Eddie Howe has been assured that two new attackers will arrive on Tyneside before the window ends next month according to The Chronicle. High-level transfer talks have been convened this week.
Newcastle’s recruitment drive has been stuck in neutral after a promising start. The club completed three transfers prior to the pre-season but frustration has reigned since then.
Howe spoke about the window to Sky Sports on Tuesday and expressed Newcastle’s commitment to adding quality up front:
“It’s no secret we’ve been looking at a couple of attackers who could make a difference. Players with different profiles.
“We are still looking for one or two players that can make a difference for us. We won’t stop.”
The latest object of Newcastle’s desire, James Maddison, has been met with a familiar refrain as two bids were rejected this week. Newcastle and Leicester remain at least £10m apart in their valuation of the playmaker.
Without breaking character and bidding above their comfort level, Newcastle will most likely be forced to move onto other targets yet again. Who the sights will turn to next is anyone’s guess as the initial Maddison bid seemed to materialize out of nowhere.
There could be other unknown targets Newcastle are eyeing. While there is still plenty of time to add two players, the season will kick off on Saturday with the stated goal of the window – adding attackers – still to be completed.

At twenty one he has a big future ahead of him.
Let him have that future with us.

Arteta: “I had it once at Anfield. The game was going there and suddenly I could only see red shirts flying around, the game is passing all over me and I cannot react. And people think, ‘what is he doing’, and I am like, ‘I cannot do it, I cannot do it emotionally, physically I cannot cope’. Everything goes too fast and I only had that feeling in my career once, and it was at Anfield.”
Well, Newcastle reminded him that feeling. This time in the dugout, he had no answer.

Comment #14Well the season is nearly upon us with out the resounding signs of doom and gloom of the last decade and a half … time for some renewed faith and optimism if we can kick in from where we started January we should have enough for a top half finish and hoping for a good cup run – Forrest will be an unknown quantity but they should be bang up for it regardless playing at the Mecca St James park

I agree he’s young enough and has talent but he gives me the impression he’s a prick and I don’t think Eddie will want him upsetting the squad.
Let’s dream big, Maddison and Werner please. Ta

Comment #16It would have been better if we had our business done earlier. But we’re not used to signing players who are in demand. A learning curve no doubt. And we’ll get the rest in by deadline day. Hopefully not plan z’s as well.

Canny wait pal!
Proper excited and we’ve had a good preseason as well. The lads looked switched on and raring to go. We look an even better football side than when we finished last season with confidence that’s only came from Eddie and his team. We look a completely different outfit.

Comment #22Hudosn – Odoi may have the talent, but from reports, he’s not the kind of character who’d fit in with us, and perhaps his wages may be a stumbling block. Also, he has achilles issues (rupture in 2018, 2 months out last season) – that alone should be a red flag

Botman is the real deal mate. He will be known in the near future of being one of the best CB’s in the league. So calm and composed with a excellent pass on him short or long.
Pope or Dubs…?
I’d say you could flick a coin right now as I don’t actually have any idea who Howe will pick. Pope had a dodgy one against Bentica but redeemed himself since. I still think Pope is probably our best GK but not by much

Comment #26Apparently, (increase salt intake) Eddie’s been promised 2 x attacking players – good.
However, overall spend for 2022 has been set at around £200M – not so good.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but we’ve spent £25M – Wood, £35M – Bruno, £12M – Trippier, £12M Targett, £10M – Pope and £40M – Botman.
Total £134M
That leaves £66M to buy 2 x attacking players.
So, what do you believe, the 2 x player promise or the £200M target figure? It’s unlikely that both are true. 🙂

Comment #27The Pope vs Dubravka one is very close to call, Pope possibly is slightly better but both do have an error in them. Although most keepers do, Allison who everyone raves about made several clangers last season.
Botman for me starts, will need to adjust to the pace and Forest will certainly be a tough game but throw him in straight away.

Don’t want him to be injured but Everton currently have no strikers! Unless Rondon suddenly finds some form, assuming he’s still there.

Comment #31Nice to have positive selection headaches – we are crying. Out for another striker if Wilson or when Wilson gets injured we someone to come in and score goals … Borja would be a good jack up option if we could get home on loan with an option to buy and keep out spending down until we can get the right man at the right price

Comment #40Sesko looks like a big prospect…with a canny sized price tag so if we are to buy a striker,do we go zapata type, older, scored plenty with experience less money or sesko type, fairly unknown,no proven history as a goal scorer but believed to be the next “big” thing but with a canny big price tag?
