2nd season of the Mandalorian was ok, and in relation to Marvel I actually think allot of their early films was enjoyable bar Thor 1 and 2.

The last couple of years everything they make has to go through a checklist to ensure that every politic aspect is being looked after.

The natural process of just creating a good story, forming a masterful plot and then casting whoever suits the roles best, has made way for the hiring both writers, actors and producers who ticks certain gender and race related boxes, and when the story is made, its done from the same principles of a team forming the story, making sure several boxes are ticked.

This hurts the story in itself, because a writer needs to create a story without being handcuffed for the creative freedom to make way for something special, and if you have just half a brain you will pick up on all the political messages these movies are now filled with. Hollywood in general are very much hit by this trend, but Disney are one of the worst in my opinion.

I dont know about you, but when I watch a marvel movie, I just want to watch the heroes I know from the comic books and get entertained with a good plot. If I am in the mood for something political or more of a drama touching those issues, I am fully able to find such a movie myself.

DC in my view, have inferior characters, bar the Batman universe, and their movies are just really bad. The exceptions are Nolans Batman trilogy which is masterful, as well as the recent Batman which is Decent. Several animated Batman movies are also a good watch, such as under the red hood.

NB. Sorry for the long post, especially to those not interested in the subject.

Leicester have plenty of good players as well as Maddison :
Tielemans, Barnes, Soyencu, Schmichael . All will command high fees and extremely good wages.
I think if we’d have had genuine interest in Cornet we’d have activated his release fee by now. Seems good value at £17.5 M and played with Bruno at Lyon. Surely they will have asked him about Cornet.?

Valle .. all true. The Disney political correctness money machine is in overdrive now.
It’ll take other movie studies producing some of the tko comics, vertigo or image comic stuff before we get anything decent.
Blade if done right would be a great movie but with all these constraints I think it’ll not be great.

TfB – if we do get him, he’ll also be the highest calibre PL performer in the squad, with the potential exception of Trippier. Bruno, Botman, and ASM have buckets of potential but Maddison is already playing at a very high level in the toughest league in the world and is a great age to still improve too. He’d warrant being the highest paid player in the squad I’d say.
